What a wonderful gift these weekly offerings from your heart are Rick. I feel very blessed to have connected with you & your reflections. Thank you for the generous gift of your time and wisdom
Thank you! These are such a help to me, in long recovery from long illness, always feeling behind in work & basic chores. It's hard to be calm vs hurried. Sitting in bathroom with door shut, on tub rim or toilet lid, window open to sycamore tree, reading Red Pine translations of Han Shan, is my brief refuge for now.
I realized about halfway through your talk that because I come from a traumatic background from birth, it is possible I am creating my own chaos internally simply because the familiar is comfortable. I have eliminated almost all of it from my external world. I have a very peaceful existence. Lately I feel very touchy, defensive, and angry. I don’t know why.
Developing a habit of ‘taking a long slow breath’ so that when stimulated I can calmly reach a state of calm from which a reply can arise rather than reacting! And then regretting.. is my advise to disinflame the amygdala which will eventually reduce the swelling as let go of those triggers and start to flow much more joyfully through life
I've been listening to and enjoying your channel for a couple years, even though I don't (or can't?) meditate and have been puzzled by the whole concept for years. The metaphors about riding horseback and surviving the flood finally made sense to me. I became a runner late in life (40s) and it took me a few years to understand that to run faster, you have to relax into it. Then I took up mountain biking a few years ago (mid-50s). A former pro rider and coach, who I'm sure practices Zen Buddhism, talks about riding tricky sections of trail with "soft vision." It helps immensely. Your talk provided a parallel metaphor about meditation that I finally could take in!
The overall tone and wisdom of this talk inspires hope in me. I cannot thank you enough for your sharing your insights in such a kind and thoughtful way.
You describe my mind so perfectly! A busy hornets nest scanning and planning. I cherish awareness and intention with a big dose of self compassion as I observe this spinning vortex in my skull. ❤😂
Pls do a video about suppressing emotions and thoughts because I suffer with it and even when trying to be in the moment it’s to fast I feel the resistance in the body

Panic responses as freeze or thrash about ineffectively would be counterproductive.
