The problem I see is that within the last 4-5 years, fast food prices have skyrocketed regardless if there were supply chain issues or not. At the same time many fast food places still paid their employees the minimum wage and food quality has gone down. I'm talking about an order of fries with the package purposely 3/4 full, or McDonald's switch from a cardboard package for medium and large fries, to a paper package and now the medium size is the same as a small. If you order a McFlurry, you have to double check before you leave or else you'll find out later they only filled the sides and top, but hollowed out the middle. Cutting corners, very slow service, and rude customer service is really becoming common place which was such a rarity in the 80s. 90s, and 2000s. Now everyone wants the pay places like In N Out, Five Guys, or Chik Fil A give which is ridiculously unfair. The food quality and customer service at those 3 blows the rest out of the water. At those 3, you're more likely to feel like a welcome customer and better quality food compared to other fast food places whom you have to holler at them just for some napkins or a straw!
Who can afford to blow money for unhealthy fast food everyday, the best customers will be the employees giving their money right back.If you meet a girl and she goes to McDonald's everyday, its not going to be good in the future. Go the the grocery store across the road and SAVE, if you dont know how to cook learn.

So tell me how that helps?? An extra quarter a week??? Really??
Also, companies pay CEOs a lot because it’s very hard to find a good CEO. So they compete hard to get one of the few good candidates. If you have a bad CEO, it affects everyone and thousands of people can lose their jobs, so be careful what you wish for in economics.
Rich people in upper management aren't just going to willingly lose money from this when they can just cut jobs, move out of state with their operations, and pass on the remaining operation's cost to customers with higher prices until it's no longer profitable. Then, they will close and sell off their last stores to be cannabilized by others for material/equipment to use in other states. So prices are jumping AGAIN, after they have already risen over the last few years from greedflation. Stores are closing. Mass statewide layoffs have already begun. Congratulations on the unintended consequences caused by forcing overreaching financial policies on private businesses.
Look as if people without experience wanted to find a job then fast food is out the question as low pay retail workers, janitors or custodian still available for minimum wage.

@timg2973 Each priced at over $10, McDonald's sells hundreds of meals per hour. If they sell two meals in 5 minutes a workers wage is paid for. Look at how any cars are in the drive through next time, and also inside the restaurant and consider how little it costs to make a meal. They can definitely afford to pay their workers that much already! I think that $100,000 a year is very conservative.

I support their right to price themselves straight out of a job. What a dumb idea to demand $20 per hour for a low skilled teenage entry level position.
Teenagers are at school all day when these places are open. Minimum wage has priced people out of living indoors!
The funny thing is this increase cut their hours and they are now making $300 less than before.

These stооpid fast-food workers got their $20 per hour, but businesses don't have to guarantee them forty hours per week. They may work six hours per day in split shifts (lunch service, two hours off, then dinner service) and end up with the same amount of money.
It's not a problem of the way. It's a problem of your governor spending. If he spent his money better this wouldn't be an issue. I'm in Tennessee and I'll make a lot less than that and I can live.

It’s just greed. These corporations can afford to pay their workers. They just don’t want to. That’s a damn shame. And no one goes to college to make $20 per hour. That’s insane to even say or think.
Geed, how so cuz the ceo makes $20 million? That's less than $500 per store a year. If you divide that up to all employees, it's just over $10. A year.
The solution is simple, quit eating at large fast food chains. 0 hours at 20/hr is the proper pay for the completely unskilled yet entitled.
If you want to make a livable wage then work a livable wage job.

Good luck with that have you seen how many businesses have closed up lately due to crime the economy ect .
Thats not a thing.
Every job should pay a livable wage, if you don't think retail and food industry workers should be making a livable wage then try to live without those workers. They were deemed pretty essential during the pandemic while athletes who get paid millions had to sit it out.
All jobs should pay a livable wage ! Why should any person that works 8-10 hrs a day not expect that? we expect people to work for Pennies? College is a scam. Manufacturing jobs were sent over seas many years ago. So all jobs should be decent paying jobs even for low skill workers. It just makes no sense to have people work and the expect them not to be able to pay their rent. It’s laughable and stupid at the same time.

Forcing businesses to pay more to employees….what do they think would happened?? 😂😂
Businesses don't pay higher taxes or higher wages. The CUSTOMER always does - without exception. Folks just don't get basic economics. As the employer I give you more paper (fiat money) and just raise prices, (inflation). Simple concept but never thought through. 'nuf said....
I stopped eating fast crap a decade ago. It's not food it's crap.
They increase to $20 per hour then the the price of food will be increased too. $20 is too much to pay , the employers don’t make profit . They have paid lots of worker compensation in CA . Company will move out of Ca
Horrible idea. If you want to make more money, how about moving up in your industry. Better yourself. Be a manager, a supervisor, find a better job with your experience
We don't care. $25/hr minimum wage by next year. Or close your fast-food joint.
Enjoy being replaced by bunch of ipads!🤣
So the 58,000$ per hour CEO is not the problem?
do you understand how franchises work? the CEO of McDonald's has no say in what employees make in a Franchise. if you owned 1 McDonald's and after paying staff, rent, taxes fees say you make $100,000 how much of that are you going to give up for your employees? Know this for every employee you give a dollar raise to will reduce your pay by $3,500 that includes the SUDO and FUDO tax along with workman's comp increases. you have 20 to 30 staff. choose wisely now.

They supplied you with higher wages, so the demand for higher paid low-skilled workers just decreased.
FAst food work was never meant to be a career. Now, that the job market is so bad in the USA, working in fast food is now going to become a career. A low skilled job that requires no further post secondary education is hard to justify paying somone $40 K per year.
Fast food and retail jobs can pay their workers a living wage. Just ask In n out and Costco employees. These companies just don't want to. They'd rather have that money come from their customers. Those people that go to school for their careers should also be getting paid more. The most common type of theft in this country is wage theft and it's not even close

Comparing family-owned Christian premium burger place In-N-Out, probably the most successful per-store burger chain Earth, to McDonalds was not a very good comparison, but the Costco one doesn’t even make any sense at all.
