Great video. I'm planning on replacing the standard air filter and box for an oversized intake pipe and cone filter for my TT. Thanks for the detailed and clear instructions. Hi. I Have a 1999 MK1 225. I've started with this mod. I've noticed an additional pipe running from the air filter box. Tried to look it up looks like it's the auxiliary air pump hose. I didn't see it on your video. What should I do with it . Love the vids an passion. Many thanks.
Alpha Omega hey, yeah you can buy an air filter from ram air and other manufactures that goes over the end of those. My model doesn’t come with that hence why it’s not in my video. Like this one www.ebay.co.uk/itm/272707147316
@@TheParrottBros That's great I just didn't know what to do with it. My TT is quite old 1999. Thankyou for the reply. Great vids keep em coming You got another subscriber.

Thanks for thé video. Would it be a good idea to place the air filter in a box and feed it with cold air from the original tube located under the wing?
Going to fit my Forge TIP for my K03s when the weather gets better. Got the Ramair already with a forge DV008 and it sounds like a steam train haha Amazing video as always, keep these TT videos up!
It makes you want to go faster than noise doesn’t it haha. The tip you will notice a mass improvement on the acceleration it just feels like it wants to go more. From memory when I did mine the K03/03’s is a bit more fiddly and does take a bit longer so give yourself plenty of time when you do it. Thanks for watching :)
Lee Rose a little yes but that’s purely because I drove harder as it sounds better when you nail it 😂. It anything should help as it makes airflow better thus less work 😉
thank you for the video. Can I ask you, is there a specific order where the PCV valve and the DV have to come? because on mine, the previous owner installer the PCV valce on the right side instead of on the left. And is the new Turbo intake pipe firm? because I can easily squeeze mine. thank you very much!
Do you mean the puck ( pressure reg valve) as long as they are in yhe turbo intake pipe shouldn’t matter too much as it’s just recycling the air back into there. Should be relatively firm, if it’s too soft it could collapse under boost. Is it stock or after market?
@@TheParrottBros it's an after market, but I suspect it's from Aliexpress, as the previous owner had a lot of Aliexpress tubing in it... I know, because I had to replace every :)
I note you didn’t install the heat shield, I have noticed that trying to install the heat shield is a nightmare as you end up cutting the pipe which is fraught with danger. Any tips?
I’m yet to install one, not brought one yet and focusing on other jobs but I will at some point when I come to tidy the bay up Cutting wise is easy enough, work out how much you need to cut off then put a jubilee clip there and tighten it up enough to hold the silicone. Then get a sharp Stanley blade and using the jubilee clip as a straight edge follow it all the way round
Darren Swift I made a bracket using a straight bit of metal and bent both ends, one end attached to maf, other end attached to one of the air box mounting points
I’ve heard good things about the badger 5 tip certainly a popular choice. A filter, tip and down pipe will make a massive improvement on flow, and make it a lot more responsive.
New to the channel just got a 02 225 roadster totally standard.. only 55k on the clock.. gonna stage 1 map it with ram air and tip.. have you got links to where you got the pipe please fella...also would a front mount make that much difference with the cone and map combined ..cheers and good vids
Scott Dennis hey buddy, the most popular tip is badger5.co.uk/induction/v3-tip-red_esp-0097/5 this has been proven on the dyno time and time again. A front mount will certainly help as with the side mount coolers it runs out of cool air before the turbo does, I noticed a massive difference when I fitted mine. Well worth it in my Opinion
Hey man so I’ve been looking for a turbo inlet pipe for my mk1 tt 225 but I’m in the USA and I haven’t been able to find one that fits for some reason. I’ve looked on a few sites and a lot of them tell me that the inlet pipe they sell only fits up to the 2002 models and I’m a bit lost on where to find one now for my car. And I’m not sure if the ones in the UK would fit. Any suggestions on where to look or which ones would fit? Thanks for taking the time to read this
Ricky Gomez hey buddy, so I had this exact chat with Badger 5 the other day who makes the oversized turbo intake pipes. He said that it will fit but you may need to trim the bit that goes on to the turbo down so it’s the width of the clip and nothing else. If you give bill a message he will be happy to talk to You and he will post to USA. You want to look at the v3 option. Hope this helps. Any other issues give me a shout. badger5.co.uk/induction/v3-tip-red_esp-0097/5
Did the B5 tip on mine at the weekend, you still on the original turbo, fins looked fine on mine but there was a clean bit where oil was coming in through the breather and it looked like the fins had cleaned it...
I wouldnt worry too much, a little bit of oil is normal. If your seeing smoke often out the exhaust or your having to top up regular then there might be an issue, if no dont worry too much
@@Trig0r There is no specific mark really, ive spoken to people who have done 200k with original turbos, i know someone with a Qs who has got turbo issues at 50k. i wouldn't worry until you are getting symptoms, if your worried then check back in a couple months
Hi. Noob here. What are my options if I want to upgrade/improve the air flow rate of my turbo intake pipe but keep the standard airbox (i'm not a fan of an open cone looks wise)? Is there a pipe available that is only slightly bigger than stock which doesn't have a corrugated inside?
You can buy a silicone equivalent of a stock one which would do a little bit but to be honest your best bet is the oversized one. You can keep stock air box but tip will need some trimming
Hmm i would have a look on badger 5 and see if he sells one for the 180, i think only certain engine codes can run a bigger tip as some have water pipes that fowl the route
Badger 5 sell the best on the market big turbo intake pipe, and yes it will meet up with any 80mm filter providing it fits in the space ( not too massive )
Alroght, im not sure if your car has one but my 180 has a secondary air injection pipe coming from the original air box, but i couldnt see it in your engine bay. I only ask as i put a bit of netting over mine and now i have a P4011 code for reduced flow for the SAI, if you did have that pipe what did you do with it? Cheers
If you search SAI delete for 1.8t online you will see what is required to remove it from your car, Only certain models have the Secondary air pump ( the Bam engine doesnt ) Thanks
sjl plomberie hey buddy, they do make an intake for the 180, it differs from the 225 as turbo inlet is a different size. Find your engine code and look on eBay for turbo intake pipe with that three letter engine code
@@TheParrottBros I have the 180hp turbo, can I do that? And if yes, do I have to tune it or remap how the air filter works? Because I only see people talking about the audi tt 20v turbo and the ramair site only shows the Normal performance air filter,
Fitted a ram air with heat shield on my 225 and when I come off the gas it sounds like it dumps up twice...is that normal or have I got a leak or problem?
That could well be normal, usually it’s the n249 letting off unneeded pressure and then all the boost pressure going too. If your car pulls well and is strong all the way up the revs you should be fine
Can you actually feel any difference with this intake pipe? I know it has a bigger cross section and the inside of it is smoother which is better...but the you have a given cross section at the turbo intake so, can you really get more air to the turbo?:)
Yes is the short answer, I put the tip and cone filter on at the same time and instantly noticed it’s more responsive and feels stronger on boost like it’s getting more air. Here is what I found on line which explains why ( its been dyno proven many times in 1.8t platform as well :) ) Increasing the pipe diameter causes the pressure and velocity of the gas to decrease. ... Changes to engine geometry and specifications can produce better torque, power, volumetric efficiency and more. The technique known as wave tuning can lead to better engine torque and power.
The great thing about the Maf sensor, is that it measures the density of the air being used by the engine. Simple data logging shows that you get more air over the rev range, as well as earlier onset. Easily measured, and easily proven
I'm wondering as I've just got mine, not a fan of open filters in the engine bay,i've odereded an pipercross filter to keep it with the stock housing so I can still feed it with some cold air,for stage 1 will it be a massive difference from your kit to stock one,in real world use? or will the silicone aftermarket hose fit the stock housing ?
Quite a few people fit the oversized tip's to a stock air box and it will still increase the amount of airflow to the engine over the stock pipe, the only downside with the stock airbox is you are limited to the spout in the wings diameter for airflow. Not horrendous on stock however when tuning is something most tunes would recommend changing out. You may lose some of the added bonus of the larger tip however still an upgrade
Big fan of your vids and just got a TT 1.8T BAM last month! Excited to start work on it. I was wondering if you need a remap with your new intake or is it okay to run as is? Cheers, Laurence.
Laurence Shotliff firstly thank you! Secondly yes you can run this without a map as the maf meters the air it intakes so don’t worry about it, a map will enhance it though 😎
I have a Seat Leon 1M -01 20vt4 (180hp, but stage 1 at 215hp) that i'm about to fit a Creation Motorsport oversized tip onto that allows for the bigger 225hp MAF and bigger BSR airfilter, hoping for some more gains since the small JR filter i use now might restrict the airflow more than the original boxed-up filter did. I don't know how much differs between the 180hp engines to the 225hp ones, but they say that there is a coolant pipe running close to the inlet of the turbo that might need to be deformed or slightly moved to fit an oversized tip, did you have to do this? I got the oversized tip for about 80£ (new in packaging but never used) and MAF + BSR filter with heatshield for 25£ (Used).
The other things to consider is will you need to change the maf sensor inside the housing to the 70mm one as will throw your Ecu out. If you have a k03s turbo the inlet size may be different and the k04 225 Tip won’t fit and will Slide off
@@TheParrottBros I still got both MAF's because I've heard that the one for the AUQ might have 4 pins while the BAM (and probably other 225hp engines as well) have 5 pins, don't know if it's true but I will experiment and see what combination works best. Thanks for the heads up, I've already made sure that I bought the correct oversized tip. This one should have the fitting dimensions for the K03s turbo but also have an oversized dimension fitting towards the MAF to be able to fit the bigger MAF housing.
Markus Johansson so yeah from what I’ve heard people say you have to force the water pipe over slightly but defiantly check with others first as I’ve no personal experience on doing it
Twxii That would be a good reason for replacing it ha ha, yes I bought the cone filter separately, you can get them most places, if you have 225 you will need a filter with a 80 mm opening
@@TheParrottBros You mentioned installing the heat shield at a later date, do you know where you can get just the heat shield? I've only really been seeing them included with the Ramair cone filter.
Nice video! I was like "how does he have so much space to remove it?" until i realized your brake master cylinder is on the right side of the car..... I'm struggeling to get mine of because my LHD 225 got the cylinder in the way...
@@TheParrottBros awesome!! Now I have a lot of confidence installing my intake. However, I do know that I will need a tune whenever I install a downpipe. Looking forward to stage 2.
@@TheParrottBrosyou know, the common problem on the TTs where the original plastic screw clips would crack and break off, leaving all the cosmetic plastic covers loose and generally looking like crap. It looks like you've replaced all yours with metal screws and stuff

The turbo intake pipes are divided between two options the 180 and 225bhp models. Engine specific codes cover things like if the car has a wide band ecu etc
Hi. i have a tt mk1 225 hp, and the exhaust manifold almost get red for getting hot. İs it normal? How can i fix it? No one of mechanics could fix is in my city. Thanks for help.
The exhaust manifold / turbo does get very hot but if it is glowing cherry red it could be a restriction in the exhaust/ restricted catalytic converter, it could be a lean air fuel mixture, or retarded ignition timing all of the above should cause a loss of power or fuel economy.
The main problem with the cone filter is the intake air temps, hotter air is less dense and doesn't allow this upgrade to fully benefit, the stock filter housing pulls air from the inner fender which is cold air not from inside the engine bay which has been heated by the radiator, engine, air-conditioning condenser and so on
I agree, I had many Vtecs and a cold air intake was worth it ie went from the throttle body to lower front bumper but on the TT I’ve simply updated the panel filter. Unless you fabricated a cold air intake pipe into the inner wing not sure either.
the air goes through a red hot turbo don't think a cone filter makes that much difference to inlet temps, you have an intercooler to cool down the inlet air anyway
Do you reckon this TIP is smaller than the badger5? Want to put a tip in mine but the badger5 wont fit on LHD, as theres a brake booster, brake cylinder and fluid reservoir near the tip on LHD. Subscribed.
Thanks for subscribing :) size wise they are very similar looking at pictures. Have a look at the forge tip, that’s a lot slimmer at the bottom should fit better.
Gplus sucks big it’s slimmer Towards the end, still larger at filter end and bigger and Stronger than stock. But yes not as big but the difference will be 1/2 bhp
Cant wait for the upload on boost problems, mine boost fine for a while but after a bit of a kicking it goes into limp mode,if I turn car of and back on again it's fine again,iv changed the n75 valve but still the same😂
A friend of mine is actually suffering from the same issues at present, do you have any way of checking the fault codes? VCDS or a obd reader? I will try and cover as much as possible, a good percentage of these now are suffering from simple boost issues.
That most likely means it's a vacuum or pressure leak in the system because the ECM doesn't read it . I recommend performing a pressure test with smoke. I have a 2001 TT 225bhp with an AMU engine that I have built almost entirely from scratch and this is a common problem to sort out. I have over $1600.00 american dollars tied up in FORGE hoses, FORGE Waste Gate Valve, FORGE 008 Divertor Valve, and much, much more but I still have the same problem you're struggling with. An Audi TT Mk1 225bhp is not an automotive project for amateurs because it requires a lot of time, research, tools, strong thin hands, flexible body, skinny arms, and a lot of disposable money to eliminate all fault codes (if you haven't figured that out already). I have been working on my project for over 15 months and I'm still not done with all the niggly bits that drive you nuts! Never give up and you'll get it!
@@geofflockley1176 yeah mine turned out to be down to a stupid blow off valve I had recently installed, removed and replaced with original,so back to normal now.
I have a 2003 Seat Toledo 20VT (AUQ) its the BAM's small brother I guess lol, it is completely stock, well I have a catback exhaust. My plan is to get done a clever stage 1, get a SFS Supersized TIP (70mm) the Forge 008 DV and replace the stock and tired N75 for a new N75J from Audi, what do you think of this setup. Next year I would do the 3" downpipe and some other mods for a stage 2 remap. I am not really sure about the TIP size, according to the website the A15H/A for my engine code is 70mm, I guess 80mm wouldnt fit? What size is the Forge TIP I cant find info about it? It was my other candidate but people say SFS is way better than Forge.
So there’s quite a few things to consider with this, the AUQ I believe is a 180 hp, if this is the case you run a K03 style turbo which has a small inlet than a 225 k04 would so they are different. You will have a 70mm mass air flow sensor, the 225 has a 80mm. There is a few options for tuning, you can get a hybrid turbo, or you can do a k04 conversion if you can get all the bits you need from a breaker and just fit a front mount intercooler. Prob work out cheaper. If you want to keep it simple, go for a oversized tip, ( Sfs or badger 5 as proven best gains) fmic & downpipe. This will give you the best flow and there for greater gains for less spend. After this you start spending a pretty penny, also speak to a tuning company before committing to purchasing too much as they may advise you. Hope this helps
@@TheParrottBros wow nice response, yeah it's the 180HP with k03s turbo, I'd like to keep my lil turbo until it dies lol. I know the roof is around 240HP but I am happy with that for the moment. The oem pipe bottlenecks about 6 inches or 145mm further from the turbo therefore the latency is slightly worse

Do you mean the puck ( pressure reg valve) as long as they are in yhe turbo intake pipe shouldn’t matter too much as it’s just recycling the air back into there.
Should be relatively firm, if it’s too soft it could collapse under boost. Is it stock or after market?

I’m yet to install one, not brought one yet and focusing on other jobs but I will at some point when I come to tidy the bay up
Cutting wise is easy enough, work out how much you need to cut off then put a jubilee clip there and tighten it up enough to hold the silicone. Then get a sharp Stanley blade and using the jubilee clip as a straight edge follow it all the way round
The Parrott Bro’s thank you for the tip, did you secure the cone in by any other means or just leave it connected to the MAF and collar?

Put the ram air filter on mine. Was going to get a badger five tip as top reviews. Also done 3"down pipe no cat.
I’ve heard good things about the badger 5 tip certainly a popular choice. A filter, tip and down pipe will make a massive improvement on flow, and make it a lot more responsive.

You can buy a silicone equivalent of a stock one which would do a little bit but to be honest your best bet is the oversized one. You can keep stock air box but tip will need some trimming
@@TheParrottBros Thanks man. Gonna go for v3 badger5 tip and stock airbox with proram ramair air filter 😁

Hi, can i install this on my mk1 3.2 v6 or is it just for the 225. Thanks
The intake pipe is designed for a turbo car I’m afraid. I’m sure there is an intake system for a 3.2 but not this buddy
Does this filter only works for the 20v turbo or does it work with 5v to?
The air filter will work with any Maf that size, the turbo intake pipe is turbo specific
BWS TT Mr TT! Thanks for that knowledge, I guess that’s why they’re so popular, easy to fit good gains relatively low cost
Great video man! I am over here in the US and completely tore apart the tip forgot the orientation k04 this video helped!
Appreciate the comment, glad it helped, heard it’s a lot harder to fit a tip on lhd, thanks for watching.
@@TheParrottBros The Wakbox mod on the stock box addresses that. It's worth getting a 2nd hand airbox in case the mod somehow goes wrong!
If you have a k03s turbo the inlet size may be different and the k04 225 Tip won’t fit and will

Hi. i have a tt mk1 225 hp, and the exhaust manifold almost get red for getting hot.

A friend of mine is actually suffering from the same issues at present, do you have any way of checking the fault codes? VCDS or a obd reader? I will try and cover as much as possible, a good percentage of these now are suffering from simple boost issues.
@@TheParrottBros I know what you mean, it's not throwing any fault codes up,its so annoying 😆
stuart winstanley always the way, when you go to sort it there is no fault to test against. The worst kind
