This is a timeless, under-appreciated classic! It still resonates within me because "the vibrations I'm receiving say hold on brother, you be strong!" To all my brothers and sisters out there struggling with anything life brings, whether it's the loss of a job, a relationship gone bad, a medical situation, or whatever pressing or distressing matter, please feel my vibration and my energy supporting you right now. I'm challenging you to tap that strength within and keep moving in the direction of your dreams and your goals! There are too many people you have to be a blessing to! Press on!
I loved Gil Scott Heron's music in my 20s, but now that I'm in my late 50s, the impact seems even larger. No one can make me laugh, cry, or think so fully as does Gil. I am so saddened by his passing, yet so uplifted by his musical legacy. Why was he not hailed as a genius by everyone in his lifetime, and why is he not now? I listen to *everything,* but so little rises to this level, and what does often fails to move me as Gil could. I'm so sad that he could never beat his addictions, that he lost his chops, that he didn't have the best that life could offer. And yet, I am so grateful that his life has so enhanced mine. I've played The Revolution Will Not Be Televised to young men, and tried to explain why there would be no rap without it, but it seemed to fall on deaf ears. Am I just old, now? Gil Scott Heron, I miss you, beyond words. But at least I have what you left. Thank you, and RIP with the knowledge of a job well done.
I couldn't have said it better. He should have been the greatest instead of a well kept secret. I saw him live a few months before he died. Hearing Pieces of a Man broke me, I was in tears.
You're so spot on, my friend, don't doubt yourself. We "old ones", who got to experience the incredible artistry of Gil Scott-Heron, whether in-person, &/or on record, know just how deeply his music, words, & soul educated, inspired, soothed, & uplifted us. That anyone today can deny, nor not get his powerful & extensive body of work he left us with, speaks to just how lost we as a nation have become. For just as Marvin's "What's Going On" is, sadly, just as relevant today as nearly 50 years ago, to too, with Gil's masterpieces. He certainly helped open my eyes, musically, politically, socially, & spiritually, and we can now only hope & pray, for that "Lovely Day", he sings so beautifully about...

I forgot how good this song is. I haven't heard it since I packed up my vinyl records. It always makes me feel good. I saw Gil Scott Heron when he opened for Earth Wind and Fire in 1974 in Pittsburgh. It was the first concert I had ever been to. I didn't know who he was at the time, but I have never forgotten him since. He was a genius and a truly gifted artist. He is greatly under appreciated and truly missed.
I too saw Gil on Saturday Night Live and I was converted. Great poet/musician/singer. Saw him twice live. I hope he realized how much he was appreciated
