- This week we're up on the hill of Montmartre, as we put the focus on a little-known, yet defining chapter of French history: the Paris Commune. Walking around the picturesque area today, there’s little trace of the chaotic and deadly scenes that played out here just 150 years ago: a brutal civil war that came hot on the heels of a deadly Prussian siege. We look back at the Paris Commune and explore its legacy today. We also hear from historian Ludivine Bantigny.

@@handelconsenlevinsen6061 No I just mean that all revolutions are quite libertarians, but when authoritarian regimes birth from them, they try to make this side forgotten (or it would give ideas to their people)

It's somewhat misleading to claim that the Paris commune was purely a Parisian idea. Don't forget that many of the new ideas related to egalitarianism and liberty at the time were introduced to those living in Paris through the writings of colonialists who interacted with indigenous communities in the western hemisphere. There was indeed a cultural exchange of critique and practices that differed from the norms prevalent in France at that time. This in a way could have been a partial influence, but of course, poor living conditions and other countries played some role as well. Great video overall!
