God bless you for posting this up. My sister passed away 2 weeks ago and this was her favorite song to play on the piano. I promise my other sisters that I'll learn to play this song so there's always someone playing this at home.
actually fur elise is a very complex piece (for beginners specially). What we all know and what we all play is only, maybe 10-20% (only the easy portion) of what the whole piece actually is. That's what makes us think that's it's easy (because only the initial part of the song is and most people think that that's the entire piece) but to be able to play the entire song isn't an easy task. Also, I think hardly anybody learns to play the entire piece.
@@biswajit07 hands up here. 🖐️ I did, but then I'm old and had very traditional classical piano lessons as a child, no half measures. If you wanted to play Für Elise you learnt the whole piece! You're right it definitely gets complicated and you really need to understand what I call semi-quavers but Lisa called some fraction or other which I can't remember 😂... Sixteenth notes possibly? Yes a minim is a half note, a crotchet is a quarter note, a quaver is an eighth note... The only problem I have with that numbering system is that it makes a semi-breve the whole note... Which as you can tell by its old name, it isn't because there is a note called a breve. Admittedly you rarely see it but can still find it in some choral works so it's good to know of its existence. It looks like your "whole note" but has two bars or brackets on each of its sides.
What you’re doing is teaching those who can’t afford to learn this instrument with a live teacher. Those who were able to learn even 50% of what you taught online, I’m sure they made themselves feel good and motivated with what they could achieve in life. You’re an angel! We are blessed to have you on this planet 🌎
Their version of the song is also very helpful. I have 2005, 2011, and a recent version of the song by the author in multiple books. I favor the Pianote version for simplicity and not overdoing the repetitiveness. Nice dynamics and rolls too. If it’s first time learning this is good one to do. Also, does she go to other planets? Lol.
This song makes me feel hopeful. Although there are periods in the song that are sad it mirrors how our life is sometimes sad sometimes happy but we're here and we have to deal with whatever just like a river. I love you Lisa you're the best.
To be honest, as a complete beginner, this song doesn't really feel beginner-ish, especially when my left hand doesn't have a mind of its own. But I'm grinding through the bars for a week now and learned half of the song. It's sooooo rewarding when you get to put it together and actually hear yourself playing it. Thanks so much for putting this together online @Pianote !
I play piano for a year now.People always told me that I should go to the music school, but I never wanted.I saw how my friends hate music schools and didin't like what teachers forced them to play.I maybe don't know every note, and all about music teory but I play and I enjoy it.I love what I play, the way I learn it, and I know "story' behind every piece I learn.I don't play anything because someone told me I must, but because I love it.Freedom and creativity are most important in music i thing and Pianote is really helpfull for me🥰
@Andjela you are so right. My 9year old son shares your opinion on this. He followed 6 lessons, absolutely hated it and now that he has quit the lessons, he´s the most happy person 😄 teaching himself the songs that he likes, not the one the "teacher" likes
I'm playing piano for a little bit more than one year, started teaching myself, in March 2021 started taking lessons, what I like, we do theory and other stuff, but the most things we play, are pieces that I choose. I think that makes a lot of difference. I think taking lessons is great, in this way!
When I was 9, my grandparents 50th anniversary was coming up, and I learnt this song so fast from you which paid off with success. So thank you for this wonderful song bring back memories of a lifetime!!!
Everytime I hear River Flows in You, it just takes me away to somewhere serene and calm. This song made me get back on the piano just 2mos ago after 20+ yrs of not playing with a music sheet. And I’ve been waiting for Teacher Lisa’s tutorial on this. My challenge here is on my right finger #4, I can hardly control it and tends to go stiff that it goes out of timing at the roll part. So I tried using #3 finger but another challenge with placement comes up. Whew! How do I practice with finger #4 control? I’m still glad I get to play it and flow like a river! Thanks Lisa!
Simply a happy , energetic and encouraging teacher . I have your book … love it … my piano playing has improved tremendously in the last 3 months … I’m an adult going back to piano .. I’m loving it 🎹
I bought a keyboard last year in july. Never played it before, always wanted to learn. Didnt start playing it with any seriousness untill december due to my mom dying. This song helped me cope all the feelings that comes with losing her, so i wanted it to be my first that i learned. I can say with your help i have accomplished that goal. Thank you so much. You are an incredible teacher, cheers!
This piece makes me happy every time I hear simply because of how it was composed. There is so much passion and emotion coming through with every note that it feels like a journey through life. The beginning is simple and slow as if it's trying to figure out what it's going to do. The same motif is followed through the majority of the piece but more structured and fluent, up until it begins to slow down again preparing to end. With the idea of the movement of life, much like a river, if I had to choose one moment to play or have this piece played, it would absolutely have to be my daughter's high school graduation. The significance of that milestone, to me, fits so well with the overall tone of the music.
thank u very much for sharing this tutorial i just bought my new keyboard yesterday and this is the first song that i learn, thank youuu🙏 greetings from Indonesia 🇮🇩
I love that you tell your story of learning the piece. I think it depends on how you play the piece, what mood you create with the speed, pauses and dynamics. If you feel cheerful when you play it that's how it will sound. If you're feeling reflective you'll probably play in a more measured way. It's a great piece for varying the ambience you create with the performance. Never heard it before so it was a great experience to learn it with you. I have a friend who I've been helping to learn to play and she's into Einoudi... Yeah, can't spell his name or remember his first name either, but this piece reminds me of his style.
No matter how much I listen to this beautiful piece... I hear so much Beethoven yet in a very modern, extremely serene way.! Such a great way to say thank you ❤
Also Lisa is so not a time waster. She goes right in breaks it down and teaches in a way like she's confident you'll get it while playing... And softly reminds us, practice will bring it together. Break it down into sections is the easiest way to play difficult pieces
I am currently learning to play this song after 25 years of not playing the piano since my 7 years of piano lessons as a kid. I’m glad you did a tutorial on this song. I totally agree with you about making mistakes while playing a piece is a journey to learning music and new songs. Also the flaws is what makes a piece interesting, different, and your own. Wish I learned that as a kid. Anyways- playing this pieces is so satisfying and brings so much joy. It really does “flow in you” like a river as you play. The fast parts, the slow parts, and all the ups and down parts is very pleasing to play throughout the piece. Thanks again for the video.
"Two notes at the same time!" I love your enthusiasm and personality as you're instructing on this beautiful piece. I'm working through it and it's got me practicing and playing it obsessively. Thank you for the video!

My son showed me this piece just last week. I had never heard it before and I knew I had to play it! It is beautiful and to me, it is both somber at times, and serene. I just got the music, so thank you for your video on how to play it. And this is my first time viewing one of your videos-I have subscribed!!
Thank you for your encouragement!! I love your energy and the way you teach, it gives me a better understanding of this piece ❤️❤️❤️ This song makes me feel peaceful
I didn't know this song until one day I received it in an email from a friend. After listening to it the first time, I was hooked. I have learned to play it since then, despite being a beginner. I now enjoy playing it on the piano using Lisa's version, both for pleasure and technical work. Well done Lisa . Many thanks.
Hi there? Do you happen to be a ham radio operator (KT2B)? I am (KB2IOF)…so that’s why I ask. If you enjoy Yiruma’s music, you may like mine as well. I’d like to invite you to try some of the music on my channel (I hope you’ll subscribe). The links to download each piece are there as well. If you have any questions, I’d be glad to help you. Hope to hear from you…have a great night!
Learning this song has helped me a lot over the past year. Last January our tenancy was terminated and we (family of 5) had to find a new home. A week before the purchase agreement for the new house was signed, the rest of my family was surprised by the great flood in Germany. Fortunately my family only had a lot of property damage, but unfortunately there were also deaths among our friends. 2 weeks later my father died of cancer... If all goes well, we will move into our new home at the beginning of the 2022. It will probably take even more time before the rest of the family can return to their houses... So that was a year of setbacks and getting up again, of moments that flew by and days that didn't want to end. This song always felt right, because it leaves room for you to interpret it yourself and to process all emotions you have. Greetings from Germany
I cannot thank you enough for this tutorial and all of your videos... I'm 2.5 weeks into piano and thanks to your help I am making my way thru this song.... which I absolutely love ❤. Learned it 1st on guitar... and now to be able to learn it on piano truly makes my heart sing. Thank you!!!! ☺️🙏.
This piece evokes so much emotional nostalgia within me for a beautiful time in the past spent with someone who is no longer here ❤ happy but sad at the same time. Brings tears to my eyes, especially when listening to Yiruma play it himself. So happy to be learning this piece. Thank you for the tutorial
Thank you! I have been stuck at Bar 5 and having problems with the timing, so much so that I've put it aside to learn a different song. I'm gonna try again. Love this tutorial!
Started today, let's see how long it will take to learn it to play decently. I just started practicing piano few days ago. Let's do it together, who is with me :D
I just started learning piano with this as my first tutorial. 3 months later, and now I can play this from start to finish. Great instruction, and very easy to learn with this style.
Hi Lisa, Since a few weeks I am learning to play piano and I follow all your instructions, tips, advice etc especially those for beginners, and I enjoy it very much ! Every day I practice in the evening at least half an hour to 1 hour. I always start with practacing the basics, some chords and every other day the note scales. Now I am trying to learn to play "The river flows in you" from Yiruma. Thank you so much for all your effort to make the videos. I like the way you teach. Greetings from The Netherlands !
I forgot to comment this, but with your energetic and enthusiastic way of teaching and help. I somehow got to learn this beautiful piece around (June) for my relatives' birthday, within just 10 days in total. And I was extremely touched, grateful, and motivated by your words and impressive way of teaching 🙏💗 !!
at first I always messed up the keys and trying to give up but when I skipped to the last part of your vid I feel encourage and try to do it again and now I feel comfortable and keep practicing.

Lisa, another very good practice.😊 I love employing the nuances, rubato, staccato, crescendos. I shall continue practicing piano, along with Tenor Sax.😊
This is the best YT tutorial for this piece. Quick and to the point with minimal mistakes. I tried following another tutorial and he made mistakes 25-30% of the time making it very irritating trying to learn. He really should redo his videos with less mistakes. Anyway, I think it's good you were learning this piece and demonstrating it slowly. Focusing on your fingering helped me. I disagree with you about learning the music perfectly. This is such a well known piece that your audience will immediately know if you play a wrong note. 😄 It's more fun for me to play it well. I found this piece was easier to learn but I've been learning classical pieces lately which are much harder so in contrast it was easier.
This song always makes me feel a little melancholy. When I'm happy or sad and stressed out, I come back to this soundtrack and close my eyes to let go and just listen. I'm a beginner. So, even if I don't know solfege, I want to play this masterpiece.
You are so talented and was lovely, I let it play till I fell asleep at night. It reminded me of sitting by a river and the water running over the pebbles, and a bird swoops down to try and get a fish on the dramatic notes...
Dear Lisa, first thank you for the entire free sheet. This is the only complete free one I found from RUclips channel. Second, I really love your tutoring. It is really helpful to understand the rhythm and figures from both hands. I want to challenge myself to learn a new piece. Last, I have really loved this piece since my older son played when he was young age. He played faster and now I know I can play slower still pretty. This gorgeous piece made me feel peaceful!
I'm my favourite piece and I so want to learn this. It's in my portfolio and I'm level 1 atm. So taking it slow. Thank you for making piano my new. passion
As someone brand new to piano , I thought so too at first…but I found reducing the speed to .75 and looping to be very helpful!! (Hover near the time in the corner & click on the chapter you’re on, then click the arrows on the right to loop that chapter. click on the gear symbol & then playback speed to adjust). You probably know all of that, but it might really help someone else out there before they throw in the towel on this song. 🙃
At first i gave up trying to play this song, i couldn’t put it together and i was frustrated. As you go through the song tho, you’ll notice a pattern and notice how simple it is. don’t give up, keep trying.

You made me sad
learning to play this song is my new bucket list item....wish me luck
How is it going?
How is it going?
‘River Flows in You’ by Yiruma has nearly become the ‘Für Elise’ of the 21st century.
Great words, I like it!!!
It’s everywhere and I’m not even tired of it :p
Yes it's very reminiscent of Für Elise, so glad someone else thought that too!
Nicely said.

Very helpful for guitar. With a few adjustments, teaches us how the song is constructed, clearer than most guitar tutorials.

Wow! Was not expecting this. I have had this song as this year's target. This is sooo helpful 😭 thanks a lot Lisa.
Thank you! I have been stuck at Bar 5 and having problems with the timing, so much so that I've put it aside to learn a different song. I'm gonna try again. Love this tutorial!
Imma put this as a timestamp, now is day 4 and I'm only at bar 16😂❤
Timestamping day #1 & I’m 4 hours in to the first 6 measures so far!! 😅
I really like the way she teaches, very natural and encouraging too !!!

10:43 - THIS PART IS SO FUN!!! [SCREAMS]😂😂😂
Thank you, the pacing was difficult for me; but your demos made it far simpler. 🎹
Started today, let's see how long it will take to learn it to play decently. I just started practicing piano few days ago. Let's do it together, who is with me :D
How is it going?

I just started learning piano with this as my first tutorial. 3 months later, and now I can play this from start to finish.
Great instruction, and very easy to learn with this style.
I love you,and your teachings as well.thank God you are there for us music lovers.I am learning a lot ❤️😍🎶🎶🎶
Thank you for your encouraging words. You are a very good teacher..
I learned this song in a simplified version with different notes. Time to relearn it with this better version.
😃 😀Hi! If you like musical arrangements, I think you could even appreciate some piano adaptations, executed by me, of some pieces, you can find them going into this channel, with which I’m just writing this comment. :)If you decide to click on it, I hope you will like the sound and the visual aesthetic!💚
@@SofiaMariaVona cool visual, you need to post some more videos you only have 3 up there
@@mugg1841 😀😄💚💜Yes I will do! Thank you for your consideration!
Lisa, another very good practice.😊 I love employing the nuances, rubato, staccato, crescendos. I shall continue practicing piano, along with Tenor Sax.😊
this song makes me feel emotional and happy at the same time!
you are an amazing pianist and pianist teacher !
but i am struggling to play it.
you got this!!

Makes me feel free and happy
This was immensely helpful. I especially like your enthusiasm for the piece and how you break it down into phrases that are easy to master. Thank you!
You are so talented and was lovely, I let it play till I fell asleep at night. It reminded me of sitting by a river and the water running over the pebbles, and a bird swoops down to try and get a fish on the dramatic notes...
I cant believe I know how to play this music because of this video. It’s my first piano song ever!
I love her voice so much, it’s so relaxing
Dear Lisa, first thank you for the entire free sheet. This is the only complete free one I found from RUclips channel. Second, I really love your tutoring. It is really helpful to understand the rhythm and figures from both hands. I want to challenge myself to learn a new piece. Last, I have really loved this piece since my older son played when he was young age. He played faster and now I know I can play slower still pretty. This gorgeous piece made me feel peaceful!
I love how she's so sweet and understanding!! :)
Exquisitely beautiful 💕
Thank you so much my Korean friend actually taught me some of it but then she went back to Korea but Thank you so much
C’est splendide ! Félicitations 🙏👍
You teach very well! I've been playing piano for about 7 months, and your teaching has helped me alot. Kepp it up.
amazing lesson! is there sheet music?

I'm my favourite piece and I so want to learn this. It's in my portfolio and I'm level 1 atm. So taking it slow. Thank you for making piano my new. passion
You are too fast😵💫
As someone brand new to piano , I thought so too at first…but I found reducing the speed to .75 and looping to be very helpful!!
(Hover near the time in the corner & click on the chapter you’re on, then click the arrows on the right to loop that chapter. click on the gear symbol & then playback speed to adjust).
You probably know all of that, but it might really help someone else out there before they throw in the towel on this song. 🙃
😭😭 thankyou miss it just made me more emotional and excited to learn this song 🥺❤️
God bless her, angel on Earth
Everytime i sit on my keyboard to learn this song ,her voice n the music makes me sleepy ....its just so relaxing....
Thank you for this tutorial! I learned two songs from you! Perfect and river flows on you
Thank you!You just earned yourself a subscriber!
The song is sweet, lovely, flowing like a river, and comforting. And thank you for teaching me how to play this Song. Love it.
So beautiful this song, feel peace and calm making me fall asleep. Thank you
At first i gave up trying to play this song, i couldn’t put it together and i was frustrated. As you go through the song tho, you’ll notice a pattern and notice how simple it is. don’t give up, keep trying.
Wow! I love your honest comment on that you’re still learning the piece. Thanks for the video 👍❤️
