I think a neat thing to try for this is a function that helps the smaller players. Perhaps something that 'dilutes' the boost effect the longer your train is would work in this situation, allowing smaller trains to catch up to the field more easily.

I love how rainbow and Monochrome are absolutely blowing it in this one. They never really manage to get very long, and the 3 times they do they're immediately stopped or taken over.
There's an interesting aspect here of how something intended as a defense can actually be a detriment to the user, and a benefit to the other players. Placing obstacles instead of boosting is already a punishment to the teams with a small train that end up using it, they don't need their enemies getting a bigger train. It would be much more appropriate for trains to be destroyed when hitting an obstacle. That actually benefits the team that placed the obstacle by reducing enemy point gain, rather than being a point boost for an enemy. Edit: added a few words to the first sentence about obstacles being bad for the user.
I'd congratulate Cyan on finishing on the podium for a change, but then I remember that she blew the lead at 7:41 and wound up being her own worst enemy.

Let’s face it: if red didn’t activate his obstacle before navi touched him at 7:07, he would have had no chance of winning this. He got extremely lucky.
I love the idea in general, but I do find that more than other races, this one has a bit of a negative feedback loop: Colors that get overtaken have a chance to have their powerup "go to waste" if their marble slots in while they're dead (esp. in the second half of the game with longer trains), which in turn makes them on average slower & increases chances to get overtaken again. This struck me as a bit of a flow that was less present in other games of yours, where comeback potential was often significant, where here, you need some very lucky timing to even get out of the "spawn & get overtaken soon after"-cycle to score any relevant amount of points.
Yea, that's super annoying. Especially paired with the long wait just to get a new boost. The wait annoyed me the most tbh. You can't do anything to affect your score like 90% of the time!
When the track expands. you can use round objects stick on the railway so trains behind it will stuck for a while and a train will touch it and becomes the same colour with the previous train behind it.
