    Hard to find words to try to pun down what is so splendid about this.
    I think the supreme and rare quality is the ability to play with fleet lightness, but that ignores mercurial [though always stylish] flexibility of pulse and within the phrase, which is just as much part of it. The consider the fundamental dexterity. And the least definable, is the pure natural musicianship he shows seemingly on every recording he chose to make.
    I cannot imagine any living pianist approaching this quality of playing in Chopin ...

    Fine decrescendos in the Prelude. Featherweight liquidity in the stylish Waltz, changes at the end like a painter putting his signature in the corner.
