- This is a video that will show you how to accurately identify any 1955-1959 Chevy Truck from short bed to long bed, Stepside to Fleetside, Half-ton to 2-ton. Suburbans and Carryalls will be covered in The 1955-1959 GMC Truck Identification Guide I am uploading next.

Glad to hear it! Comments like yours help more than you know Archie. Thanks Fer Watchin'. -Rick
As you know, ive been a big fan of CTR since way back in the chicken farm days. I started watching these videos because i myself thru the yrs have rescued about every old truck i could get my hands on. Sorry to say most have been scraped but i still enjoy the hunt and thrill i still get from landing some old car or truck. I think some people try thier damnedest to criticize or condem anyone for anything they dont agree with. So i would just like to say LETS ALL LIVE AND LET LIVE, TRY TO BE KIND TO ONE ANOTHER. and HAVING LOVE FOR THE LORD IS A GOOD THING.
Amen
Wise words Frank. Thank you.
Thank you for the videos very much enjoyed GOD IS GOOD
You are so welcome...Yes HE is! -Rick
I've never heard the term blue chip truck before. I'm already learning and the video is just starting!
Glad it was helpful! We will go into the Blue Chip GMC Trucks with great detail in CTR-236. Thanks Fer Watchin'. -Rick
And that Fleet option was a GMC thing, not a Chevy.
I'm a Mopar guy and so was most of my family therefore I never had the different Chevy options and emblems explained to me. Very informative. Thanks. Keep God and animals in the videos.
I am in awe - I have spent 20 months so far restoring my 57 half toner and I would say I have a passion for it. What you have presented it so valuable- that you sir..!
From Holt Missouri, Years ago I had a 1959 Chevy short bed, don't remember the model but it had a 283 V8 and a converted 3 on the tree to a backward floor shift. Been watching your show for just over a year and enjoying it very much.
Thank you Richard. We appreciate your positive input. -Rick
You did a good job Rick, you do know your trucks for sure, give a big hug to Lou I miss his picking on you on things, god bless him

I'm going to have to watch this again. Lots of good information!!! Yes I totally enjoyed it!!! I have a 57 1 ton with the 9 foot bed. 6 cyl and 4 speed. I bought it in 1972 and used it to move mobile homes and made lots of money with it. In 77 I took off the 9ft bed and built a welding bed on it and used it to haul my 200 amp Lincoln welding machine and related tools. I love that old truck!!!!
Right-on...Love hearing stories like this. These old trucks have a way of getting into your heart. Thanks Fer Watchin' Danny. -Rick
To put it simply, its a matter of choice. I watch your videos because I enjoy them. If people are lookin for a reason to be offended, they will find one. We cant waist our time worrying about them. Have a great day and have fun!

Thanks for the great video! Another fender variation for 55-57 trucks was the 8100 fenders, which in addition to the side bulge, had an extra ~2” flare.

Coming soon! Thanks Fer Watchin'. -Rick
When you presented the correct placements of the side emblems for the 1957 chevy, in which direction they should face, I got nervous. I said to myself let me check the pictures of my truck thats on my phone.
Because right now I am out of town! And sure enough my emblems are on backwards Lol
The shop that installed them did it over 5 years ago! I guess no one is the wiser. I have never been corrected until today Lol. Thankyou for the lesson. I'm not going to correct it, but if someone does correct me, I will admit fault, then thank him/ her, then tell them, I did it on purpose, because I like the look! Lol!! ; ) Nice channel!! and " Good Day To You Sir"
As long as you like it, that's what's important. I guess a lot of people are going to get twisted when they see my 55 GMC sitting on a lifted Ford King Ranch Chassis. Thank you for watching and commenting.
I learned something new today! Really looking forward to the GMC version! Thank you!
Awesome! Thank you! I'll try to get the GMC video out Sunday.
Thanks for a great video, very informative. I have several 1958 Chev and GMC trucks so I appreciated your candid input. I will stay tuned and give a thumbs up.
Tom
Thank you Tom!
Thank you Rick and keep up the good work. Folks like you that make this world go round thanks again.
This was a most interesting video I like learning the different changes they made. Thanks Rick.
Glad you enjoyed it Douglas! Thanks Fer Watchin'. -Rick
Your property is like Old Truck Paradise! You should give tours and charge a few bucks! Better than Disney World LOL...Thank you for all the info, I have a 49 3100, this video taught me ALOT!
Somehow I HAVE wound up giving tours...haha. Thanks Paul.
Very informative video Rick. Though I never intend to own one, I love the history and knowledge you share. I love your channels content, and what you and Jamie have done with the property. While I believe everyone should be free to voice their opinion, even net trolls....., if someone doesn't like it, then don't watch. I hope you don't change a thing, except post more!!!! Thanks CTR and God Bless.
Glad you like them! God Bless you as well.
Very good information on your video sir, I own a 1957 chevy 3600 4x4 I learned a few things about these trucks, thank you and God bless you!
looking forward to seeing you're barn getting along enough to use one side for projects 😀
That's the plan!
Rick this is a awesome source of information. I am just getting into the Task Force trucks and this guide is super helpful. I know this is a couple years old but still priceless.
Great to hear! Thank you.
Awesome information Rick especially for Truck enthusiasts
Glad to be able to do something helpful. Thank you Dennis.
Amen my friend and annabel is so sweet a little star. Always love watching her

Glad to help Steve. Thanks Fer Watchin'. -Rick
Wow what a wealth of knowledge you have sir, thanks I really enjoyed your video. The 55 3100 is still my favourite I think.
Glad you enjoyed it Stephen and Thanks for watching.
I'm a big Mopar guy but I do enjoy your videos and I like the trucks you pick up
Very glad I found this one say it loud for those in the back brother 🙌 🙏🏾 👍
💯
Good ID Guide for the Chevy's. Everyone should note that the Cameo beds are Composite/Fiberglass sides. (SMC (Sheet Molding Compound) actually, like Corvettes of that era)
Rick, just one other difference to note for the 1957 Chevrolet trucks was the front fenders. The front grille, being one-year only, used different mounting holes in the front fenders for the grille. I don't know where the different mounting holes were located, but every time I've seen it noted, the 1957 grille won't fit the 1955-1956 front fenders. As to bed lengths, the short bed was 72", the next bigger bed was 89". The long bed was 97" and you could carry full sheets of plywood with the tailgate closed. Of course, the big daddy was the Longhorn 9' bed. I've got a 1957 3200 without the spare tire option, small window cab, that I built into my own modernized version of the Napco, using a 1994 Dodge Ram 1500 4wd chassis. Of course, the fender emblems throw folks off too, since they came from a 1959 Apache 3100, but they came with the truck, and I honestly like the look. Thanks for all the info Rick. I learned a few new things too.
Wow just found this one glad I did !!!! Awesome just awesome !!!!! Say hi to papa Lou mom family and everyone for me brother and little sister
Great video, thanks Rick and good to hear that you are selling some of your trucks, you got a lot of projects, it is a lot for one person to look after.
It sure is. Thanks Fer Watchin' Dom. -Rick
Rick, thanks for taking the time to go over this with us. I am sure many of us will refer back to it for future reference. Looking forward to the GMC version of this. Yeah, we all know your bias towards the GMCs lol. If only the dashes wear reversed Id be right there with ya. The "pie" shaped speedometer of the Chevys puts them above just about any other truck on the planet. Ever. In my option.
Glad it was helpful!
That Chevy speedo is my favorite too.
Thank you for sharing your knowledge of the Chevrolet and GMC trucks. Your videos are very informative, and I know you didn't go into alot of detail as you said on the video. I'm interested in the history of the 336 CI Pontiac motors that were installed in the GMCs. Thanx Jjay
I will try to get a 55-59 GMC Version of this video out soon. Thanks for watching.
Hi Rick, I was just heading to go to sleep and I just saw your notification...
I have to see this video.
Rick, you're showing me that maybe I can get through the bad stuff.
Ah haaaa.. The differences between 55, 56, 57, 58 & 59!!!Very interesting.
I enjoyed this.
Something I noticed about the '55 Chevy Cameo; the wheel covers seem very similar to the '55 Chevy Belair wheel covers...
Be well......
Hope you enjoy....you're first today! Thanks Fer Watchin'. -Rick
@@ClassicTruckRescue yes Rick, I enjoyed this a lot!!
I wish people today could learn to be more positive...
Be well, I gotta turn in now..1:17 A.M. here in the North East.
God bless, OH! I HOPE LOU IS ALRIGHT...
Wow! You really have it down and know your stuff Brother...
TY for the tour.
Thank you and thanks for taking the time to watch.
I loved this video, I don’t know much about 50’s trucks. I’m a 60’s girl.
Well thank you for taking the time to watch Victoria!
Very interesting! Thanks all the effort, knowledge and experience you share with us and for making and uploading this side-by-side comparison of the ‘55 to ‘59 Chevy trucks. From your comments at the beginning of the video, I assume you’ve received quite a lot of nasty comments. I for one appreciate your calm and benign bearing and your kind words regarding animals. I hope you get as much joy out 0f making your videos, as I and surely many other get from watching them. Keep ‘em coming. By the way, I’m watching and subscribed from Germany.
The nasty comments come with the channel...every channel has them, but they in no way compare to the positivity of interacting with so many encouraging people who share the same interests. Also, the advice we have received form so many people covering so many different subjects have proved to be very valuable and time saving. Thanks for coming aboard.
I will probably never get to see these American trucks/cars in person so thanks to CTR for your vijao.
God bless CTR from Yorkshire England🙏.
@Phild....Our pleasure! Thanks Fer Watchin' and God Bless you as well.. -Rick
Look forward to watching your videos so educating brightens up my my day keep them coming and god bless you and best wishes from me incthe 🇬🇧 pps give the truckmaster general a hug from me ❤
Thanks so much...hugs delivered Ian.
I love this! Just got a '57 3200 with the 235 and 3 on the tree. I am in love.
Congratulations!
While waiting on your next video I fell back on watching science fiction and then a classic truck, a Chevy Longhorn pops up. That’s a biggun.
Rick, you just keep uploading everything! I don't really care if its a story about a crack you found in your pot seat. (Only joking but you get where I'm going) I love hearing about everything that's happening at the ctr from Lou (especially Lou) to the shop build the trucks/cars and your bike, not enough there in my opinion but I'm a biker. Annabella the river the whole lot. Keep it coming my man, and thanks for sharing your life's adventures with us. Best wishes from God's own country, Yorkshire in the United Kingdom.
Rick, what an informative video. We have a 59 that we use as a mobile bar in Brisbane Australia. Have subscribed to your channel.
Thank you so much for subscribing.
I been a subscriber since you first got homer the tow truck. You keep doing what your doing. Jamie and yourself are awesome👍
Another tidbit about 55-57s: in addition to the location difference (above/below the fender line) between the 55 and 56 front fender emblems is the background color behind the 'Chevrolet' name. In 55 the background was white, vs black for 56. Also the 57 front fender is one-year-only as there is unique flat spot and hole at the front where the grill mounts to the fenders so it can accept the 57-only grille.
I have agree with you on those two points Tom. These are the kind of things I was hoping people would mention in the comments. I had a LOT of ground to cover in this video, but I appreciate accurate, additional input such as this. Thank you, -Rick
Pretty cool video brother I learned a lot! Thanks
Glad you enjoyed it...Thanks Fer Watchin Chris. -Rick

I know they're not the most desired years but the 58 and 59 just look like they mean business, love em
They have actually become very popular. I didn't care much for the 4-headlight trucks when I was Younger, but I really like them now.
Thanks for the history lesson!
You bet! Thanks Fer Watchin' Mike. -Rick

Peace and Chicken Grease?......I like it!
A VERY informative video. Now I know the differences between, say, a 55 and a 56 just by the fender emblems. By The Way, NAPCO was located in Indianapolis, IN where I live. Keep up the great videos, Rick.

Home Plant was GM Truck and Bus Pontiac Michigan, South Blvd. on South side of Pontiac. In 1988 I worked in that plant just short of 3 months, On the front clip: because of the closing of Pontiac Motor Plant on the North side of Pontiac MI.
Good point. Also, the vin number on all 1955-59 Chevy trucks contains a letter that indicates which plant it was assembled in. (A-Atlanta GA, B-Baltimore MD, F-Flint MI, J-Janesville WI, K-Kansas City MO, L-Los Angeles CA, N-Norwood OH, O-Oakland CA, S-St. Louis MO, T-Tarrytown NY)
Both Pontiac Motor Division and GMC Truck and Bus Plants are gone now. I worked For Pontiac Motor Division for 25 years then when the plant closed I went to Saturn In Spring Hill TN. Retired in 1997 with 32 years working for GM. First year I worked in the Foundry in the core room cleaning cores. Then transferred to finial finish plant and loaded cars on tri-level rail cars for the next 6 years, we had 4 tri-levels on track 18 and, 2 tri-levels on track 19. We loaded 12 tri-levels in 8 hours and 18 tri-levels in 11.5 hours. I got tired of the Ice and snow dripping on me while tying them down in the winter and got a transfer back inside to paint repair. Tri-levels are all covered now with sheet metal and are enclosed.
