@nobodynothing282 I think it's more apt to say that *Ao* is evil. Kelemvor tried to change things and was basically bludgeoned into obedience by him and the other gods. Jergal also predates the Wall. After a bleak existence with the promise of a bleaker eternity, he broke up his portfolio and gave it to the Dead Three; Myrkul just made the Wall after he became god of the dead. In a way, you could lay blame for the Wall's continued existence on *every* god, even the good-aligned ones like Tyr and Lathander. The Wall seems to be a 'necessary evil' by their standards. Myrkul made it, but the other Powers seem to be fine with it existing. The only one I think could be argued to be truly good in this situation is Ilmater. Kelemvor 'severed' Kaelyn because of her zealous desire to bring down the wall, but Ilmater seemed to welcome her despite her goal. I think he wants the Wall gone but can't act against it himself, so he grants his strength to Kaelyn in his stead.
@nobodynothing282 You can't destroy the wall in game, at most you can reclaim own soul from it. Even if you end up with master the curse ending (which pretty much requires you to kick few puppies to get that ending) you don't bring down the wall as Kelemvor kicks you out. Then you essentially travel through faerun consuming souls left and right, ending making sure you essentially became power hungry and vengeful (even if you still maintained good alignment). You do in fact eventually end up fighting gods in epilogue as gods even team up against you. You do menage kill/consume some gods but eventually was pushed back by gods and ended up retreating with your further fate left uknown.
The writing here is so good, the only thing I would compare it to is the conversation between Alyosha and Father Zosima in The Brothers Karamazov. I once heard Planescape Torment referred to as "interactive literature", and that's exactly right for this game as well. Absolute masterpiece, a work of art. Also: don't underestimate what the soundtrack is doing here. It's almost as good as the writing.
Pity you didn't have higher wisdom/intelligence, you get the dialogue where you reveal that the creation of the spirit-eater, was not just for Myrkul's vengeance and sick amusement, but a means by which he could maintain a tenuous grip on existance for a possible return to life/divinity. He even praises you for figuring it out. Which makes eating his smug god ass, all that much more fun!
im playing it again now, but havent gone through in years. charisma might yield some interesting results as well. my build (what i am going towards) will be a 10 sorcerer/10 eldrich knight/10 dragon disciple, i vaguely remember when i played that build before and it was pretty broken. charisma is a really good stat in 3.5, whereas in 2nd ed. it was pretty much junk (on pc games). dual-wielding two-handed weapons was pretty fun, as i recall i made a really good scythe (x4 crit is the highest possible in the rule set, make it 'keen' and take the feat that changes crit level and it is a 17-20 crit, i.e. 20%) and used some good two-handed sword; when you have that many buffs between all the casters, monkey-grip/two-weapon style work well together. i like rouge/fighter builds too, use magic device is an awesome skill, and sneak attack is really good, especially coupled with warrior BAB and hitpoints, and the extra feats dont hurt.
One of the best written pieces of dialogue in all videogames, I'd say. And the execution is awesome. Because of course the defeated God of Death and Decay would be a colossal rotting skeleton floating in lsd mist and musing about JUSTICE, FATE and IRONY. 15/10
Eh, I couldn't hate Myrkul. He reminded me too much of Terry Pratchet's Grim-Reaper (Especially his sarcasm and wit). Like if you walked in on him at his office and he had little patience (less than he does already) for personal grievances and philosophy set against the laws that govern reality as you know it.
You sorta have it right but a few things which I think make this even cooler. Myrkul is actually a god that is no longer worshipped and thus has died - in DnD gods die if they have no worshippers. Which is why you're standing on his actual corpse as it floats through the astral plane which is basically where gods go to die. He is just so old that his religion and worship had faded away into obscurity he didn't go out withg a bang but a whimper - left to drift forever in the astra until he himself has dissolved into nothing just like those in the wall
One of the best parts of the game, to me. The concept of that place is so cool- walking on the bones of a near-dead god. The soundtrack is so eerie too- thanks for uploading it!

I played this game as an evil character and it was still an powerful experience. Murkyl is so smug when you threaten to devour him. I had One of Many with me and was surprised for that small dialogue. :: Dark One, you must allow me to devour the broken god! It would make the Many supremely powerful! :: "Ah.. I thought I recalled the scent of judgments passed. Does this creature think that it can finally achieve revenge by supping on my spirit? Devour my spirit and my consciousness will only fade for a time. This creatures very existence glorifies my name... by every action, you will both grant me life anew." "Myrkul is mine to devour. You will regret your decision :: "Enjoy your feast, then... and enjoy the hatred of your pet as well. You've deprived your monster of the thing it wanted the most, and it will not forget." And devouring Murkyl or not leads to so many scenarios. With Murkyl soul, what you can do to Founder is so messed up. It is amazing.
@@ScaryCareBear If you let One of Many devour Myrkul, Myrkul takes over and it is the hardest boss fight in the game (you need to fight him alone). Also if you have One of Many in your party, it laughs at the dove from the shadows. You can ask Kaelyn your "animal nickname", OoM says: "speak the name of the scavenger - a vulture or jackal, anything that gains strength from feeding on the dead... it is a compliment I give you, for in scraping the ashes of the dead, you granted us life" Best one is when you get Kaelyn devoted, and you lie about being honored by her devotion. Really disappointed the sequence of the true purpose of the Curse wasn't included here. One of my favorite moments. Really solidifies that the KC is different from any other that either suffered the Curse, or held the Blade.
I finished this game today and it was one of the best gaming experiences eva! I got to this part last night thinking "ok, I go through portal, check new area and continue tomorrow" What you know, with this and Founder I quickly spend couple hours or so. Truly amazing. Thankfully I have save files for every important convo, so I can quickly reload earlier save and enjoy these moments.
Heh, its easier to pick, which are not. This part, Founder, mask fragment dreams, Okku spirit army battle, everything related to companions, first two Araman encounters and climax ofc. Need to play this as evil to truly appreciate all these choices this game gives.
The machinations of Myrkul in NWN 2: MotB paid fruit, as now Myrkul is reborn as a greater deity in 5 edition of Forgotten Realms! Same thing happened to Bhaal! He is also reborn in 5e due to his Bhaalspawn schemes.
My first playthrough of Baldur's Gate 3 was in co-op. The first time our characters had that dream, I immediately said, "I've been here before. This is the astral plane, and that's a dead god." The similarities between this plane's depiction in these two games can't be a coincidence. EDIT: Also, later: "Oh, hey, it's Myrkul! Did I ever tell you about that time I ate him? Slurped him right up like a piece of spaghetti? Guess that wasn't canon!"
It's not a coincidance inteed, since the game developpers of these two games simply followed the description of the Astral Plane within the official books, there literally are pictures of it in DnD books after all. Depictions of the exact same thing based on the exact same descriptions and pictures will always have similarities.
Best in this story - opportinity end of suffer of akachi by consuming him and became anti-god, a living hunger of wall, a walking crime of gods. Living rebbelion to "law" of universe, what can destroy setted rule between gods and mans. Sadly but game think what it is evil choise.
7:55 Ha, that is the ONLY thing the universe bends to - or more specifically will. If a "whim" is backed up by enough will then there is nothing in all the planes that can stop it. Anyone who doesnt believe it should go and play Planescape: Torment.
Myrkul is a chilling villain, amazingly voiced. But he should be more cavalier about being put to rest. As we learned from his return to divinity, in 5th Edition, can death itself ever truly die?
@@paulpoumet773 The faith generated by people's fear of the spirit eater curse is what is sustaining him; if you have a high enough Wisdom check he will tell you this himself instead of what he says here 12:33
The wall of the faithless was why I always sided with Ember in Pathfinder WotR. Sure, different properties, different rules. But very similar, selfish, and downright hypocritical characterizations of Gods. Only Kelemvor seemed to try and create a solution for the countless dead baby or fetus souls on that wall who could not possibly comprehend faith in the way we would. And Ao and the others of the so-called good-aligned Gods wouldn't have him tear it down or redirect faithless souls to his plain because it would be interfering with another God's work. Namely, Myrkul's. At least Withers (Jergal) seems to take a liking to Kelemvor's approach, what with taking care of Arabella after her parents die and her powers awaken. I wonder what Ketheric would say to Akachi if they ever met depending on how WotC canonize the Neverwinter stuff.
This casts a heavy shadow on BG3's showing of Gods, especially the dead three. Larian should have just stuck with Bane, called the game "Larian's DND game!" and went with it. Then there wouldn't be games from ~20 years a go that deliver similar but much better in this regard.

The OC is excellent! The problem is I don't have much time to play games anymore. I also have bitter memories about some repetitive-filler quests, such as the Watch/Thieves questline. MoTB never felt like it had any fillers in it, and the interesting story continued progressing.
@@ScaryCareBear The problem I had with the OC is it can drag in some parts and I tend to stop playing. its been so long since I went through both OC and MotB.
*Shit starts happening in Faerun. Myrkul: Definitely not me. Everyone else is at fault here. I grew to like him and his troll ways. Even in BG3 he was the most sensible of the dead 3 and actually helped his chosen in ways that no other did. Spoiler* He rid of cancerous Shar from Ketheric's life and gave him his daughter back even though he knew she would throw a wrench in his plans. Because he knew Ketheric loved her more than any power he might possess but alas, he chose Ketheric anyway. Sure Ketheric's cult became as cancerous as any other while ruining his own life and everyone else's but you can see there is some sympathy in Myrkul that none of the other 2 possess.

I wonder if its skull is the one the Emperor resides in in Baldur’s Gate 3…
It is! :D
Myrkul has some good words.
7:55 Ha, that is the ONLY thing the universe bends to - or more specifically will. If a "whim" is backed up by enough will then there is nothing in all the planes that can stop it. Anyone who doesnt believe it should go and play Planescape: Torment.
His voice is charming... Looks like I need to build a temple for the Lord of Bones...
TOP STORY GAMES EVER MADE
Sound track sounds like sone deep cuts Pink Floyd, or Deep Purple.
Lol! Now that you say it..
Myrkul is a chilling villain, amazingly voiced. But he should be more cavalier about being put to rest.
As we learned from his return to divinity, in 5th Edition, can death itself ever truly die?
What if the resurrected Myrkul is none other than the Kalacha, who chose to devour Myrkul soul, absorbing his essence and his will.

Myrkul's voice sounds shockingly similar to a certain Transformer.
Myrkul did not roast Okku the Bear
Probably knew that Okku wouldn't give a shit xD
I thought babies went to the topmost layer of the Seven Heavens.
This casts a heavy shadow on BG3's showing of Gods, especially the dead three.
Larian should have just stuck with Bane, called the game "Larian's DND game!" and went with it. Then there wouldn't be games from ~20 years a go that deliver similar but much better in this regard.
Well, boss from act 2 is good. Voice acting on same level as nwn.
@@VITAS874 Writing on the same level as Reddit posts, though. "Oh dear"

I wander if we will get to see him in baldur gate 3, LS did say that the main plot will involve the dead 3
I really hope so!
Not sure if he'll be as devious as this, though. This game is non-canon on the Forgotten Realms lore, right?
@@budakbaongsiah don't need to canon, just need this kind of voice acting, and a deviles line, back in the novels he was the mastermind behind the hole story.
Well... wonder no more
I really wanna do MOTB again, but I feel like I'll have to do the OC again before starting it. :(
+Yoad Michael You should anyways :D The OC in my opinion is good too ^^
The OC is excellent!
@@Darkwizzrobe yeah it can a bit in parts. I feel like the original Neverwinter nights also suffers from that half way through the game.
I never got this far, my pc broke down before I could get to this point, and then when I got it running again I had lost my original cd's.. I live in SEA I had to buy nwn2 in London coz they don't sell nwn2 here in that point in time. I got my hands on a fake copy but that was limited to the Inn downtown. F U A K M E R I G H T.
Ah man that sucks! I know it's nice to own the hard copy, I originally had the hardcopy, but sadly the disc got damaged during my 200 mile move, so I ended up buying a digital copy on gog.com, I would defo recommend getting a digital copy, no chance of getting a fake then or damaged discs etc. If you go to gog.com and type in neverwinter nights 2, they sell the complete edition for £15.39 this version includes all 3 of the expansions :)
How were you able to keep 4 members in your party? I thought you could only take three. Please share your secrets!
I hate to say it, but I had to use a cheat! I love having them all with me and I feel that 4 is a pretty nice number for a party size if I'm honest! Open up the command console by typing ' and then type DebugMode 1 hit enter, type in
rs ga_party_limit([number]) to set the party limit
and then follow it up with this one to add whom your extra party member!
rs ga_roster_party_add(name)

Yup!
Wow, is this actually confirmed or a fan theory? It would explain why he sought out Ravel for immorality and why the "Good" incarnation was so coy about why he became immortal in the first place.
How are you traveling with all four of the MOTB companions?
Am using a code that enable you to travel with as many companions as you wish. Would you like the code for it? It's the only "cheat" code I used in the game, I simply like having them all by my side. In the core game though having all your companions with you is far too over powered lol, so would not advise that!

Your character’s wisdom is so low ··· You didn't reveal his plans ,that is not good ~
Actually my characters wisdom is near to 20 in this ^^; I have played a few times since though and revealed his plans many times fully just not recorded as only wanted to record that one time ^^
Also the outcome of this play through was still very good :) That and this playthrough was almost exactly 3 years ago xD played at least 5 times since then, yes I'm a NWN addict lol!
