    To answer your question about corrosive claws for Primal Savagery, consider that a centipede's "fangs" are not actually fangs, but modified forelimbs that have the ability to inject venom into the centipede's prey. Consider that male Platypuses have a claw on their feet that is also venomous.

    Shillelagh is quite potent. It actually can be used on magic items. Moreover, it can be used by a Ranger with Druidic Warrior Fighting Style. It's like Green-Flame Blade. It's not great in hands of wizard or druid or sorcerer, but bladesinger, eldritch knight and etc? Power. Shillelagh allows your ranger to become a SAD (Single Attribute Bonus) melee build.

    • @bonewizard
      @bonewizard  2 года назад +37

      You are right and make some good points. In the hands of a wisdom ranger its decent. Even with that, id still stand by my change. Its basically insurance for if you do not have a magic +# weapon.

    • @Alex-cq1zr
      @Alex-cq1zr 2 года назад +7

      @@bonewizard since even artificer infusions won't give you a +3 weapon, maybe Shillelagh should give you +1 to attack and damage rolls at level 10. Like a weaker temporary bonus action version of artificer's weapon infusion.

      @Alex-cq1zr 2 года назад +2

      @@bonewizard Flame Blade should probably be non-concentration. It's damage die could be changed to 3d10 and damage should increase by one die at every spellslot level of upcast. That's my wild guess on how to fix it. It would still be a spell attack, but if you manage to land it, it deals decent damage without burning through your spellslots at the cost of placing you in melee range. Plus you won't be able to lose concentration. Additionally, i think it would be a good idea to drop the whole blade thing and instead make it so that you can make this melee spell attack if you have an empty hand. I imagine it would look like Combustion / Great Combustion pyromancy from Dark Souls series. Plus with a bonus action, you can create a flame in your empty hand which creates bright light in 10ft radius and dim light in addition 10ft radius. Hand which holds this flame can be used to make a melee spell attack with Flame Blade as if it was empty. You can extinguish this flame by letting go of it.
      Now, you can also play around an enemy which lacks darkvision if you are in darkness by summoning the flame at start of your turn, making an attack and then dropping the flame at the end of your turn. Thus, an enemy would be unable to see you and will make attacks against you with disadvantage.
      Barkskin should be non-concentration and have duration of 8 hours. If you cast it with a 5th or higher level spellslot, it will make your AC 18. If with 7th or higher level spellslot, it will make your AC 20.

    • @Alex-cq1zr
      @Alex-cq1zr 2 года назад

      @@bonewizard I suppose so, although i think that wisdom being used as ability modifier for attacks is already quite strong, but that's just my sense of balance for it. Considering that only you can use this buff, unlike artificer's enhanced weapons, it can be +2 or maybe even +3 without being too powerful. This kinda makes druidic warrior fighting style for ranger very powerful, since not only does it allow ranger to be a SAD build, but also automatically gives ranger +1,+2,+3 weapons with level ups.

    Shillelagh is odd in that hit's much more useful to everyone but the druid, it can make for interesting wisdom based fighters or rangers and in theory could help some of the caster martial subclasses like valour bards but those don't really count since I don't think they have enough spare ASIs to be spending on feats to give them magic sticks. My way of buffing shillelagh is allow the damage dice to scale like cantrips, but you must use your action to make a special weapon attack with the staff, otherwise you don’t get the extra damage. This makes the spell have more damage at higher levels yet it doesn’t stack with things like extra attack and the blade spells. The design of the spell should be intended for Druid, not for multiclass dipping.

      True, but how many many party members have ac below 16? Probably only 1 more squishy guy. And even if you were to cast it on any joe shmoe in your group, that's going to eat up spell slots. Plus the spell only lasts 1 hour. So doing that requires a resource cost, time for casting each instance, and your on fairly tight time limit. That's why I feel confidant with the changes I expressed in the video.

    I don’t mind a lot of the Druid spells when it’s a Druid. They are a full caster that can get new spell lists every long rest, can cast rituals, and can run surveillance/combat for multiple hours of the day through wildshape only needing a short rest to get their wildshape uses back.
    Now these spells typically become MUCH WORSE when put on a Ranger. Because of a few things. Less spell slots, don’t scale damage in a meaningful way, require concrete concentration to be useful, or… y’know, giving a HALF CASTER WHO CANNOT USE RITUAL SPELLS EVERY GODDAMN DRUID RITUAL IN THE GAME WHHHYYYY!?

    It would help if spore druids and wildfire druids could access melee cantrips like Booming Blade and Green-Flame Blade easier than by taking a feat or dipping Arcana Cleric. I think UA wildfire druid may have had at least Firebolt on their list, they should really have an additional cantrip like Stars druid does, and have both Firebolt and Green-Flame Blade added to it's cantrip list. BB and GFB aren't the most thematic for Spores, but Spores could use an overhaul anyway. Best use for it might be as a multiclass with Barbarian for extra attack and rage resistance to stack with temp HP.

      Even still bark skin would still be bad. A shocking number of druid spells are concentration. And druids really dont have a way boost AC other than this. They need it.

    Flame Blade should have just been made in a similar fashion to Shadow Blade. I honestly hate that it takes your ACTION to make ONE attack, and nothing else. Also, it should probably deal 6d4 damage at 2nd level (plus the ability modifier if made like Shadow Blade) so it's in line with Shadow Blade damage and Druids have their own version for it. It could even scale like Spiritual Weapon or Spirit Shroud and increase the damage by 2d4 for every 2 spell levels above 2nd. Because otherwise, I don't think it's worth the casting.

    The Shillelagh buff kinda scares me just because an At Will +3 weapon might be more than worth the weird building nonsense necessary to use it on a ranger or other actual fightin' class.
    Edit: Which... funny that you go "Oh I know these buffs seem underwhelming" but.. You forget, a +1-+3 weapon also gives you buffs to Attack Rolls AS WELL as damage. The only thing saving it from becoming an EXTREMELY good cantrip in the right hands is the fact that you can't really use it with GWM or PAM... Except YOU CAN USE IT WITH PAM BECAUSE YOU CAN USE A QUARTERSTAFF.

      Fair enough. Mostly just made note of it insofar as basically looping a free Magic Weapon into shilelagh turns it from a simple SAD ranger machine but one with a magic weapon on a build that might normally struggle to get those Which I think is neat and pretty strong.@@bonewizard

    If you're going to use the melee combat spells the druid gets you need three things.
    1. A shield
    2. Half Plate Armor
    3. The War Caster Feat
    Yes, Druid can use all of these things and should use all of them. What's that? "But what about the metal restriction?" You ask. Figure out the theme of your druid and then figure out what magical non metal substance your half plate, shield, and scimitar are made of.
    Still living wooden armor made of brambles and woven vines grown from an enchanted tree.
    Magic leaves grown into an emerald like appearance as hard as diamonds.
    Chitin plates as hard as steel harvested from the exoskeleton of whatever giant bug monster the party killed recently.
    The soul of a slain fiend crafted into a scar shaped scimitar made of living demonic flame.
    The bones of an ancient colossal beast whose corpse became the fertilizer your enchanted forest originally sprang from.
    Stone plates bound together and engraved with the history of your Druidic Circle and a star map lading to each and every copy of "stonehenge" your sect built all over the world.
    Enchanted fungus and giant mushrooms.
    Maybe your "scimitar" is actually a macuahuitl. A long narrow wooden club shaped almost like a sword with rows of sharp obsidian chunks fixed into the two "blade" edges.
    There's a hundred different things your druid weapons and armor can be made of aside from metal. If you're playing a full caster there's more than enough magic nonsense in the setting to justify using any substance to craft whatever armor set you want from the medium armor list. Druids are only bound to padded, leather, and hide armors when their players lack imagination.

    Im sorry but i highly disagree with you in the whole premise of that video.
    Druids are among the strongest classes in DnD and are already quite op if you ask me.
    Right now i play as a Paladin6/Fighter2 character after my Wizard 8 PC died.
    The Druid plays a Moon Circle Druid - He was almost as good as a caster as a Wizard and definetly puts out more dmg per round in beast shape as my paladin. Ofc i have the ridicilously high explosive damage with smite...but only for a short period. The druid can pump it out for a veeeeery long time.
    I dont think the druids have to be buffed in any point at all...actually they need to be nerfed quite a bit if you ask me.

    • @bonewizard
      @bonewizard  3 года назад +1

      I appreciate the feedback. Thanks for dropping the comment.
      So judging by your take on moon druid, you have a problem with Guardian of nature and Barkskin.
      Guatdian of nature lasts 1 minute. So your druid would have to take a whole turn to cast this spell and the wild shape. Thats your action and bonus action gone, a whole turn dedicating to buffing and dealing 0 damage.
      And that druid could have always used barkskin. Now they can use it without losing it on the first turn. Because concentration spells that put a caster in melee is bad design.
