Sam Kennedy-Warburton, OBE MStJ (born 5 October 1988), commonly known as Sam Warburton, is a former Welsh international rugby union player. Warburton played rugby for the Cardiff Blues and was first capped for Wales in 2009. He usually plays as an openside flanker but is also capable of playing at blindside. In June 2011, he was named as Wales captain versus the Barbarians and subsequently in August 2011 he was named as the Wales captain for the 2011 Rugby World Cup. In April 2013, he was named the Lions' captain for the 2013 tour to Australia, and was also named as captain for the 2017 tour to New Zealand. Warburton holds the record for the most Wales caps as captain.
In July 2018, the Wales and British and Irish Lions captain announced his retirement from rugby union.

That tackle on Tuilagi is something else, really. Sums up the guy quite well
Great player. A Dragon of Welsh rugby
A great Welshman, a great, great rugby player and a gentleman to boot.....and that's from an Irishman!!
Great player & gentleman conducted himself well on & off pitch,a legend for what he's achieved, even tho Cardiff & Wales got some good back row talent coming thro he will still b missed.well done Sam.
Ah man, such mixed emotions watching this.
I was so looking forward to watching him fight for the Welsh 7 jersey going into the World Cup..
Not ready to say goodbye to Sam at all. What a player.
What a loss
Best 7 wales have ever had
Diolch Sam
Injuries destroyed him. Such a shame. AND IM IRISH
Mr Rugby!! What a guy
A true legend diolch Sam.
Absolute legend
diolch yn fawr iawn Mr. Warburton
One of the best 7s ever, and currently the most successful Lion's captain in history. Such a loss, especially it being tragically due to injury. Diolch Sam!
Ieuan McArthur do you honestly think he was in the same league as McCaw or George Smith?
Honestly, yes I do, it's easy to judge someone when their career has been rocked by injuries, maybe if he played for as long as McCaw or George Smith, you might be saying the same, at the end of the day, it's my opinion, if you don't like it, that's your opinion, and to be honest, I don't care. All I'm doing is honouring someone who's earned a hell of a lot of respect, amd someone who deserved so much more than he got, maybe you should do the same instead of criticising other people's comments and opinions.
@@Hogie336 george smith! You know nothing about rugby. McCaw was a better player but Warburton was a better no7. Also, you provide ABSOLUTELY no basis for your argument. You're just throwing names about. George Smith! Made me laugh out loud that.
@@fazertace6837 err, have you seen George Smith play in his heyday? Eddie Jones says he's the best player he worked with, and the Aussies regularly smashed the Welsh at the breakdown throughout the 2000s with Smith in the back row.
The man's a legend so don't talk like a condescending ass
Mr all round
Diolch yn fawr Sam
Diolch yn fawr iawn Sam, am bobeth.
rip
Joe Vesey he is not dead lol
Yeah Thanks Sam..... But for me, in the age when Wales had 4 or 5 of the best back rowers in the world, he should have been on the bench. Controversial!!
Funny still how his most memorable moment is loosing his team a chance for glory in the world cup with a reckless tackle tho isnt it? over-rated
DC MJ most memorable moment? I'd say him leading the Lions to a tour victory in Australia and a tied series in New Zealand, and him leading Wales to a grand slam is a bit more memorable than that....
DC Mj, Wales had more than a chance to beat France that day. Even with Sam off. They missed a kick for the win and were better than France too. So ,no, we in Wales don't remember him for what was a dubious red. Great player and even better bloke, husband and dad.
His most memorable moment for me was his tackle on Tuilagi at Twickenham that won Wales the grand slam.
You know nothing.
DC MJ most memorable for being the best captain in lions and welsh history
@@irishcomedyvlogs9220 except for Willie John McBride for the Lions, or Gareth Edwards for Wales
