I swear, bro. You really are the most impressive pianist on RUclips. Sure, I’m a big Michel Camilo fiend and deep into Chick Corea, Chano Dominguez, et al. Who isn’t? But you’re such a cool RUclips piano sensei.
"Neo Jazz Method"?? You should call it the "Noah Jazz Method!" :-) I've been intrigued by and interested in doing Giant Steps in a stride version for a while, so was thrilled as soon as I saw the title of this video. Thanks!
I have to roll my tenths too. I was watching one of those transcription videos of Mary Lou Williams the other day. She didn't have to roll her tenths. Her hands were freaking huge. I'm starting to think an alternate sized keyboard might be something to look into.
Hi Noah! I was wondering. Are you up for making a tutorial with a different teaching style? I am watching your videos because I like your sound and want to use your theory for producing similar sounds in a DAW(on my computer). I feel like there might be other people like me, who are more interested in a video that kind of sums up some theory/techniques that they can use for their composition. Without going in too much depth in how to play it in the piano (cause I don't play piano, I click in the MIDI mostly) So a video that is more broad with less depth. Just to showcase what techniques and voicings there are. And how they would sound like.
*I've been meaning to ask you. Does the Nord Stage Compact's keys feel sturdy enough for Piano/Jazz playing, or does it strictly have a pure waterfall action feel?*
Hey, the Nord I’m using is the HP 76, it has hammer action and feels pretty great! Nord for me is definitely at the top when it comes to overall build quality especially if you’re looking for something lightweight with a lot of features. That said, I’m actually a much bigger fan of the Roland weighted key beds. They are a bit lighter, and much much much quieter.
@@NoahKellman *Oh ok, kool! I haven't gotten into the whole software/laptop sounds thing, i play straight out the keyboard, I guess I'm old school in that sense.*
I was hoping to hear dynamic Fats Waller, 1920's Harlem jazz, but you are fixated on a later form of jazz expression and just sound like a tinkly cocktail lounge pianist.
This switched on a light for me. I've practiced Giant Steps in all keys, but never as a Stride. Great idea, Noah!

too many views and not enough likes for my guy; that opening stride was too smooth 😎
Thanks, Seymour 🙏🙏
What's next? Donna Lee and Four brothers mashup with block chords?
how do I see this coming. I'm pretty sure somebody requested this. lol.
Dick Hyman did a great stride vers years ago

Would you be using it mainly as a gigging keyboard or as a production keyboard?
