I’m not from Phoenix but in Fresno California it’s also way too hot in the summer! Especially July through September. I’ve lived in Louisville, KY and Hattiesburg, MS and I have family in Cleveland, OH. The humidity is pretty “thick” and I’m not sure what I like least: dry, burning your skin off heat or walking around like you are in a shower heat. The cost of housing in NE TN is more expensive than I expected. It’s about the same as this part of CA.

Thank you for a great video. We live in Austin and it isn’t as hot as Phoenix but it’s close. We are leaving TX to escape the heat and the influx people moving in. We have narrowed our search to AL and TN. Visited Tuscaloosa last month and really liked it although it doesn’t have the 4 seasons we are looking for. We will be visiting Knoxville and the Tri-cities area next month and based on your videos, I think we will be pleased.

I lived in Tuscaloosa for about 5 years and I liked it a lot. Summers are kinda rough (heat/humidity) and tornado season can be scary. The town has a cool vibe & there's quite a bit to do though. Hope you enjoy our area!

I moved here from Madison, keep in mind I have worked and lived in all regions of the us and phoenix has been the worst move for me. People have been robbing parts off my Harley Davidson while I work. You must have your own vehicle full of tools (all for low pay and no overtime) if you are in the construction trade. Keep your miter saw out of site otherwise someone will see this and know this is full of tools $$$ and take what they want while you are asleep. I have spent two years here and have lost my ability to ride on two wheels and my Ford flex which I have to use for a work vehicle. Someone wanted to go around everyone and go straight in a turn only lane and totaled my ride, lost my job right then and there. No work vehicle = no work. Almost been evicted because I had no work they will kick you to the streets very quickly here in Arizona. Bye Bye Phoenix, learn to swim!

Bless you for saying what you did about the heat in Phoenix! I don't live in Phoenix but I live in Southern Arizona. So the heat where I'm at is definitely more bearable but still hot. My family is considering a move to the Tri-City area. I like the information you're sharing, it's very helpful and I will definitely check out your other videos. Thank you so much!

You definitely hit the nail on the head about the Phoenix area. I'm originally from the Northeast, born and raised in Rhode Island.
My family had enough with Rhode Island and when I was a freshman in High School we relocated to Phoenix, AZ.
Phoenix and Arizona hold a special place in my heart, I LOVED it there...
After High School, I enlisted in the Navy and turned that into a career of sorts for 13 years.
I returned to Arizona and still had the feeling that was HOME to me.
When I was a younger man, the heat didn't bother me as much, I'd be that crazy guy out doing yardwork in 110 degree heat.
However...as the years went by, I started feeling disillusioned and uncomfortable with the ever expanding and sprawling urban area of "The Valley of the Sun". Things had changed as well, the people changed. Once upon a time Phoenix had a more welcoming and friendly vibe than it does now. They had a distinct Southern Style vibe, different than true Southern Hospitality, but uniquely its own Southwest Hospitality, so to speak. The unrelenting heat of the summer and traffic also took it's toll.
That vibe is long gone and has been for decades now.
4 Years ago I was fortunate enough to be able to retire early and the wife and I sold everything, bought a motorhome and hit the road.
We spend a lot of time in South Dakota and love it here....BUT the winters are too brutal for my taste.
We have settled on the NE Tennessee area as our next "home base" so to speak. We have some things to take care of this winter, but as soon as we're done, we're off to the Tri Cities area to score our next home.
Thanks for these videos, you do a great job with them!

Glad I stumbled upon your video. I've have seen so few videos of moving from AZ to E TN, usually it's all CA.
My wife and I have lived in Phoenix for almost 18 years now, by way of growing up in NE Ohio (and hating the winters). You are spot on with how things out here in the desert have changed; the heat, expansive growth, and the people. It is getting way overcrowded and the people are not nearly as nice and kind as they used to be, even from 5-10 years ago. I assume from all the influx of us outsiders here just not mixing all that well. I agree we lack in anything that unifies us with everyone bringing their loyalties from elsewhere. Nothing to really rally around or have total agreement of pride in. The state itself is gorgeous and so unique but it has come time to move on, this time with children in tow!
We are moving to the Knoxville area next year after having visited twice last year, and we loved it. The mountains, the water, the overall feel of kindness from the people. Standing in line at a Publix with my Arizona Cardinals cap on, the cashier immediately jumps into conversation about the team, the NFL, and then into some Vols talk as well. Our AirBNB hosts were fantastic, kind, and helpful. I felt all the pride and love for where they live and how everyone gets behind UT. I am really looking forward to that aspect.
I also cannot wait for the fall color foliage again and winters that are not so harsh as near the shores of Lake Erie. Let there be a little snowfall, and then let it be gone quickly! The humidity is probably going to take some time to get used to again. I just really want to give my kids the opportunity to get outside as much as possible with some space to actually run around and have a large place to play in their own yard.
Having Gatlinburg and Pigeon Forge nearby is attractive as well for those times we want some fun entertainment.

You gotta be pretty sensitive to not be able to handle the heat. I’ve worked in it for over 20 years. The dry heat is way better than the high humidity. The bigger the city, the bigger assholes you encounter. That’s in any state. In the lower half of Arizona you’ll have 8 months of beautiful weather & 12 months in the upper half. But to each their own.
