The garden is really starting to take shape and looks lovely. I had to have my cat put to sleep yesterday as she had a mass on her kidneys. She was only 4 years old, so it was a shock, her being so young. Your video really cheered me up as I have been feeling sad all day.
Isn't it wonderful, gardening at almost waist height? You will certainly enjoy your colourful flowers. You could put chives there too...they have cute, edible flowers, and the greens add flavour to scrambled eggs and salads.
I feel the same. I always kept a garden but when I lost my son to brain cancer, I went to a dark place -- withdrawal from the things that had formerly given my life meaning. The bird feeders went unfilled, my bike gathered dust in the garage, the sewing machine didn't hum anymore, and there were no flowers. My step-father, an avid gardner himself, noticed this and bought me a little garden ornament with the inscription: "In my garden, the answers come." It was a gentle nudge, and a week later I got the push I needed when the local radio garden show was all about creating a 'memory' garden. My son had been my gardening partner, and was blessed to be able to go to his house and gather cuttings and divisions from the plants in his yard to create my own memory garden. I even took the gold fish from the little water feature next to his porch and had a small pond placed just off my patio. My garden was the beginning of working through all that devastating grief and living again. The answers do indeed come in a garden.
Aw so sorry for your loss, but glad you have found some peace in gardening & have memories from his plants & fish. He will be with you there whilst you tend to the plants & he'll be glad you rescued his fish.💕
Sean I’ve got a feeling your garden is so happy you have arrived. So happy! It’s sending you all kinds of flowers and ferns and it’s beaming with hope and pride now that a true Gardner is at hand. And I tell you something else, it listens to you talking and it likes it when you’re sat to have a cup of tea in the mornings.
Hi Sean, I have a handyman who helps me around the place and when he first started working for me I loaned him "Weeds of the West" with things like dandelions marked to say "Not a weed". I use both the roots and leaves. Plus we feed the fresh greens to our bearded dragon lizard. He loves them.
As a fellow owner of old Welsh stone walls I’d be afraid a jet wash would blast out what’s left of the mortar. Clematis is a great climber for beautifying an old wall and doesn’t do any damage either.
Always good to leave a garden for a season. See what comes up. Some weeds are obvious but there may be gems like flowers or perennials. It’s hard to have patience 🤩
I love these videos of planting! I had a grand year with freesia. I did buy a very reasonably priced pot and had forgotten one left from last year which, despite being tossed among stored pots, produced three colors of freesias in massive amounts when I began watering a few sprouts I saw in a completely dry pot! The honeysuckle I bought two years ago is now blooming and six feet tall. Snapdragons are blooming in all colors in profusion draping over a large pot. A star jasmine is still a small plant I bought earlier this year but growing and blooming well. Roses blooming in pots. A red geranium returned which I had thought gone. I'm amazed at what grows and when in this desert climate.
Blinkin heck Sean, you made me laugh so loud and unlady like when you teased the raspberry.. Im watching this 05:30 in NZ, woke the dog the cat and pretty sure I woke the neighbours... that was so out the gate funny...
I have 2 lovely hydrangeas in pots that i bought at Lidle a few years age. Have also had clematis plants, but i lost those. Had 2 pots of the small roses from Tescos that i originally bought as house plants instead of buying a bunch of flowers. I put them outside and they have done well too. You don't have to spend a lot on plants.
Bringing your garden back to life is so rewarding. Thank you for sharing it with us. Your time is well spent making your corner of the world more enjoyable❤😊
Coincidentally, today I planted a great deal of seeds and flowers in my garden today. It was also a sunny day. I wore myself out. Once settled in for the day I was delighted to watch you do the same thing on this video. I have over spent on my flower budget already but no one can have too many flowers. I have PTSD and the garden is one of my lifesavers! It is amazing how therapeutic gardening is…and watching others enjoy their plot is also rewarding to me. I’m so glad I found your channel Sean. You are really helping me and I appreciate you for that.
Many years ago, while on a honeymoon to the UK (Scotland in particular) I was astonished to see fuschia growing like woody shrubs or perennials in the gardens! Here in the States these are usuallty used in hanging baskets and not planted in the ground!
Beautiful new plants Sean. I do love a rose. It's a dream of mine to some day have a "proper" rose garden. Maybe when I'm an old Nana and have won the lotto. I think 'Joseph's Coat' climbers are gorgeous. Kitty cats seem to be well at ease there now. 💗💗 Love from Ontario!
I prefer a bucket of hot soapy water and a scrubbing brush to a jet washer. You can do a little bit now and again, it’s quite therapeutic and much less damaging.
I was going to say about you getting some aubretia to trail down over the wall when you mentioned it , there's a really lovely blue type you can get now. The gardens really starting to take shape now. The plant near your rear garden door is a purple hardy geranium.
I kept hearing gulls. 🐦 I think you have a Herring Gull nest somewhere nearby. The garden looks lovely. Nice to see the cats enjoying themselves. I like the way you are making a comfy home.
Nice to see the sun out and blue sky in your garden. You will have some lovely flowers in a few weeks of different colours. Raspberry plant will be nice once the crop comes. You were saying about planting a tree , why don't you get a small patio apple tree to go into that space. I have one in a pot in my garden, full of apple blooms bees love it.
Great to see your garden coming together Sean. Have you thought about maybe painting some of the breeze block bits in a soft green or sand colour ? Maybe white down by the house to reflect the light?
@@seanjamescameronYou can get some fairly cheap plant hangers/troughs for vertical planting which would look great for the walls near your kitchen. Maybe plant some herbs amongst the flowers for your cooking. I've grown strawberries, tomatoes, garlic, spinach, basil, sage, thyme, mint, chives, onions etc. It makes a big difference rather than just looking at a wall & brightens the place up. It encourages the wildlife too with bees & butterflies & the birds come too. Although I did keep my cat in when they were nesting & had young at this time of year. Lovely to sit out & watch as things grow
Soap looks good Sean. In waitrose you can get liquid soap that is natural and can be used for anything from shampoo to cleaning floors and washing clothes. It's a good price and all natural.
Sean, Don't forget to water in your newly planted flowers...unless you're depending on the rain...it's always good to ease the shock of transplanting...enjoy the garden....
Garden looks great! I grew Akebia (chocolate vine). It likes full sun, part shade, moist feet. Really spreads a lot. Anyway, I am glad to see you getting back into the garden!!
I follow Danu's Irish Herb Garden on RUclips & she makes all sorts of natural medicines, drinks & lotions. She did a video on dandelions & she uses all parts of the plant & roots for different things. She's very good & explains things so well. You can fry the flower in batter like you would courgette flowers. I'm going to make nettle soup in a few weeks. Its very good for you & is quick & easy to make & is delicious. Hope the dandelions help you.
Coconut oil soap is the only soap that lathers in salt water. Your garden is really coming along. One herb I recommend is 'Arp' Rosemary. It's hardy, upright and doesn't get too big as a bush. In summer it smells great! Purple sage is gorgeous and hardy. Real Chamomile smells just like Juicy Fruit gum and can be tucked into small bare spots. All of these herbs are evergreen down to USDA Zone 6. Freesia is only hardy down to USDA Zone 9. They might not overwinter in Wales. After they bloom and when the foliage dies down you can dig them up and try overwintering them to replant in the Spring. Akebia is an aggressive climber, though where you are it will probably behave. The fruit is edible and tastes like watermelon inside a purple sausage shaped pod. Fuchsia fruit is edible. Some varieties are tastier than others.
Great video, your garden is emerging beautifully. I bought my first house two years ago at the age of 46. One of the delights was finding treasures in the garden. 💚🌿🌸
Your gardens looking lovely! A tip I'd give you is to never plant mint straight into your garden as its spreads like mad and has a very stubborn root! I did this once and supplied the butchers shop down the road with it to sell with his lamb! Absolute nightmare to contain. Best to put it in a pot. Beautiful plants! It will soon be full 🌱🌿☘💐🌷🌹🌻🏡
Sean, if you have an old bottle of weed killer or lawn feed the little green sprayer in their nozzles can be inserted into your hose and it’s like a pressure washer, we use one
Sean add some trough type pots on ledge outside kitchen window add colourful plants to brighten that wall and as you said add a plant that can grow and trail over the wall so you have colour all summer that wall is great for planting up, garden coming on a treat 👍🏻👍🏻
We made wine from Dandelions, elderflower , rosehip , parsnip , blackberry , you can make coffee from the roots of Dandelions, but you dont like coffee.
Here in the states, we have small refrigerators for dorm rooms in college. Many sizes. Maybe? The flowers you put in look just lovely. The colors are so pleasing, I have an established garden, so what I put in matters to me now for size and color and I do spend time thinking about it but not worrying on it. Glad the sun came out. Makes such a difference in outlook.
Just lovely. I agree "don't over think". The more I think I know the more confused I get. Dig a hole and plonk them in. The cost of plants is becoming unaffordable. Now as an Aged Pensioner an sowing seeds.
May I suggest you put something around your lovely newly potted plants to stop the cats from using the bed as their litter tray (maybe you could put a covered litter tray out there for them to use instead) such as stones or pebbles. xxx
The flowers are so beautiful against the stone walls. I just bought a rose bush after many years of telling myself that they are too difficult to grow. I just decided to try. Why not? :) I have good luck with most everything else so I am hopeful.
Should be beautiful during the summer when all these plants cascade over the stone walls. Gotta love those ferns. The Greeks at the allotment call it Tenderline because, I guess pronouncing Dandelion is difficult. I always have a mental chuckle at how they pronounce the word. When I was a kid when we'd be coming home from Hamilton after visiting relatives, there would be Italian mamas bent over along the slope from the Queen Elizabeth Way picking dandelions. In those days they wore longish dresses and lace up ankle boots and their bums faced the highway. On the regular there would be at least a dozen grandmas picking dandelions. Greeks cook massive amounts of greens (horta) and drink the cooking water afterwards. Something the much lauded Mediterranean diet gurus neglect to mention. The greens are dressed with olive oil and lemon juice. Italians like to sautee the greens in olive oil, garlic, and chili flakes. Super healthy greens that help with blood pressure, and improve bone density. At the allotments everyone grows Amaranth (Calalloo, Vlita, and I don't know how it's called by Filipinos and Bangladeshis but everyone grows varieties). Once left to go to seed, it comes back every year. Same with Green and Red Orach, another spring favourite. Americans call Amaranth Pigweed and think of it as a terrible, invasive weed. It would do people a world of good to eat it and not try to eradicate it especially since as time has gone on this plant has become immune to herbicides. It originated in Central and South America but has found a loving home all around the world just like peanuts, potatoes, tomatoes, beans, and peppers. There are many varieties of Amaranth, most grown for food (leaves and seeds), some for ornamental purposes. It is a zero maintenance plant that provides excellent food value. Many plants in the Chenopodium family have been used for food for thousands of years.
Good morning Sean, your garden is looking lovely, Aldi, Lidl, an Homebargains, do lovely cheap plants, i am slowly filling mine with perennials, an trying to find ground covers to cut down on weeding as painful bending, i wonder if with your knowledge you would know the name if a spreading ground civer i had it was beautiful pink flowers anbthey opened inbthe day to sun an closed at night. i had a new gardener young lad to clear beds of weeds an ground elder, came back from shopsvto find hr had dug it all up with his machine an totally distroyed a huge area. Needles say he was not allowed back. The plant was given to me by a patient when i was District Nursing, an Never knew the name. an the dear gentleman has since passed. I love the plants you popped in today. thanks for your videos Sean. Blessings from Southport.Sonja😊
You might like to consider giving the Akebia some help to climb, wires or such like. Might also help in keeping it under control, it can be a thug when happy.
Sean , dandelion salad is delicious. Only take the youngest leaves . Dressing is oil and lemon juice or apple cider vinegar . You can also make soup , dandelion leaves and potatoes .
@@dd7521 I googled foraging channel UK but there are dozens of channels ...but anyway I'm French and live in France so we wouldn't have the same plants I guess
Hi Sean, garden is looking lovely and will be blooming in no time. Its funny that you call it Snow in the mountain where in Scotland i call it Snow in summer! It was Lidl you got plants as i bought the freesia as well. Scent is gorgeous. A lot of the stores do a good range of plants coming into summer and a good variety 😊
Keep the Allavare with your medical bits and bobs because it will be the first place you think to look for it when you want it. The soil where you started your cottage garden looks fantastic! Not only are the dandelions good for tea, but they look pretty and the pollinators love them 💛 It's lovely watching your garden taking shape.
Hi Sean, am enjoying watching your videos from Cardiff. Dandelions are really good for you. The leaves are good in a salad, the Dandelion heads you can make honey and I know the root is good for your liver. Love your cats, They have settled in well. Your garden will be beautiful when the flowers take. Thank you for brightening up the day.
I find it rather amazing that you manage to do all the things you do without a car! I guess this just goes to show how connected the valleys are - although don’t ever get frustrated with buses not turning up, or not being able to pop to certain places easily? Especially when you need to do things like carry equipment to the allotment 😃
I bet you’re enjoying planting in your own garden. I’ve just come in from pottering around in my own garden. Until the knees started to protests that is. 😅
Dandelion is a natural diuretic hence the nickname pee the bed. It helps stop water retention however Sean , I cannot cope with all those round that rose, Im afraid I would just buy the tea but of course you can eat the leaves in salads as Im sure you know loving the garden vids yes their plants are good and cheap I have bought from both supermarkets best wishes 😊
Hi Sean, i was looking into the Akebia chocolate vine after seeing you plant it. It looked so lovely i wanted to see if it was something for me. I also have cats and read that is can be toxic to cats. Just thought i should pass this on just in case so you at least know and can research if it is still something you want in your garden. I love how you are bringing your garden to life.
Lidl here in France sell plants and seeds, usually alot less expensive. We have found they all grow very well but there are not so many seeds in the pkt , hence they are less expensive. My son lives in UK and he bought 4 pkts seed for £1 from his local Lidl.
Hi Sean. Your garden, will smell and look lovely in the next few weeks. There's nothing nicer, than sitting in the garden, in the evening when some of the perfume of flowers come alive. Are Night scented stocks, similar to Nicotiana. I had Nicotiana years ago outside my back door. It smelt Gorgeous. Thank you for the early video Sean 👍😊💐
Night scented stock has the most beautiful scent. I seed in pots and stagger them 3 weeks apart so as one pot finishes another is ready. So easy to grow . Place near door so you can smell inside and out on a warm evening. ❤
Sean, yes quite right. Dandelion leaves are a bitter herb and others, such as watercress and rocket are good for cleaning and healing the liver. Can also be eaten as a salad.
Hey Sean, you have the perfect spot for planting what will produce cascades of beautiful aubretia…. I have just bought 6 large, established plants from Tesco at just a couple of quid. Plant campanula above them, and maybe some scented stock mixed with trailing lobelia and petunia above them …..beautiful…..and will compact and cut out weeds.( in your back garden, that is )
All looks good sean hopefully the weather is turning warmer. My bulbs have all gone now. The supermarkets are a good value. I have brought mine from tesco. Just got to put them all in now😊
Cheaper than hiring a jet wash, you can purchase a jet fitting to put on your hose, if you have a hose? I suggest a hose that is an expandable one, as they take up less space, and are great - I have one. xxx
Your garden looks Lovely Sean. Yes the ferns and ivy are pretty. Perhaps a Honeysuckle or clematis would be attractive on your wall. 👍👍 Enjoy your planting and pottering.
It all looks so homely ,cottagy and welcoming .I leave ALL the Dandelions here around our 160 year old cottage - First food for the bees , very medicinal and of course very pretty plus we have all kinds of Ferns here too 💚
I read somewhere that someone tried to plant a tray of dandelion seeds and they didn't germinate! They don't do too badly propagating themselves though.
I drink dandyloin tea. I like it with a wedge of lemon and tiny tiny bit of stevia Yes, it is very good fir liver cleans. It is excellent source vit C. Oh, you can make it into ice tea.
Hi Sean, lovely to see your garden taking shape! I've found a supplier of the raspberry variety so I'm going to get one too. 🙂 I love Freesias the scent is amazing! Planted some bulbs last year, they are doing really well! Great your able to get some plants from a cheaper supermarket chain brilliant! Agreed re Dandelions - funny enough I saw a short video about them on Instagram about the whole plant being really useful - I'll ping that to you! Agreed about Dandilion leaves the young ones can be put in a salad and are packed with goodness! Take care.
Hello Sean, garden is coming along nicely,it will be nice for you to look at while you are in your kitchen chopping veg or washing up,not to mention the great smell of the different plants.l think it will look interesting having random blots of colour all over, very Jackson Pollock lol.Take care Sean, nice to see the cats enjoying the sun too 💜
Isn’t spring marvellous? Watching things turn green really lifts one’s spirits 😊

Nice flowers in garden nice to have lidi in Treorchy they do garden plants ever summer and if go b and m stores and homebargins great video
Nothing like getting out and pottering in the garden.
Sean, you back garden is surprisingly big! You have a lovely view from your back upstairs window!
The early insects and bees are in need of the dandelions, so you're doing them and yourself a favor, leaving them.
Peacock butterflies will feed off the dandelion nectar too.

I prefer a bucket of hot soapy water and a scrubbing brush to a jet washer. You can do a little bit now and again, it’s quite therapeutic and much less damaging.

You can toss a few of your dandelion leaves in your smoothie...or add them in with your salad.
I pot up dandelions for the tortoise and I 👍🥰
I love your cottage garden its beautiful 😊
Love the ferns in the cracks on the walls. You're right Sean, lobelia and alyssum hanging over those walls would look stunning.

Love the Euphorbia myrsinites maybe? Next to the Snow on the Mountain
Wow that all sounds good 😊
Hi Mattie, UK foraging channel has just put up a wild food salad dressing and a fabulous spring salad which he foraged.
@@dd7521 I googled foraging channel UK but there are dozens of channels ...but anyway I'm French and live in France so we wouldn't have the same plants I guess
@@marie34K it's called UK Wildcrafts , I should have been more specific AND got the correct channel name. 👍🏻
@@dd7521 found it Thanks a lot .🙂
You could plant a small herb garden and use them dried or fresh in dishes or delicious, refreshing drinks, hot or cold. Add a bee skep if you can.
Garden is coming along nicely. Since your bag of cement is too heavy to move, perhaps paint a Welch namr for beautiful garden. Just a thought.😊
Just watch that you take off all the seed balls or the dandelions will spread all over the place.
I find Morrisons supermarket the cheapest place for plants. And Lidl has had some great gardening bits in the middle isle over the last few weeks.
I find it rather amazing that you manage to do all the things you do without a car! I guess this just goes to show how connected the valleys are - although don’t ever get frustrated with buses not turning up, or not being able to pop to certain places easily?
Especially when you need to do things like carry equipment to the allotment 😃
Gardening is good for the soul :) We are a few weeks behinds you here in Eastern Canada so it's nice to see what we will hopefully see here soon :)
I love the ferns too
Hi Sean, i was looking into the Akebia chocolate vine after seeing you plant it.
I get plants from ldlls and they are cheap cheerful so just enjoy thank you Sean xx😊
I suggest a hose that is an expandable one, as they take up less space, and are great - I have one. xxx
Your garden is going to be beautiful. A riot of color. Can't wait ❤❤
Smashing video Sean!! Lovely to see that lovely garden comin to life!! Keep em comin!!
Cat mint for the cats Sean?
I’ve just bought 2 patio apple trees called sops in wine, & discovery I agree nice to get some fruit, also dandy lions are great for the bees.
Your garden looks Lovely Sean. Yes the ferns and ivy are pretty. Perhaps a Honeysuckle or clematis would be attractive on your wall. 👍👍 Enjoy your planting and pottering.
The garden is starting to look really pretty! Nice to see the cats outside enjoying the spring sunshine.
It all looks so homely ,cottagy and welcoming .I leave ALL the Dandelions here around our 160 year old cottage - First food for the bees , very medicinal and of course very pretty plus we have all kinds of Ferns here too 💚
Your garden looks lovely with all those flowers 💐 in blum
I read somewhere that someone tried to plant a tray of dandelion seeds and they didn't germinate! They don't do too badly propagating themselves though.
I drink dandyloin tea. I like it with a wedge of lemon and tiny tiny bit of stevia Yes, it is very good fir liver cleans. It is excellent source vit C. Oh, you can make it into ice tea.
Hi Sean, lovely to see your garden taking shape! I've found a supplier of the raspberry variety so I'm going to get one too. 🙂
I love Freesias the scent is amazing!
Take care.
