If you listen to the album version of the song, it establishes that the girl is writing on a diary (which many teenage girls actually did back in the 90s). It is not really clear how huge the age gap is. Or it could be that her crush is her math teacher. And he fantasizes about him through his diary. So in either case, if you think about it objectively, is it uncommon for teenage girls to have crush and fantasize on older men? Us 90's kids were young adults. We are in no way a reflection of today's youth! We had common sense to understand mature music for exactly what it was. No one had reasons to be concerned about lyrical content on kids shows back then. It's this new generation of kids that are inadequate to our maturity level of yesterday. Which makes songs like this seem alarming from a viewing point of today's society.
