    Aaliyah was one of the best and will NEVER EVER be forgotten. Her vocals on this performance was so mature for a 15 year old girl. You can tell she was a Sanger not just a singer.

    Aaliyah was 14 when she recorded this song, at the start she says May 5th 1993, Aaliyah's Diary...and here she is grinding slowly on Nick TV... it's so mental how as kids we didn't even see it...yet she certainly had many many adults around her.

  • @Ironheart73
    @Ironheart73 2 года назад +5

    Ok first, let us forget that R. Kelly ever happened for a second. This is actually a teen-song that makes perfect sense. There are many ways the lyrics could be interpreted.
    If you listen to the album version of the song, it establishes that the girl is writing on a diary (which many teenage girls actually did back in the 90s). Meaning, everything she is narrating in the song is a mere fantasy of hers.
    It could be that she is a high school freshman who has a big crush on a senior. It is not really clear how huge the age gap is.
    Or it could be that her crush is her math teacher. And he fantasizes about him through his diary. Sure some of the lyrics could be a little sexual but sexual awakenings happen during those years.
    So in either case, if you think about it objectively, is it uncommon for teenage girls to have crush and fantasize on older men? In fact some of you reading this may have fond memories of similar experiences that you laugh about it now.
    But indeed it is unfortunate we would learn about the true dark meaning behind this song

    Us 90's kids were young adults. We are in no way a reflection of today's youth! We had common sense to understand mature music for exactly what it was. No one had reasons to be concerned about lyrical content on kids shows back then. It's this new generation of kids that are inadequate to our maturity level of yesterday. Which makes songs like this seem alarming from a viewing point of today's society.

    There is zero chance this performance happens on a kids network in front of kids in the 2020s. Or 2010s for that matter. 90s were wild.

      Even wilder in the 80s and earlier

    I used to watch All That when I was a kid. I don't remember this performance but dang, I'm surprised they let her sing such a naughty song on a kid network.

    This All That stage was actually my favorite of them all because it resembles a playground somewhere in an alley. That door going up is rarely shown because sometimes after the musical guest intro, the door is already up.

    @QueenBJanelle Im glad they finally brought back some of the 90s shows. I was on vacation for the past 3 weeks, so i missed the 90s premiere.. when I came back days ago to watch the lineup I was deeply disappointed to notice that All That doesn't air the musical performance part. I was actually looking forward to those. =/
