    I spent 5 years near cripple after a snowmobile crash where in a knife from my pack shot threw my lower back cutting all my shit up. Doctors said I could not be fixed and for years I went along with that opinion until depression turned to anger and left me with no other choice but to hit the gym. Well it's been 5 months now and I feel better than ever, 50 lbs lighter and with great strength gains and no pain a big thank you goes out to TWM. Your advice has helped so much, I sincerely thank you

    Was just diagnosed yesterday with the same condition as Keith (L4-L5, L5-S1). My advice to anyone with back pain would be to get an MRI or a CT-scan as soon as possible.

    • @MrNahom1
      @MrNahom1 7 лет назад +3

      but they aint gonna give you nothing but some pain pills right? the only thing at that point is to not fuck it up even more aint it?

    • @TwigAndRockCereal
      @TwigAndRockCereal 7 лет назад +3

      Tom Hagen
      Most doctors will just give you some pills (anti-inflammatory) which don't do much. Your right, at the point where you need a scan there isn't much to do apart from not making it worse. But it is still good to know what the problem is.

    • @etchosts8162

      Tom Hagen The treatment is basically the same you cant really fix a disc just do back safe exercises do bent lift or twist.

    man don't tell these ppl there is no hope. I've herniated a disc L5S1 while squatting, I couldn't even do the bar without pain during the lift and even more pain the day after. 2 months later I'm doing the 135 front squat for 10 no pain at all, just be patient and take rehab seriously. Learn how to brace real hard, work the deep core muscles, and work on mobility/imbalances in your body. I plan to be back to normal in 4-6 months or so, don't give up.

    I also have experienced a herniated disc and a pinched sciatica which was the most excruciating pain i've ever felt. It happened from deadlifting with a round back (I didn't have a coach so i just snapping my stuff up). Anyways after not being to sleep or focus in school for over a year in a half i finally broke and visited a local chiropractor. They did a Scan and after about 4 months of "adjustments" the pain had subsided and my range of motion is back...
    PLEASE THUMBS UP SO THEY CAN CONSIDER

    Avoid back surgery if possible, unless you have neurological deficits or bladder/bowel incontinence. Epidural spinal injections may help, along with physical therapy and medications. Sometimes the herniated disc might heal itself. I had 5 surgeries and believe me, you don't wanna go there. You're young and in great physical shape, and this is a good advantage to have. Good luck.

    I used to have a lower back pain due to my scoliosis. But it subsided A LOT since I started doing compound movements like ass to grass squats, deadlifts etc. I don't think ppl who have healthy spine should avoid those super testosterone-booster exercises. I personally hate boring isolation movements in the gym. I enjoy working with barbell and my whole body. Dips, overhead press, bench and rows are best IMHO. don't be scared to do compound movements if you have healthy spine and proper technique which is crucial! But personally I don't know whether I should push more and more on weights. I feel I can do more but I am afraid to hurt my spine due to my scoliosis. But it still helped me at some point to strenghen my back to support my curved spine.

    deadlifts are actually a good exercise for your back. Lamar Gant, a powerlifter, had scoliosis (curving defect of the spine) used powerlifting to improve his health. He is one of the best of all time and he was the first to deadlift 3x his bodyweight. Squats are more dangerous if you have fucked up form. So many people have fucked up form and go into the gym doing stupid shit. I do heavy squats and deadlifts and I never have lower back or knee pain now.

    I have the same exact herniation (L5, S1), degenerative disc disease, and crazy leg pain that stops me dead in my tracks. I had the discectomy surgery roughly two yrs ago now. didn't work, I'm in worse shape now than prior to surgery.
    I've gain at least 50lbs since and I can barely walk half the time. I'm on pain meds, bee. for 2 yrs now. I'm done. I'm tired of hurting. I want to get better, which is how I found this video. just looking up things I can do to help myself.
    some days... I don't know. I just want to end the pain. you know? I don't know why I am writing this, I don't normally post comments on anything.

      I'm on pain meds, have been since surgery. I'm also taking cymbalta, for nerve pain. I am in the process of getting a nerve stimulation unit? Supposedly once pain is triggered, the unit turns it into a numbing sensation. No real change since my initial post. It is what it is I guess.

    I like your video guys. I've been dealing with herniated discs in L3,4,5,S1 for about 5 years. it's a bitch. everyday is pain. some days are better than other. it's been getting better though. I hurt it doing straight leg dead lift with 225 and no belt like an idiot. I still workout but I don't do anything that puts pressure on it. I do zero weight lunges,squats and calves. and for military I'll do them upside-down against a wall. the only thing that helps me is stretching my legs, strengthening my core, taking tumeric, and being careful. good luck all

    I used to workout a lot, lifted a lot of shit at school, at age 16 I hurt my lower back by slipping on ice with my bike, landed on the steer with my back and 3 herniated discs, . I've got days my legs are fucking dead but fuck that, I've learned to live with it. I've got a desk job, I still workout, avoiding the lower back, got a supportive belt, knee support and ankle support. I wanted to be a wrestler but shit got real too soon, y'know. If you get a serious injury, it sucks but that's life,eh.

I still lift, and have found some workarounds to my limitations (like you guys, I don't do squats or deadlifts, nor can I do seated overhead presses, or standing calf raises where the pads sit on my shoulders and compress my spine.) Would be great to see y'all do a video on your techniques for working around the limitations. Thanks.

    FYI the disc problem was already there years ago, the deadlift incident just got me thinking about taking care about my spine and being active and getting a big core and a big lower back.

    I would go super super freaking light for low back if you have an injury. That way your not crippled if you fuck up. move wrong with 20 lbs. is way better than moving wrong with 300lbs.

    Wow can’t believe you have the exact same injury like me in the same location I have mild disc degeneration and bulging disc... it’s been paining allot and watching allot of these videos online about how there’s no cure is really stressing me out.. do you guys still get pain now? Does glucosamine and cod liver oil help and bone broth? How long did it take to heal from disc degeneration and bulging disc pain? Also will I be able to lift heavy weights again for dumbbells bench press exercises that don’t affect my back so much

    I had exactly exactly exactly the same thing happen. Messed my lower back up in the military, two years after I found out its a bulging disc, and I've had sciatica and hardcore pain for a year and a half. I had a epidural three weeks ago and it helped a lot but its wearing off and I don't know what to do.

    I did 1 year of back hyperextensions before going up to deadlift, it made my lowe back much stronger and hopefully decreased the chance of deadlift injury (u wont ever go 100% perfect form every single day).

    dude you can get a fracture in your back and still not be paralyzed. only if your spine rlly breacks like in half thats when your paralyzed. but most of the time if you get a fracture that is not that bad, you wont get paralyzed.

    • @alanslavik3599

      @@Dr3adKnight yeah, had the whole shooting pain down my left leg and all that. Insurance made me take physical therapy,(like that would fix it) before signing off on surgery. Surgery relived the pain in the leg, but it made my back worse. All the scar tissue from the surgery incision has really taken away some mobility. If you had the same thing honestly, if you can live with it, don't do the surgery. There's days it flares up and I can't even put my socks on. It's a nightmare

    I fixed my lower back pain with deadlifts. My lower back muscles supported my spine alot better and fixed my overall posture.
