The definition of an original cobra can be stretched in many bizarre ways these days, especially since I believe Shelby is in charge of certification. Goodwood gets the creme de la creme though. It’s possible all or most of them are true originals rather than ones rebuilt around a small scrap of surviving of a surviving frame. Awesome either way.

Is it me or does it look like at 27:04 that Button’s driving partner completely forgets he’s driving a stick-shift, and actually goes to up-shift as if he’s got a paddle gear shifter on the wheel? You can see his hands motioning as if he’s going to shift up on phantom paddles on his wheel, and it looks like he’s punched the clutch as well at the same time. That might’ve been what caused it to slip out of gear and retire the car. I may well be wrong but I know if I’d dropped the clutch having built up such high revs in my old car it would have destroyed the gearbox and lost all power… slightly different car tho lol.

No, not downforce, it allows the air to detach from the back of the car with less turbulence. Better drag coefficient.

But I'd like to know what modern commercially available cars would do. Is it a slam dunk that modern would win here?

A modern Hyundai wouldn't stand a chance, a modern Corvette would probably run laps around them. What's so appealing with these cars, is the fact that they have to be driven in a completely different manner due to the bias ply tyres, the racing is certainly action packed and risky due to the grass.

Real deal. The car Jimmie Johnson's driving (the red #13) for example, is a car that raced at Le Mans in the 1960s, and is also a right-hand drive version. The TVR that crashed into the barriers, that even raced at Goodwood in the 1960s. One notable DNS in this race is a Ferrari 250 LM, that one is the second to last 250 LM built, and finished 2nd overall at Le Mans in 1965.

Did you watch the in-car camera shots? The best drivers' hands are so much more calm. Compared to the others, Jensen was so much more in control, with so much less sawing of the steering wheel. All those extraneous and reactionary inputs slow down the car.
