My hat is off to you for watching these. It's gut wrenching to watch others sacrifice their lives and health and suffer in the most horrific ways, to make right, what others have made wrong - but this has been an eternal truth played out over and over again throughout the ages.

Kudos to you for sticking with this series. Many reactors give up because it's too brutal. The next one is the heart breaker. 😭

Thank you for watching this series, and nothing you have said has been offensive.
I've watched it several times, and this and the next are the two hardest episodes for me.
I'm a retired Marine (76-96) and learned about John Basilone from boot camp on. He is one of the biggest of quite a few heroes in Marine Corps history. The two main roads at the base at Camp Pendleton are named after him and General Vandegrift.
Lena lived another 54 years, but she never remarried.
I just have to remember that their story was one of hundreds of thousands of similar ones in the U.S., and many more in other countries, during that war. This was one of the most poignant, though.
    Again, thank you.

Yes, some of the episodes are devestating. I wonder if Lena never remarried because she never stopped loving Basilone. And I agree, it's heartbreaking to think that so many men had similar stories, some that we'll never know about. Thank YOU JimFinely.

Thank you for watching this series. This episode really hits me hard also for two reasons. First I met my wife while going to my Navy "A" school in Millington, she is a Marine. The second is my Dad was a Navy Pharmacist Mate (actually called a Corpsman when attached with Marines, now they are all Corpsman, the equivalent of an Army Medic) with the 3rd Marines in the Battle of Okinawa (you will see the Battle of Okinawa in the last two episodes).

you pick up on nuances better than many other channels like when basilone is reading out the script, you seem to notice what happening before it does

John, at least in this depiction, was acting like he needed to prove something. Just like he told his brother not to do. Obviously, this man had nothing to prove. None of these men did. A great generation. Lovely reactions. All the best to you.

I've been to iwo jima, you sink into the sand. The rocks are ragged and absolutely destroy anything they touch. You can feel the heaviness of the blood spilled on those sacred sands. The island os only a few miles across. It took a long time for marines to clear it

This episode broke my heart, even though I already knew the story of John Basilone. This series can be gut-wrenching, especially knowing that it's not fiction. I have the utmost respect for our greatest generation, and it's apparent in your reactions that you do, too. You are definitely not offensive, young lady, so pay no attention to the geek squad at RUclips. Two more to go. Hang in there; it'll be worth it.

Hang in there, you are doing well and deserve more views. You present yourself well, have a lovely voice and accent, and track whatever you are watching. If you had a little more wrap up and comments at the end it might be better, but there are a lot of reactors with big channels and many thousands of reviews that don't do the quality that you are doing. God bless.

Thank you again for being here, I really hope you're right, and one day the channel will kick off. Have a great day, Mack Xx

Manila John Basilone was the first face(picture) I saw when I reported to 1st Battalion, 7th Marines. I believe he received a Navy Cross(posthumously) for his actions on Iwo Jima. Chesty Puller is the only Marine that is a bigger legend.
