Interesting Trivia:"Carol" was a reference to Carol Klein, Sedaka's ex-girlfriend from high school and a fellow songwriter at the Brill Building. She had since married Gerry Goffin, who took the tune, and wrote the playful response "Oh! Neil", which she recorded and released as an unsuccessful single the same year (1958) under the stage name Carole King
@@josephscally6270 Back then, "Klein" was probably considered "too Jewish"--even though the name Sedaka is literally Hebrew (but it's Sefardic, so not generally recognized as a Jewish name in the US).
And to be clear, even though Carole’s response was not as successful as Oh Carol, she was one of the most successful singer-songwriters of the 20th century, crafting hit songs for multiple artists. Her own album Tapestry is widely considered a masterpiece.
You rock girl & I 'm so glad & happy with your comme ts. I love all the songs that Neil wrote & sang & to date. I'm still his # 1 fan. I became a fan since 1962 & when I came to America, my first wish is to see him in person & it became a reality when I was pregnant at 8 months & saw him at the Desert Inn in Vegas. Thank you, dear lady, for your compliments while you listened to ' OH CAROL.
Listening to this . . . and this 70+ lady is transported back to being a teenager jiving on a Saturday night! Neil Sedaka is also an amazing songwriter for other people's hits as well as being so successful himself.
Oh, thank you for playing our baby boomer music. Love Neil. I have his greatest vinyl record in my collection. Can you find Gene Pitney's music. His anogher artist I love his voice. ❤❤
The lyrics tell us he should be sad, sad enough to cry and die, but he can't contain the ebullience he feels knowing he wrote and is now singing a hit song. But, seriously, you'll love *"Laughter in the Rain"* (my favorite song of his), if you haven't already heard it.
When you have a chance, listen to 2 great songs by Neil Sadaka, Laughter in the Rain and his newer version of Breakin Up is Hard To Do. Probably his 2 greatest songs from a musical production, composition stand point. Keep that trillion dollar smile going, so pretty...........
Your reactions are funny as hell lol...The beginning as if hes talking to u...who me then he says u treat me cruel...Your reaction oh yeah he means me haha u funny Royce...another great song and reaction...the women in the crowd looked like they were scared to shimmy for the man...Have a awsome time at the party make sure ya eat before drinking I have that problem most the time... I like your warm, intimate style and I'm glad you like the music of this period. Neil was one of the best of the 'Brill Building' singer-songwriters. But the music is not live - he's miming to his own record. His 'gay' dance moves with that goofy grin crack me up. I used to teach English to a sweet Japanese grandmother who loved this song. My fantasy was to sing it to her in karaoke in front of her husband, on bended knee for the spoken interlude. 'Oh Kayako'.
You have done this song now you have almost obligated yourself to do Oh Neill by Carol King. It is the "answer song" He did this song about her she did that song about him.

Neil was next to Paul Anka the Kings of Teen Angst. Carole King would be a superstar in her own right who was next to Ellie Greenwich (RIP) the first successful Female Songwriters in Music.
