    I’ve been hearing about those god awful Nike contracts. Just bcuz they get the gear and the cool factor. I advise any athlete to sign with the brand that is paying and allows u to get endorsements

    Contracts for soccer, basketball, American football etc, are usually public, so why are contracts that track athletes sign so secretive?

    • @FitzDunk
      @FitzDunk  Год назад

      This is a great question, the secrecy keep upcoming athletes in the dark about what the possible value they might have by comparing the salary of their pars

    • @buhrochem
      @buhrochem Год назад

      @Fitzroy Dunkley so should this not be made public? Shouldn't athletes start publicizing their earnings?

    • @FitzDunk
      @FitzDunk  Год назад

      100% yes that would level the playing field. Pay transparency leads to equal and higher pay

    It will be interesting to see the impact NILs will have. Athletes will have better financial footing upon graduating and may not have to "settle " for a standard gear contract.

    • @FitzDunk
      @FitzDunk  Год назад

      From what I’ve seen with NIL teams only the athletes at the top of the sport will get them, those are the people who were going to get a shoe contract anyway. If an athlete who isn’t the fastest want to better position themselves they will have to grow their social media following to show brands that they drive value in other ways

    Is this the first times you’ve heard about a gears only contract? 👟

      Gear contract as a term yes. I have multiple friends on gear contracts and from asking their POV it seems like a win win (plus the occasional free gear for me too 😂). That being said my athlete network is mainly pre-university graduation and UK-based, so it’s interesting to get a different POV.

    It all depends on how much I can generate off the track as well. If a have multiple streams of income I would take it and use that as leverage to negotiate with other companies

    • @FitzDunk
      @FitzDunk  Год назад +1

      This is a great point, but competing without any guarantees of a base salary can be stressful and affect your performance however it is possible to come out net positive if you compete well

      @@FitzDunk right I only say this if you make money already let’s say u make money off social media and day trading. You probably can generate anywhere from 5k-15k a month. That’s the only way I would take a gear deal.

    Not sure if I've heard the term gear contract, but I've heard of brands sponsoring an outfit with gear.
    So I'm assuming the athletes sign the dotted line for the gear contract?
    But can't this type of contract work against the athlete? The sponsoring company thinks they have you, so they might not go above and beyond to keep you when you start doing good?

    • @FitzDunk
      @FitzDunk  Год назад +1

      The difference is that with the gear contract there’s a possibility for financial incentive if the athlete hit certain marks, depending on their event. This contract benefits the company more yes but there is a chance to renegotiate at another point if the athlete shows consistency

      @@FitzDunk how long is a gear contract typically? Athletes aren't signing multiyear gear contracts, are they?

    In the future when I get this opportunity If there is no other brand offering me a deal with money I am going take the gear contract. But it just goes to show there is always another level I gotta work above. I gotta be uncommon amongst the uncommon.

      I get where you coming from, one of my main points was that people do sign these deals with intentions of putting themselves in better positions in the long run so it’s understandable especially when your young

    Track and field seems to be like skateboarding. many athletes put their body through hell for a result and would literally do anything to achieve it. even if that means getting exploited by companies that can definitely afford not to smh. wish things were different

    • @FitzDunk
      @FitzDunk  Год назад

      Unfortunately this is true, the people who do track love it like myself and look pass some things that they probably shouldn’t have. Athletes shouldn’t have to choose between making a living and doing what they love

  • @JeeGo-Aries-King

    why is Track & Field so private or secretive ... even the athletes, they try so hard to be normal citizens and avoid the spotlight. They don't cross-date or socialize in the celeb world to transcend their sport 🤔

    • @FitzDunk
      @FitzDunk  Год назад +1

      Trust me it’s not by choice, the biggest stars in the sport don’t get marketing properly and people don’t know they exists! If people would see them more on ESPN there would be less belief that they are secretive
