A great project, and well worth any amount of time and elbow grease! Nice tip top machines that are complete with good wheels, are bringing close to 400.00 As with lots of machines....the just don't make them like they used to! FWIW ....that particular sander/grinder was the original 1 x 42 made by Mead. It is the original that most other manufacturers copied. In regard to your comment about the different belt configurations, the "straight up" configuration is used for setting up the machine to do interior sanding or grinding .... such as smoothing out the inside of a scissors thumb hole, in a rough casting. The lower rear 2" idler wheel is moved to the post that is directly about the drive wheel, as the rear location is not used with the interior setup. Most any of the 1x42 sander instructions, will show the correct routing, however it needs to be done along with using the idler arm with the add'l 2" wheel and the platen. I sell replacement wheels for the Delta Rockwell version, and although they differ a bit as far as axle sizes, they can be also be adapted to fit on your machine, as well as the Dayton, Foley Belsaw, and Craftsman models. To do heavy removal of metal....I would advise using a 3/4 hp motor.
Hi Jim, thanks for the info. I get lots of inquiries as to the model, it will be nice to tell them it is a Mead. This machine has been great, I just recently picked up a 1x42 Kalmazoo, which has a little more power than this one, but not as versatility, as you described. If I get anyone asking about parts i'll be happy to point them your way. Cheers.
Thanks for researching this I bought a Rockwell model 31-325 it's old and so far I have only seen a few on RUclips but they have 3 pullies but mine has 2 pullies and made me concerned.
Hi nice video can’t get those sanders in the uk so I’m going to try building one please could you tell me the width of the back upright posture looks about 2”wide thanks from uk john
2” sounds right. Ill follow up, if that is incorrect. Mr. Pete (a.k.a. Tublecane) does an excellent series on this same Mead sander. It is worth watching. Cheers

Jim Liechty - I have the Delta Rockwell version of this grinder. How can I contact you to order replacement wheels?
Jim Liechty I also need replacement wheels for my Rockwell. How do I get in touch with you?
Wow! Joe! You are going all out on this one!!! I thought it was just going to be a motor swap!! Nice!!! Looking forward to part 2!
It has been a great machine, and it shows up in my videos frequently, so I figure I should go the extra mile and clean it up a little.
Great project. Looking forward to seeing part 2.
