  • This was pretty groundbreaking material for the 80's with Steven dealing with a homophobic workplace and coming out to his boss. Older boss Walter Lankershim played by Dale Robertson recently passed away.

Season 1 was ahead of its time, it showed blue collar workers being okay with Steven being gay

Boy, oh boy, if this guy is supposed to be gay, then I sure don't want to claim him as a member of OUR community! Here this guy is trying to stick up for him, and he just stands there and does NOTHINIG and then walks out!?!? I'll refrain from name-calling, but he SURE does not measure up to the gay men in MY community; he's WEAK.

Steven was the quiet, sensitive lover-not-a-fighter type. He probably went back in and cleaned up the mess the breeders made...

You have to remember this is the early 80s, homosexuality wasn't accepted as much back then, even if someone was defending you it wasn't seen as something to be proud of.

His boss told him to step out and cool off. He was raring to go toe-to-toe with the other guy. He's not weak, he's just a good employee. And what about all the other guys just standing around?
