what are all those fish doing in the same place. Has to be a chum bucket somewhere. No surprise the shark showed up. It was just bigger than all the other fish
Sharks can be fed safely but clearly this operation had no idea what they were doing. Look at the positioning of the bait box and the current... The current is sweeping over the bait box bringing the scent in between the shark and the divers. VERY bad idea. Currents are extremely important when feeding sharks in the wild. The poor shark is confused!
Glad the diver took decisive action to fight off the attacking shark. That is a pretty big tiger shark... However even more importantly is to be more responsible and not do things that endanger Diver tourists
Sharks generally attack from below, so laying on a surface reduces almost all shark attacks. BTW, this video isn't an attack, just a curious animal checking these folks out.
Well HopSing, I did dive for many years but I didn't temp sharks. Even with multiple divers down they can be obstinate and there are few things, other than maybe a hard bite from a moray, that can ruin a dive any quicker than a shark bite.

I've been on shark dives before - so I can't claim to have never done this......but I really think these kinds of dives are actually kind of stupid. Not only is it ethically questionable AT BEST (and trust me I get the economic argument that a shark is worth more alive so it can be appreciated than if it was a victim of over-fishing...yeah, got it) - I would just rather encounter a shark without it being baited in and if I get a cool photograph.....great. But having to huddle together with a bunch of divers and then the dive-masters have to basically play lifeguard.....it's just dumb. I'd rather get an extra wreck dive or a black sandy macro heavy muck dive instead of something like this. Just my 2 cents.
I just think this is a bad setup. If I am correct then they have bait in that closed box to lure the sharks in. They therefore agitate the sharks who come to eat. The shark obviously didn't outright attack but was more likely irritated and confused. He turned away form the first diver despite that one having no protection whatsoever. The shark then was "distracted" by the pole with the loop touching his snout out of sight. It probably was a reflex that made him nibble in that direction to check what had touched him. That brought the shark off course and as sharks can not stop immediately and can not swim backwards he accidently swam into the diver at the reef. And again his reflex kicks in and he starts nibbling to check what he had encountered. Basically a man provoked test nibbling...
The main issue here is eye contact. Sharks are ambush predators. If you are continuously scanning you minimize the risk. At least that’s what Ocean Ramsey teaches.
This is how u act in a moment such as this. Everyone remained calm, quiet and worked as team to get the shark uninterested in diver. No screams and flailing no panic. In a crisis, remain calm. Be logical work out the steps to solve problem. It may seem like your are wasting time but in actuality you are saving life and limb. Freaking out helps no one. If situation escalates, then keep right on solving a means to save life.
According to the shark diver videos I've seen, you're supposed to turn, position vertically and face the shark, stay still and then redirect it. What you don't do it lie down or splash as you swim as that looks like prey, yet here are loads of people all lying down, with masses of air bubbles all over thd place that surely look like splashing. This looks like its asking for trouble to me, even from an untrained eye.
Wow that was crazy. That guy was like oh hell no!! He pushed that shark like no fear lol. I'm sure he was scared but awesome!! He's someone you want with you at all times down there!!

These sharks are APEX predators. They are much stronger than us and are most importantly unpredictable. They are NOT entertainment, they do this to survive. They see you as food not guests. Like what the hell do you expect to happen? All feeding and treating animals as entertainment needs to be stopped.
they not apex predator. Apex means , something in its environment that can’t be hunted by another animal. Like a Orca , Jaguar , Lion , Bear, Crocodiles, its a predator without natural predators. Shark has a natural predator = The Orca.

Anyway I wish you a very very happy life, and hope you didn't take anything to heart, good luck.

Those divers recognized very quickly the danger they were in...and still charged into and tried to fight off a 15 foot 1500 lb predator! Kudos to these guys!

I used to DiveMaster Japanese tourists on fun dives in Guam . This is a practice that hopefully has stopped . Shark was being quite polite
i dont think this will stop
Never dived in Guam but did a few dives in Saipan. Didnt see any sharks sadly but I agree this practice is very risky.
@@domlipski5226 , The shark population is quite limited around Guam. A few Reef Whitetips, and a very occasional Grey reef, and then those few are seen only at night, so no sharks available for shark encounter dives there. I was really commenting on the Japanese diver tourists, as I really enjoyed their culture and attitudes. Adding curious sharks to our dives would have been very interesting I’m sure.😎
@@michaeltaylors2456 Ye the Japanese are great to deal with, Koreans are pretty pleasant too. Great diving culture on the CNMI, would love to go back.
Whoever was shark spotting should have been a teeny more diligent. Literally all of them had their backs to the shark. Glad the diver acted quickly.
It amazes me that everyone in the comments is praising the guides and saying how brave they are, even though this incident is their fault. These people are not well trained and have only made mistakes.
You need to change the title as this is not an ‘attack’. If the shark actually attacked you would have a severely injured/dead diver.
so??? suggestion
@@stevenwood4water suggestion: change the fucking title.
That was a big Tiger. Seems like everyone handled it well. You have to know that you're in their world and anything can happen.

Churchill climate change is a natural process, man-made multifaceted and accelerating climate change is not a natural process, understand the difference?
I was hoping the shark would score a leg or two. 😂 Better luck next time Sharky!! 🦈

PR: "We hardly see a shark interested in people. Probably one for every 25000 divers."
Shark: "1... 2... 3... F it! 25000."
lol
Funny thing is, sharks really can count because they can tell when they outnumber you. Speaking from experience as a spearo
Great job having absolutely zero situational awareness while swimming with sharks by those people. The shark was laying on top of them before they even noticed
wow - was this Beqa Lagoon Resort? I did this dive twice just a month ago... thank god I didn't check these videos out beforehand lol....
I'm doing this dive in November :>
I did it in 2006
@@shumkis Great! you'll love it and you'll love the place. Beqa Lagoon Resrot is one of my favourite places, even if you are not diving! Lovely people and lovely place. Oh and the sharks are great too!
@@davesherry5384 I stayed in Lautoka, so it was 3 hour drive to get to Pacific harbour. But it was a nice drive, saw a lot of beautifull places. Dive was amazing, wasn't scary at all. Though no tiger sharks were there, only bullsharks but it was amaizing nevertheless.
hope they learned and improved
I think the shark was more astonished by that last diver that pushed him under his belly. Nobody has ever touched him in that soft spot before. Poor thing must be impressed but very confused now.
OMG... that is a MONSTER!!!!!! I would NEVER EVER dive in murky waters like that!!!
actually water no that bad
Trust me. That water is not murky at all.
Go swim in Crocs territory, and see murky.
Done shark dives before. Never saw such a large tiger. Beautiful!
dive more.. u will see her
This dive looks deep enough to require an open water certification at least, disappointed seeing so many be oblivious to the situation happening right next to them.
there are about 20meter plus
Open Water certification is the most basic level of certification. It is not an advanced level.
You can’t scuba dive at all without an open water certification lmao. Why do people talk about stuff they aren’t informed about? Narcissism is such a problem these days
@@charlesg7926 Money !!!!!!!!!!!
@@charlesg7926 sorry bro, but I don’t think Fiji cares about a certification. My wife and I were in Fiji about 10 years ago, I’m PADI certified, my wife is not and had never been diving till the day we went in Fiji. She did training in the resort pool for about 20 minutes and then they took us out on a boat to go diving. We went down to about 60 feet and I couldn’t believe they allowed it. It was nothing like this though, it was us and two dive instructors. Blew my mind!
For those who are unaware... the ocean contains big fish
kudos to the very brave safety diver who used his bare arms to push away the tiger shark.. the shark could just easily turn around and bit his arm off. Call beyond his duty/job 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
Yes, really thank to them
Yeah, if he wasn’t there that shark would have more than likely had one of them for lunch
An experienced guide takes all divers home in one piece. Great work
So true!
I am not surprised, tiger was absolutely confused by vibrations, voices and a huge amount of bubbles... so many people on one place, very sad for sharks.... but also very brave and cold reaction by that guy, definitely saved divers lives, STOP TO FEED SHARKS!
Great point
what are all those fish doing in the same place. Has to be a chum bucket somewhere. No surprise the shark showed up. It was just bigger than all the other fish
this site is build for feeding many years, shark know it
Sharks can be fed safely but clearly this operation had no idea what they were doing. Look at the positioning of the bait box and the current... The current is sweeping over the bait box bringing the scent in between the shark and the divers. VERY bad idea. Currents are extremely important when feeding sharks in the wild. The poor shark is confused!
ya, everyone smell like tuna head
You think someone would be paying attention, like everyone. the tiger did kinda stroll in and say 👋.
Glad the diver took decisive action to fight off the attacking shark. That is a pretty big tiger shark... However even more importantly is to be more responsible and not do things that endanger Diver tourists
hope guide maintain this great job
@@stevenwood4water Great job? It should have never happened to begin with.
First, not me
Second, the shark would have had a hard finding me in my brown ink cloud
You guys are brave
XD
brown ink cloud..lol
why are they sitting on the ground? I have learned to not touch anything on a diving trip.
but shark come and touch
Sharks generally attack from below, so laying on a surface reduces almost all shark attacks. BTW, this video isn't an attack, just a curious animal checking these folks out.
@@frankwmyers Yes, but they are damaging the sorroundings.
What's in the box on the bottom ?
I cannot imagine just what those divers thought they were doing?
maybe u shall join them next time
Well HopSing, I did dive for many years but I didn't temp sharks. Even with multiple divers down they can be obstinate and there are few things, other than maybe a hard bite from a moray, that can ruin a dive any quicker than a shark bite.
Lol the shark was like hold on guys who gave y'all access to the parking garage I need to see some credentials🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
You're in the Ocean and clearly forget that humans are very much prey as and when required. I hope the shark wasn't killed for doing what it does naturally.
dont worry she still there

why arm ?? nothing about arm in this video ...
Basically a man provoked test nibbling...
correct.... few mistake can be found here
If you go down there to watch sharks being sharks, don't be too surprised when they start being sharks.
human being human

Was this by any chance off the Naia Dive boat in Fiji? I've been there twice. What a great time that was.

The main issue here is eye contact. Sharks are ambush predators. If you are continuously scanning you minimize the risk. At least that’s what Ocean Ramsey teaches.
when there is more than 1...... split your eyes
The blatant disregard for these amazing creatures, all for instagram or whatever, is disgusting!!
If situation escalates, then keep right on solving a means to save life.
true, dont panic

What happened? Did they survive? I can't believe the size of it. Niuhi.
As any child would ask, "What did they think was going to happen ?"

Sits bybait box, shocked shark sees you as food....
shark see them as food keeper ...

I’ve met dozens of sharks over the years diving. He was just saying hello in the language of his people.
What was the injury outcome. Looks like he didn’t lose his hand? Which is amazing. A tiger taking a limb is like us biting a banana
Manage to keep the head
The shark just wanted to join in and see what everyone else was looking at, then gets ostracised for being different.
What were the injuries sustained by the person attacked? I am surprised they didn't have any shark sticks other than the non-lethal poking sticks.

These sharks are APEX predators. They are much stronger than us and are most importantly unpredictable. They are NOT entertainment, they do this to survive. They see you as food not guests. Like what the hell do you expect to happen? All feeding and treating animals as entertainment needs to be stopped.
They are not the apex Predators of the seas
clap clap
they not apex predator. Apex means , something in its environment that can’t be hunted by another animal. Like a Orca , Jaguar , Lion , Bear, Crocodiles, its a predator without natural predators. Shark has a natural predator = The Orca.
Shark attack? Where? I don't see a Shark Attack? There is however a diver attacking a shark that is nosing around the diver parade.
