These Psas and about 7 or 8 others were part of a larger compilation film put together by The US Department of Transportation titled "Drink Drive Rationalize". I'm sure most of you folks who took their driver's ed classes in the 70's and 80's remember that film. For those that don't it was divided up into short segments like these ads that showed various drunk drivers all giving a number of different we'll worn excuses as to why they can drive drunk. "I drive better when I'm drunk. (That's what YOU think! The guy you just ran over might have a slightly different opinion!) I can handle my liquor. (Is that why you're handling your car like a drunken jackass?) I was only drinking beer. (A 12 ounce can or glass of beer has one ounce of alcohol-the same amount as as any standard glass of wine or a shot of liquor.). I can drink as much as the big guys even though I'm little. (Sorry to say, short people, but the shorter you are, the faster the alcohol gets into your bloodstream.) I can sober up fast with black coffee or a cold shower. (Don't be ridiculous! The only thing that can sober you up is time!) I was eating while I was drinking, and food soaks up the alcohol. (It doesn't.). I waited at least a half hour before driving (It takes at least an hour per ounce of alcohol for your body to sober up, so if you have 4 ounces of alcohol that's at least 4 hours before you can drive.)." Anyways, you get the idea. And each segment would always end with somebody sarcastically saying to the drunk driver, "Sure, Mac, sure!" You can probay find the whole film here on RUclips, if it hasn't been taken down. It's a good film, if you get a chance to see it, check it out! It's funny, and it gets the point across without showing any gory accidents or boring details and statistics! Thanks for posting these great Psas!

Sorry, when I said The US Department of Transportation I meant to say the AAA foundation for Traffic Safety. They put out the film and these ads.

The 2nd one had a point... but also wrong. The average person burns 13 grams of alcohol an hour, that is roughly one 355 ml/12 oz can of 5.0% beer. So if someone had been drinking 6 or 7 drinks in 2 hours then waited another 45 minutes they would still have too much alcohol in their system.
Then there's the sedative effect of alcohol that makes things even worse.

The drunk was played by the same actor who played Charley the Bartender on The Jeffersons.
