- Can Vaseline be used to treat Acne? Is this another TikTok skincare trend we should be paying attention to?
The latest trend on Tiktok also known as 'slugging', involves slathering your face with Vaseline, also known as petroleum jelly, right before bed with the goal of waking up to radiant, soft, glowy skin. But does it really help improve acne? or could it end up clogging the pores even more than it did before? In this video, Dr. Chiam reacts to the slugging trend that has been taking TikTok by storm.

I'm the creator of the video and Vaseline did help me to heal my skin, I must mention I was also using retinoids
My cousin uses Vaseline as well. She's never been acne prone & her skin is absolutely beautiful! Your skin looks amazing!
Yeah it depends on the skin type 😊

yes it is oil based but it is non comedogenic so it wont clog your pores, and is suitable for all skin types including acne prone.
Not for all skin type l have 3 to 4 acne and l used vastline and got comlogenic acne in my hole face
It is comedogenic 😂
@@winhong286it's not. The molecules are too big to be absorbed by the skin.

I have a oily skin type. I have been using Vaseline every night on my face (not using any moisturizer at night) since 4 days and my skin has become so soft. I can't stop touching it. I don't have acne and I don't think Vaseline is going to make me acne prone. I use it only at night.
PS- Vaseline is so underrated.
Do you directly use Vaseline after cleansing??
@@lilheart001 NO! I do my skincare and in the end I apply vaseline. However, if you're using a moisturiser don't apply vaseline because it will be too much for the skin and your skin might have breakouts. Use either moisturizer or vaseline at NIGHT.
Your skin becoming soft in no way represents it being healthy lmao. What you're feeling is the many layers of Vaseline on your skin...it's non water soluble. What you are doing when putting Vaseline on your face is essentially smooshing chapstick all over you, or covering your face with plastic wrap. It's trapping your skin and preventing moisture from leaving, as well as anything else trapped there. Your skin is likely begging for an actual moisturizer as I'm sure all those layers have clogged up your skin long enough for it to start cracking up once you go too long without reapplying. Please for the love of your own health use a product meant for acne not a product meant for layer protection.
@@tortellinifettuccinewhered you get that info
I also have oily acne prone skin i am thinking to use it should i go ahead?
Sorry to disappoint you doc but I been using it for 1 week now and my acne cleared … tried so many products which made my face worse. Only Vaseline helped. Ps: I don’t have a oily skin… mine is rather dry
Really true same issue tha mra b n my skin is dry lkn acne issue Vaseline sy khtm hogya
1100000% true
Actually petroleum jelly is good for dry to sensitive skin👍🏻
Then you probably had barrier irritation. Not actual acne. Vasiline doesn't help acne
He is scared they won't get any more appointments
I'm scared to put Vaseline on my face...
But I tried and for months now it didn't break me out... I'm amazed with the result it makes my face soft and acne free...
So acne prone skin can use it ?
@@shreyagadge9276 yeah and in some cases it can help, every time I slug my skin is better and I have acne prone skin
What other products you use?
I have combination skin, and I used it last night and woke up with 3 new pimples 😭 should I continue it for some days? Will there be good results?
Maybe try cleansing ur face and then aply only a Little? @@Dark.in.disguise
Doc, you need to swot up on the healing power of Petroleum jelly. Vaseline helps to accelerate the repair of skin cells. that's why cuts heal so quickly. Vaseline also helps your skin to look younger and glow with a smoother texture as it pulls the blood towards the surface. $200 please
I’ve been using Vaseline on my face at night after my skincare for quite a while now and my skin has gotten so much more soft and I feel like a lot of my acne and acne scars have gone away, and I have really sensitive acne prone skin 🤷♀️
Stop confusing people 🤕
yall it helps me. the vaseline works but you have to apply moisturizer first and wait til it dries and then put the vaseline on top of ur face
You are correct the Vaseline forms a barrier to keep germs out and also locks in moisture from your moisturiser therefore making your moisturiser work a lot better.
I started using Vaseline ony face like a month now. The results is like magic, everyone around me is what im using on my face... And my face became so smooth and soft... I can't stop using it for now
Chemistry speaking there’s a huge difference between oil based and wax based product. Technically Vaseline is a WAX based product and many got the wrong idea that petroleum jelly is comedogenic.
It works by trapping EVERYTHING underneath the skin including dirt and moisture. So naturally if you have a poor cleansing habit or less thorough cleansing in the shower, it traps the dirt or whatever residue that’s making your skin prone to acne.
Guy just said "i think"😂
It’s been the best thing for my skin, it’s not always used the right way but when it is it’s incredibly beneficial and doesn’t cause acne (can cause milia around eyes if over used tho)
"It's not always used the right way" yeah by people like you. It is not for skincare, stop using it as such. It's not a moisturizer, it's not for anything regarding skin health. Think of it as jellified chapstick. It exists to place a protective non-soluble layer on things, whether that be skin or whatever else. All you're doing is giving yourself the illusion of moisture and healthy skin because all it's doing is trapping all that moisture under your skin and preventing anything from entering or leaving. So yes the skin may apear bright and soft, but that dosent mean it's healthy. Skin also appears bright and soft when you rub butter on it...the fat/oils helps. It exists to be used like chapstick for example, or as multiple layers on the hands for a chef for example for heat protection.
@@tortellinifettuccine I use a non scented lotion first because believe it or not I do know it’s not a moisturizer. I do know what petroleum jelly is lol. I don’t use it every day either, I use it a few times a week at night to keep the moisture in while I sleep which helps repair the skin barrier and has helped a lot with repairing my dry skin and acne scars. It also helps keep dirt and stuff out while you’re tossing and turning in your sleep then you wash it off in the morning. I’m not saying it makes my skin look moist it literally helped my skin heal. Not sure if your a dermatologist idk where you got your info but my dermatologist recommend it as well so idk what your on.
@@tortellinifettuccine it’s for your skin is it not though? It’s sold to put on you skin Is that not technically skin care?
Vaseline locks in moisture drink lots of water and apply Vaseline to for face everyday it will help a lot make sure you using 100% white petroleum
It dosent lock in moisture in traps in moisture. It is in no way good for your skin even if it appears "soft and bright" doing that with anything with fat and oils in it will do that.
I’ve used this since the 90s I never had any issues using it. I guess it depends on your skin type
Me using Vaseline for moisturiser on my hands💀
Well it does help tho ( also on feet )
I'm not sure about this, but I use Vaseline for two-three days, my acne are almost gone all 😅
Keep going!
This book was an absolute atrocity, a crime against humanity, but you are HYSTERICAL!!! Absolutely a new favorite booktuber!!!
Remember NOT EVERYONE can tolerate with this 'slugging' method unless you try, because im oily acne prone and long behold my skin clogged and now im dealing with clogged skin and many tiny white head pop out...
I have oily acne prone skin, so if u have dry skin this could actually work great for u. Personally this made me break out more and clogges my pores
Same here i suddenly get so many white heads
This is all we used as kids growing up . . . And it worked perfectly well . . .
I have very oily skin and I’m acne prone but I decided to try it and it cleared my face so much and I no longer have redness or acne anymore but for a few minor spots
Do you use any skincare products before using Vaseline? Or just cleanse your face and use it ?
Nah,her nails is bacteria's party hot spot.
Dok vaseline is good to other people ❤
My skin is dry and sensitive ..Can i use vasline as a moisturizer? Also will it not clog my pores?
It won’t clog your pores. Most of what this guy said is flat out not true. It’ll work very well for your skin
Vaseline traps in moisture so not really a moisturiser maybe apply moisturiser first then vaseline but u can still do vaseline it might work extremely well on your face!(depending on what skin type you have)❤
I usually apply mask first. After that I will put on Vaseline to lock the moisture
A simple... Yes. I am 45--very dry skin, and very sensitive skin (eczema--as a kid, but started on my face as a teen, even though derm said I'd grow out of it). I put it on right out of the shower. I have to admit... I do have very nice skin for someone in their 40's. I started doing this on my own as a teen.
I have extremely dry skin , i apple vasline at night 3 times a week , especially when I am about to have a breakout and it heals all the breakouts in my skin ..but it does highlight texture..so don't use it before makeup ..plus it will restore your barrier and your sencetive skin will heal fast ❤
So, vasaline users, Guys so i have mild acne bur acne scars and sensitive skin, do you think the scars and acne will go away if i use Vaseline?
It will heal the upcoming acne , like if you are having breakouts it will prevent all of that , for healing acne I don't think so ..but I have same skin texture as you , and not doing any skin care just not even using moisturizer fixed my acne I just washed my face and nothing.. although I don't know what to do for scars 😅.. anyways if you want to treat your acne , trying doing zero skin care and leave the skin dry .. atleast that's what worked for me ❤
@@onewe6284 thanks I've been using vasaline for 2 months since this was posted and i kid you not my skin has already cleared up completely and the scars are mostly gone on one side so I'd say it works 😊 tho I still get breakouts sometimes ofcourse no one has perfect skin
I’ve used Vaseline for years and never had acne problems.
I have acne problems and my Aunt told me that Vaseline is good to use for it but I noticed that it only made my acne worst so I stopped using it.
How much days did you use it for? I used it last night and woke up with 3 new pimples, should I use it for some days or leave it
@@Dark.in.disguise Not sure if there's a proper way of using it but I apply Vaseline every night.
Also, I heard that when you have serious oily face and acne problems you should not use Vaseline.
Tho, my pimples are gone now.
And believe me of not but I only used "Give" soap.
Nothing more.
I lost hope of fighting my acne's so I just let it be and only used that soap.
It's like a miracle
Hi. Aren't emollient and moisturizer the same thing in their mode of action?
Moisturiser provides your skin with water. An emollient keeps water from escaping from your pores.
Emollients are oils that lubricate the edges of the skin cells and make them smooth. Then we have occlusives that are waxy that forms a barrier to prevent water loss from the skin, like petrolatum, and also we have humectants that attract water, like glycerin. Petroleum jelly is an occlusive. Moisturisers are a combinations of those things, usually occlusives + humectants or all of them.
Nice way to say...skin going to be a mess...ugh I know cause I tried the vaseline thing and my face got worse
@@profmj7630 not advisable if you have oily skin.
Is petroleum good for health ??
I have been using vasaline for about a decade and I have an oily and very sweaty face. In my experience when i use vasaline overnight the next morning i feel some new acne comes out, but when i remove those acne and for the rest of the week I don't see any new acne. I think for some time it feels like more acne but the rest of the day skin feels smooth and hydrated.
My skin type is normal but i have small pimples on my face is it good to use and will it make my skin bright or dull
Please tell me
It's good
after using vaseline on my face, my skin has never been better. so smooth, shiny, soft, clear. not going to harm anything, its just petroleum
Lmao oh boy I wonder how that went
Everyone is talking about vaseline.but i am watching that how she applied vaseline with his long nail.😅
But my korean friends do the same😅😅😅so i dunno
I knew a lot of people have had their acne gone worse
If you do this remember to change your pillowcases really frequently my dudes and dudettes
But isnt it used to seal in the nightly skin care? This is what I interpreted as slugging ...
Yeah. This did not work for me. Vaseline clogs my pores and gives me pimples
Vaseline does not clog your pores,
I have combination skin and my pores easily get clogged should i slug with a heavier moisturiser
no. Vaseline is very very very good for acne, Vaseline works really good for things but for acne it works best! I use it as a nighttime face mask but if you’re going to do this make sure not to put it around your eyes! And also the one I’m using is the healing jelly❤
But guys I see tiny bumps on my forehead and small tiny red acne on my chicks after using Vaseline on my face but I like Vaseline so I'm confused now
No it worked the best than all those year of dermatologist treatment
No it clear up my acne and dark circles under my eyes after one months. I actually use aquaphor which has the same major ingredient
I apply vaseline on the pimple I get, like a spot treatment and it litreally vanishes in like 2 days without scar
What if I had acne but dry skin?
How about what. Help for the pores
👀👀 but it does help!
Just 1hour befor there was a shorts of telling Vaseline is the gamechanger of skincare and now telling it's worst to put on face.... should I buy Vaseline or not now....😭😭
They are not wrong but it depends on ur skin
Of course people have been using Vaseline for years .
Ofc it will help you like god
Not for all skin type l have 3 to 4 acne and l used vastline and got comlogenic acne in my hole face

Romans 5:8❤
Not true
🙈
My skin is oily can i use vaseline for my pimple???
Sem ?
I'm oily too but I only use around the eyes(there's less pores around the eyes)..anywhere else will lead to clogged pores and acne- it will be too much oil on skin and the vaseline will trap all the oil in the pores and when it dries it comes white/blackheads- very unpleasant. it is only good for dry areas
Don't use that I'll suggest you to use products like benzoyl peroxide and salacylic acid 👍🏼🗿
I also have oily skin and acne scar, and have been using for 4 days and the scar is reducing ❤
i also have oily skin I feel like it’s gon make me look greasy and clog my pores
False.
