    Hi Dave and thanks! On the next model I may incorporate a manual operation but I prefer the remote activation for better placement options at venues. I think I spent about $400 dollars on this project including a some errors along the way. The seam is not sealed at all...When I attempted to seal it with two different types of small weather stripping it made the leaks worse. The "blow out" seen on test (1) was a small wood baffle blocking the upper lid area from the output spout. No blower needed

      Try Picking the basket up,if pressure builds too quickly,should slow the reaction to acceptable levels

    OK this guy is definitely smarter than me but my only question is do with heating elements and plastic work that well together?

    • @mightyquinn5135
      @mightyquinn5135 10 месяцев назад

      That's something I was thinking. Also wondering how he regulates the tempature. How hot does the water need to be and could it overheat? Can the water melt the plastic? Was also thinking how the heating element reminds of of the stingers inmates use to boil water.

  • @mightyquinn5135

    Looks really comparable to nimbus but still at $400 thats not exactly cheap. Im wondering how you regulates the tempature? How hot does the water need to be and could it overheat? Can the water or heating elements melt the plastic? Was also thinking how the heating element reminds of the stingers inmates use to boil water. They do it with no budget but obvious this a different level

  • @DJCONSCIENTIOUS

    About 8-10 Gallons of water and 10 pounds of dry ice. The dry ice pellets give the best effect but the blocks are a little more accessible in my area so I have to crack them into small chunks.

    Unfortunately as with most of my projects the plans are in my head but the item list is above. If you are pretty handy with tools it's really not that difficult. I will try sometime in the future to sit down and list the plans. Feel free to msg me for any specific questions : )

    outstanding job
    Any plans to make the non-remote control unit...would prefer to have less moving parts capable of failure! Total cost of your unit is half of Nimbus..or Nim Jr??
    what did you do to seam to tighten it? Is the fog being propelled by the blower...or seeping out? I see the two plugs for the heaters, will you connect them to make one?
    CAn you show the top and flip over so we can see battery setup and seal
    Maybe a vid of the assembly!
    thanks much

  • @DJCONSCIENTIOUS
    @DJCONSCIENTIOUS  11 лет назад

    With near boiling water you get at least 3 minutes of full force output and about another 3 minutes of decreasing effect. I believe the nimbus machine has very similar specs.

    Seems like an 'easier' way would be to design a static basket with a water pump that brings the water up and over the ice on Que. Less need for the mechanical basket mechanism, and could also be easily DMX controlled.

    What wattage and specks are your kettle heating components? ?? I want to make sure my water is hot enough

    • @DJCONSCIENTIOUS
      @DJCONSCIENTIOUS  9 лет назад

      Jehu Melchor The kettle elements were 1000 watts 120v. The water should be at least 65C /150 F no more than 76C / 170F. Having more than one element allows you to heat the water faster but is not mandatory. You may use only one element actually.

    Great vid. Like what someone else said, it is the best DIY model out there.
    I'm trying to build my own dry ice fogger, but I'm running into some issues and I'd like to ask for some info about your model and hopefully it'll help mine.
    1) How big is your basket? (I mean size measurements)
    2) How much of the basket is submerged in water when it is lowered?
    I think that my basket is too small and only a portion of the dry ice is getting exposed to the hot water so there isn't a lot of pressure and the output isn't that great. Any tips would be greatly appreciated!

    • @DJCONSCIENTIOUS
      @DJCONSCIENTIOUS  9 лет назад

      Hi Merlin the basket is about 9 inches diameter and 8 inches high. About 3/4 of the basket is submerged.

    Nice work, bro! Could you email me specs for remote, actuators, and elements? Also, I'm curious as to what you would do with any remaining dry ice after use? Just leave it until the event is over or pack it back into a cooler somehow?

    • @DJCONSCIENTIOUS

      its best to just let it melt. It becomes a solid mass once submerged in water.

    • @DJCONSCIENTIOUS
      @DJCONSCIENTIOUS  7 лет назад

      You would need to have a constant hot water and dry ice supply. The problem is once the ice hits the water the water temperature will drop instantly.

    • @m16ty
      @m16ty 4 года назад

      To make it go for a long time, you are going to have to upgrade to a 55 gallon barrel machine with a 220v hot water heater element. And lots of dry ice.

      +btmoney21 No there is no fan. The fog is released by the pressure from sublimation reaction.

    I know this is an old video but Im working on this project and I need some help. Did you used thermostats on the water heater elements or are they not necessary and connected straight? Thanks !!!

    • @m16ty
      @m16ty 4 года назад

      I just got done building 2 of them from 55 gallon plastic barrels, for our local theater. We just drilled a hole near the bottom and installed a hot water heater element. We didn't run a thermostat, just wired straight, but kept a eye on it. Each barrel holds about 15 gallons of water, and it seems like the element will get the water to around 150 deg or so and pretty much hold there. Running both units, we can cover a 50' x 30' stage for around 5 minutes, using around 25 lbs of pellet dry ice. We have found that the pellets work twice as well as block ice (even if you crush the block).
