Theory: The city is actually a prison settlement and all the regular citizens are actually violent criminals. This would make for a hell of a plot twist.
Her worries seemed valid...and it seems like there is only one curriculum, and nothing else...what if a Guardian wishes to stay away from battles, and be a full time healer...I think she might have done fine in that aspect.
@Argon1337 oh i'm not saying her worries weren't valid i'm saying they sorta made fun of her for panicking and having these concerns in the first place.
It's not a well thought out show in general. The entire project seemed to be geared towards filling their creative staff out with women. Not women who are good at what they do, just any women. If you diversify, you get people that are diverse and QUALIFIED.
Oh dont worry, that fits right in line with these type of people and their thought process of sacrificing the young for the older generation! Marxism is a hell of an illness.
Are you saying this show would have been better if the characters were young adults and it was a military academy? Because that would make a lot of subjects easier to approach and let them go on more dangerous adventures.

Somebody: ok, that's cool, but why are all these children happily and willingly walking to their deaths? Why does this test even exist? Surely you should at least acknowledge how some people would be rightly nervous? The writers: hmm, you're right, but we need to justify this stupid test, and we can't have one of our main cast have any doubts because that would cause character growth... I know, let's make NPC no. 12 have a panic attack, make FUN of her for having said panic attack, call her a COWARD for having said panic attack or questioning the system, have none of her class mates or teachers comfort her, then purposely give her lines of dialogue that villainies her by making her seem self centered for not wanting to risk her life, AND have nobody go after her to make sure she's ok! @@CyberPunkBadGuy You have perfectly put my feelings about the situation into words - honestly the line 'gaslighting and manipluting is what they do for a living' is so good I kinda want it on a shirt lol
She´s questioning the system, so she´d bad. You can´t subconsciously program a young generation of NPC citizens if you don´t shame characters like this one. Also, you have to erase empathy because the NPC citizens have to be unable to help each other because this would make them less dependent on the system. This show is Orwell level of disturbing.
There's a difference between bravery and recklessness. Bravery is when you know the risks but persevere, recklessness is when you shame others for voicing concerns and believe nothing can hurt you.
On top of that but apparently this is their first test, the school throws these kids into deadly situations with little to zero training then calls the nervous girl cowardly for making a good point.

"I like being surprised" "I like being prepared" "I like being somewhere else right now" Great job on the writing guys, everyone knows the best way to show your audience what the characters are thinking is to have them blankly stare ahead and just say it.
They are trying too hard to promote being different with the main characters. This raises issues with the plot, as so many characters don’t act like normal that when a normal reasonable person shows up they look like total outcasts.
What bothers me in this scene is that it doesn't take the girl seriously when she was clearly having a panic attack. If this was real life, the teachers need to take full responsibility on her health before they can continue. :/ I would want her to pass too, so I would definitely help her and give her some confidence. It doesn't help when nobody is helping her in this scene while she was clearly hyperventilating.
She is also the only one with some common sense and questions the safety and purpose of the life-threatening test. Common sense is forbiden in totalitarian regimes.
@@Mysikrysa But wait! You see, she’s a cis-white blonde girl and says some cliched line only selfish cowards would say, so therefore it’s a-okay to make fun of her! 🥸👌
How to make this scene better: Instead of Blonde girl running away and instead of the having levels she goes in with the rest of the cast and the scrolls only have a few locations marked but only a few people can get the "magical healing water" Those that fail to get it, get dropped from the academy for the year. The Blonde girl goes in first, then the rest. (She goes in first because it's the teachers idea of "instilling courage") When the cast go inside, they hear her scream and rush to find her bleeding against the wall as she was attacked by a monster, and the wound leaves her incapacitated. Now the characters are left with a choice: Leave her for dead because nobody is allowed to leave the cave (immediate failure) Or save her life at the cost of failing for the year This sets up 2 lessons about the world. 1.) Even in school, risk of death is possible. This hammers a theme of mortality while instilling some sense of what guardians are risking on a grander level. 2.) Risk/ reward. They have to struggle with helping someone at the risk of failing, or forge ahead and live with the guilt of a casualty. Is it worth a life or not? Regardless what choice our characters make, that type of hard choice makes them that much more realistic and relatable. You could even make the entire thing moot in the first place by revealing this Blonde girl was secretly a teacher using disguising magic to appear like a student in trouble to make a speech about the hardship that the student in need represented and how both answers had their own merits and downsides but ultimately the "right" answer is never so clear and sometimes a sacrifice has to be made and no matter if your heart is in the right place or not, you won't always be right and there will be consequences. So you have to choose the "lesser of the two evils" That change alone would make this scene actually fucking good Edit: the creator of this show went on social media saying that bad writing is because of their budget... I made this better and I did it for free lol what a lame excuse.
This suggestion feels very clunky for pacing and really detracts time from later scenes in the episode. It seems like it could possibly work in a different episode or if getting the water wasn’t important for what happens in the next few episodes.
I still don't know what makes a guardian a guardian. What happened to all the adult guardians (aside of Rosemary's mom), is all the responsibilities placed on teenagers? Why aren't there any classes like Paladins, witches, thieves and the like specifically in this lore in a fantasy setting? They make references to some of the characters without showing it play out.
what makes a guardian a guardian ? if they didn't know what makes a guardian they wouldn't be here discussing it with us now woul- oh wait they aren't here discussing it with us... guess even the missing guardians don't know what makes a guardian
The girl that was too scared to enter the cave had a valid point though. Why are they all risking their lives so early in their studies? That “cowardly” girl had the most common sense, yet they made her feel like _she_ was the crazy one. 🤔 Why does that sound familiar...
@@stp_79 Hmm.... I feel like tge writers may have been projecting something into their power fantasy. That may have been inspired from her encounter at school....

one thing someone should note, that girl has been the subject of abuse up until that point. I mean getting poisoned, getting attacked by a plant that dissolves flesh. she just couldn't take it anymore and hightailed out of there. also how is this acceptable in the school they go to?? i thought this was a magic school, not a militant clan. Honestly, weeding out the weak students just because they're not fit for fighting is fucked up.
Honestly this show would be better if it was a military academy for adults, not only would it excuse most of the life threatening danger but it would also help with the subject they try to touch on.
@@beastwarsFTW Yeah. Most fantastical coming of age stories would work a lot better if they were already young adults. Makes all the adults seem fucked up for throwing a bunch of children in needless danger.
also aren't they understaffed for "guardians" or something... and because it's a school, wouldn't it make more sense to train said weak people, kinda like a boot camp kinda thing? And why are they sending in trainees to do professional work? why did the goblin turn on the stove?
After the blond girl left, she seeked out another guardian school where it was run by much more responsible and caring teachers. She got a much better education and met much better students who never felt in danger of being there. She grew up and became a legendary guardian, got married, had beautiful children, and lived in a good home. As for the others, not one graduated from the academy because they all died.
I get the impression this is like joining the military, where danger comes with the territory, but dumber because the military actually tries to build up your skills more before throwing you in life or death situations rather then making it a death trap from the get go.
I like how somewhere in the series one character has a flashback where his father gives him a lesson that to protect or get something he has to fight back and the show says that It's a bad harmful lesson. Yet here teachers make them go into dangerous cave, risk their lifes and kill some creatures that live here and everyone is like "Yup, seems perfectly ok to me".
Apparently it was a bad harmful lesson because fighting back to protect what's yours is masculine, and Snap just wants to be feminine?? But then it's weird because 3 minutes ago in the same episode he was beating the FUCK out of a bully because he got teased.
@@unitysonic7996 I know the writers wanted that bullying to be intolrance to a feminime male, but personly i saw the scene as i guy pissed of his friend wasn't true to himself he clearly liked meerfolk and goated him a bit aggressive in his friend to drop his pride and join in. then instead of getting a aggressive "stop it" he gets attacked no wonder the guy throws in the towel

The mission was to collect healing water from any of the springs, with successively more concentrated ones on each level. Presumably the weak-ass shit on level one is more than adequate for the assignment, meaning that being prepared for levels 2 and 3 IS more than required.
“The mission’s meant to challenge them. But it also forces them to challenge themselves” Correct me if I’m wrong but, didn’t she just say the same thing but with different words?
I think the idea is that they would be challanged by the cave, but the added risk of death actaully FORCES every student to actually challange the cave

As she panted from the exhaustion from both her anxiety and adrenaline slowly fading as the realization hit her like a arrow piercing her heart. She had just been expelled from High Guardian Academy. Tears started to pour down on her cheeks as she cried as she slowly looked over the bridge and see the dark river below. Zinnia observed it as she noticed how high the stone bridge is from the river. Her mind was consumed by the her memories of her past. She ran away from her neglectful mother and brother so she can become a Guardian only to realize that it is just as bad if not worse than her abusive home life. "Maybe it would be better if I just disappear? What's the point of living if there is nothing to live for?", she thought to herself as she estarted to slowly climb over the edge. The blonde girl closed her eyes and jumped. Blackness consumed her though instead of a splash from the water there was only nothing. She slowly opened her eyes to realize that she was floating in a dark abyss naked. She then saw a presence of darkness looming over her. The looming darkness revealed a large black figure with many yellow eyes. Zinnia screamed as she shielded her eyes from the dreaded sight of the monster. "This is it? I'm going to be consumed by a demon.", she thought to her self as her anxiety kicked in. "Do not fear young child as I came to save you.", the dread monster said in a voice that sounded like millions people speaking at the same time. "Your not going to kill me?", Zinnia asked as she slowly looked at the monster. The dark creature slowly tilted it's head as it looked at her. "I noticed that you were desperate, lost, rejected, and ignored.", the eldritch abomination responded. Zinnia stared at the beast before looking down at her own hands. Throughout her life she was viewed as useless and weak from both her mother and brother as well as High Guardian Academy. "I don't want to be viewed as nothing anymore. I want to be something more better than a Guardian. Nobody helped me when I'm at my worst.", she explaind as she fought the urge to cry. The eldritch abomination stared at her with it's many yellow eyes before speaking. "I am Nhaulu, one of the many beings in the realm of unknown. I will give you powers unimaginable to both mortals and immortals alike. You will be able to control the unkown and use it's secrets as both a tool and weapon. What do you say Zinnia?", Nhaulu said. Zinnia was shocked by Nhaulu knowing her name though yet again this offer sounds very reasonable. She would be able to harness Nhaulu's powers for her own use. To become more than just a simple Guardian. "I'll take your offer, Nhaulu.", Zinnia declared as she stared at Nhaulu. Instantly she coughed as she woke up. Zinnia looked around to noticed that she is in a room with a candle bring a faint light within the room she got up from her bed and looked at the window. The moon illuminated the night sky. As she observed the moon she was interrupted by the sound of the door opening. "Oh, your finally awake.", said a feminine voice. The blonde girl turned to see a middle aged Orc woman carry a tray of food. "Here is your dinner sweetie.", she said. "How did I got here?", Zinnia asked as she started eating the food. "My husband and son were coming home after chopping firewood and noticed you were near a river face first on the ground. Fortunately they saved you. By the way, my name is Durz.", Durz said with a smile on her face. "My name is Zinnia.", Zinnia answered. The blonde girl was going to shake her hand until she noticed a small black tattoo on back of her right hand. "Did you always had that?", Durz asked with concern in her voice. Zinnia looked at it before smiling. "I had it after my parents died. It was my family's emblem.", she lied as she continued eating. @@mochamochee Originally I was going to write Zinnia as an apprentice of a politician who was trying to reform High Guardian Academy. Though I eventually decided to write her as a warlock because it sounds more fun. Plus I have thought of writing a fanfic about her adventures as a warlock. I think the reason why I find her interesting is because she does have potential and she was unfortunately the punching bag for a terrible show. Maybe it could also be the fact that I always have a soft spot for minor background characters and I do like her character design since it looks more fantasy and less modern than the other characters. It's probably a good thing she left High Guardian Academy because it's clearly a toxic environment.

Y'know, this show could've actually been pretty good if the writers put a twist on it's generic premise. As a child (or even an early teenager), you can be much more susceptible to people's influence, whether it's good or bad. You haven't seen the world outside your little "villager." These "guardians" believe they're only being trained to be heroes, to defend the village. After all, that's kind of what they've been told by their parents and headmasters, I say kind of because the actual explanation their parents and headmasters gave was a little confusing and wasn't the whole truth. They can't straight up tell the kids that they're being trained by evil people, or else they wouldn't listen to them. Why do you think we only have a vague idea on what a guardian actually is? Because these kids only have a vague idea on what a guardian is. Do you know why Rosemary's mom looked happy when she about to die? Because she knew she would be freed from the influence of the wicked, she wouldn't have to do their bidding anymore. Before she died, she wanted to tell Rosemary the truth, but she was afraid of the possible consequences of her doing so. These kids are subtly being trained for something sinister, it isn't direct, but it's clearly effective. Rosemary didn't seem too concerned about nearly lobbing off that red haired elf's head, because her feelings on things like other people's lives has been twisted without her even knowing it. A few kids, like that blonde girl, are smart enough to see through the lies, and they escape. However, they're never seen again. Our heroes will have to find out the truth eventually, but what will they do then? Will they choose to renounce the guardians, or stick around because that's all they know?
Shoot, this is actual decent story plot that could potentially developed into a complex story that would be entertaining to witness. Instead, we get this "anime":/
Huh, that’s a fascinating thought exercise. If anyone were forced to make a season 2, this could be the best route to take. Not only does it help explain some of the weird or poorly thought out writing decisions and make season 1 better in retrospect, it would also make for a thrilling continuation that pulled the rug under our feet like that. Subverting expectations in the best way possible, haha.
An Isekai city that's protected by "Guardians" who are mostly comprised of "Woke" kids, tweens, and teenagers that simply survived an unprepared spelunking trip into "monster-infested" cave? How has this city NOT been completely ransacked and leveled to the ground yet?
You know how Crunchyroll used money on this garbage instead of anime? That Isekai world probably does the same by generating money towards it's protection to keep the wokes here so they don't spread to the rest of the world.
Because there’s nothing to actually protect the city from. There are no actual threats. They just pretend like there are threats and like a certain group of people in this world (hint: the creators are part of the this group)

I think it would be better if the rude one of the main characters tried to protect and calm down the blonde girl, showing that nice side of their personality.
Except none of those protags are actually nice. Rosemary is a violent sociopath, Sage is an emotional vampire, Parsley is a non-character and Thyme has some variant of autism considering her laser focus on her quest to heal the rot has left her with nonexistent social skills.
It would be a far better premise if the episode started with one of teacher explaining to the students that "Once a year, the town sends at a party of four veteran guardians into this cave to retrieve a barrelful of magical healing water for the local alchemies. However, the cave has many dangers. Many brave volunteers who have entered the cave have risked their very lives, some have even died attempting such a quest. And if any of you value you lives, stay away from the cave!" And then Rosemary and Co hatch a hair-brained scheme to sneak out and retrieve the healing water to prove themselves as heroes to the school and the city. Yeah that's a set up we've seen a lot of different times, but it's a good one. Weird they never used it in this show. They never really establish 'school rules' in the first place, so breaking them is not really meaningful, anyway. I honestly want to see that girl join a group led by Doyle, the kid who dropped out after nine years or something. Their goal: Take down the twisted, bloodthirsty Guardians so kids can actually learn more about magic and be trained as soldiers, healers, etc. WITHOUT being treated like expendable pawns. It's honestly so shady, how the school blots out the deeper knowledge required for old magic and treats the kids like failures if they don't willingly risk their lives for no good reason.
So the school: - Send children doing work - That work implies a risk to die or being severely injured - They give the bare minimum of useful intel - The children doesn't really know what they're doing it - The school keep all of the precious ressources from that quest, children wins the night not lose their place - Those who express doubt are shamed and cast out with zero support and compassion - The city people staying safely at home fanatically encourage that quest Conclusion: the school is basically an evil cult that sacrifices children for profit thanks to shaming and manipulation. WTF?

Plot twist: the ancestors of this village did something so sacreligious ( like breaking a promise to an ancient demon and when the hero show up instead lf aiding them they just scarifice them to the demon) which cursed their village with natural disasters unless they sent a group of people into the nearby cave to be sacrifice, hence this scene. But this will only delay their doom soon, the village will be burnt to ashes
the guardians are kids because training them into adulthood would take longer, and what's the point anyway if they're just going to die? some, like rosemary's mother, survive until adulthood because actively murdering them is against the prophecy. that means she grew old enough to realise that she'd brought a child into this world whose only role was to die and she couldn't do anything to stop it (even if she did, the rest of her people would die). so she sacrificed herself to delay her daughter's fate without telling her the truth first. the best she could wish for her child was that she'd live a happy carefree childhood that was ended quickly, like many of her classmates' had once been, so she let rosemary live in ignorance.

Not even close in medieval time a page (the first level of a knight in training) Didn’t even participate into any kind of situation that could put his life at risk. The only training he was doing was with wooden weapon. And that was until the age of 12 (A page start at 6, and become a squire at 12. And12 is probably the age of most of these character and therefore the equivalent of squire would their guardian training. And once again challenges per combat or « adventure » like those in this hsown were absolutely not part of his formation. The closest a squire he would get to this was: A- Training with iron weapons like a sword And B- Assisting his knight master when he was in danger in the melee. And by that no I do not mean fighting by his side, but by staying outside of the battle zone and being ready to give a new weapon or shield to his master if the one that he was using were to be broken or lost, or by helping the knight to get up if he fell from his horse. @@Fatahilmazelan RWBY was never that best written show even when Monty was alive. But the fight choreography was fun, the characters were fun, and it was just fun. Until the later volumes that is. But even at its worst, RWBY at least has more going for it than High Guardian Spice.
See the younger blonde girl had something in the beginning, I can totally understand why she was scared to go into the cave. Sending a bunch of recruits on a dangerous quest like this then constantly telling them how scary it is when they leave would make me shit my pants as well. But than they made her self centered and dumb "I'm too young and too attractive to die" why are all th negative traits in this show is mainly self centered and ignorant. That's mostly it. I also hate how her class just looks back at her in confusion, I understand the purple one since she is more like a bully, but shouldn't other members of her class be terrified to enter as well, it would have been interesting to see others ready to opt out even maybe one of the main cast showing slights of fear. Get a cringy speech or two in there convince others to stay.
That moment were they sandbag this girl is like someone in the writing team wanted to respond to someone that criticize their work.
And then they have the feckin gall to call her a coward for having a panic attack and voicing reasonable concerns. A+ writing everyone!

How to make this scene better:
Instead of Blonde girl running away and instead of the having levels she goes in with the rest of the cast and the scrolls only have a few locations marked but only a few people can get the "magical healing water"
Those that fail to get it, get dropped from the academy for the year.
The Blonde girl goes in first, then the rest. (She goes in first because it's the teachers idea of "instilling courage")
When the cast go inside, they hear her scream and rush to find her bleeding against the wall as she was attacked by a monster, and the wound leaves her incapacitated.
Now the characters are left with a choice:
Leave her for dead because nobody is allowed to leave the cave (immediate failure)
Or save her life at the cost of failing for the year
This sets up 2 lessons about the world.
So you have to choose the "lesser of the two evils"
That change alone would make this scene actually fucking good
Edit: the creator of this show went on social media saying that bad writing is because of their budget... I made this better and I did it for free lol what a lame excuse.
Like the Chunin Exams in Naruto S1.
Dang, you actually made the series more interesting AND lore driven!

I actually like that line and "I missed the days when we used to throw them in lava"
STOP YOURS WRITING A DECENT PLOT

Shoot, this is actual decent story plot that could potentially developed into a complex story that would be entertaining to witness. Instead, we get this "anime":/
Huh, that’s a fascinating thought exercise. If anyone were forced to make a season 2, this could be the best route to take. Not only does it help explain some of the weird or poorly thought out writing decisions and make season 1 better in retrospect, it would also make for a thrilling continuation that pulled the rug under our feet like that. Subverting expectations in the best way possible, haha.
Oh, I like the idea of village actually being a town dedicated to training mercenaries and soldiers for an evil king
An Isekai city that's protected by "Guardians" who are mostly comprised of "Woke" kids, tweens, and teenagers that simply survived an unprepared spelunking trip into "monster-infested" cave? How has this city NOT been completely ransacked and leveled to the ground yet?

Look, I know not the most original set-up, but at least it would've worked better than this nonsense.
Yeah that's a set up we've seen a lot of different times, but it's a good one. Weird they never used it in this show. They never really establish 'school rules' in the first place, so breaking them is not really meaningful, anyway. (spoilers) later, the vial of water they collect gets broken, and nobody thinks to just....get more. That would have been a second opportunity to use this plot but noooo they have summon a demon. idek with this show.

It's honestly so shady, how the school blots out the deeper knowledge required for old magic and treats the kids like failures if they don't willingly risk their lives for no good reason.

the old lady was cool, mostly because she was rooting for the girls' deaths
I feel like they were in the wrong for shaming her for being scared
Like I'd leave if I knew that I had a 80% chance of dying
Even if the odds were just 50% I'd be getting out of dodge
I'm not looking for an early grave anytime soon
So the school:
- Send children doing work
- That work implies a risk to die or being severely injured
- They give the bare minimum of useful intel
- The children doesn't really know what they're doing it
- The school keep all of the precious ressources from that quest, children wins the night not lose their place
- Those who express doubt are shamed and cast out with zero support and compassion
- The city people staying safely at home fanatically encourage that quest
Conclusion: the school is basically an evil cult that sacrifices children for profit thanks to shaming and manipulation. WTF?

It's a medieval society, it makes sense in context. The joke is that the girl thinks like if it were modern times and nobody gets it.
The closest a squire he would get to this was:
A- Training with iron weapons like a sword
And
B- Assisting his knight master when he was in danger in the melee. And by that no I do not mean fighting by his side, but by staying outside of the battle zone and being ready to give a new weapon or shield to his master if the one that he was using were to be broken or lost, or by helping the knight to get up if he fell from his horse. And this was an extremely dangerous task. He was suppose to quickly GTFO of the battle since has squire he didn’t had any kind of weapon (or real armor) of his own yet, except for improvised or simplistic weapon such has a wooden club.
Those kids don’t act like squires but like brainless canon fodder.
So both Samus and Link got expelled from High Guardian...
