Hi. I live in the UK and I heard about the Traxxas recall today on Tomley RC's channel. I bought a used Traxxas Slash 2wd Gunk edition in 2018 on eBay UK and decided to use the link Phil provided for UK Traxxas owners to see if it was one of the models that's on the recall list, which it was. So I filled out their form with the Traxxas model and serial number and emailed it back. I did this because I have C.O.P.D lung disease, and even though the risk may be minimal if I work on that area of the Slash with such a tiny part containing Asbestos, it could still be a danger to my already failing health. I received a reply within the hour from them saying; Quote "Your vehicle(s) ARE affected. Based on the serial number(s) provided we have determined your vehicle(s) will need to be reworked by us (here in Kent). "We are currently processing the recall requests, so once we schedule in your vehicle we will be in touch with specific shipping instructions". It will be very interesting to see how things develop with this recall generally, and with the process of getting my Slash "reworked".
I like to imagine I know what I'm doing when I upgrade, so I run it stock first, to identify what's needed..now, that doesn't stop me from IMAGINING what upgrades are needed, and order ahead of time😅 Example: I have an upgraded with brass and brushless Ascent 18 coming tomorrow, but I thought of getting a really nice servo. Turns out the stock servo is pretty good and doesn't need replacing like servos usually do.
When Asbestos was found in the shipping containers from Traxxas more than 12 months ago by Australian customs the containers were sealed and sent back to Traxxas. This has been one of the reasons there are almost no Traxxas parts or vehicles for sale in Australia. You can say Australia is a small market but I say traxxas has lost a lot of the market share in the last 18 months and is unlikely to get it back because of their slack attitude to safety. It’s shocking how slow this recall is in the rest of the world. Australia has most of the world’s asbestos mines .
@stevemoore1698 tiles and siding are a non issue unless you break them up and roll in it. Asbestos is only an issue when friable and disturbed. Its smart to ne weary but its not going to jump up and bite you just because its there.
Scratch built kit all the way! If I have to take it apart to make sure everything is lubricated and torqued correctly anyway. Then I might as well build the whole thing. That way, everything that is over tightened and stripped is my fault.
I enjoy it all, building kits since the 80's, enjoyed the nitro boom in the 90's, love RTRs and would absolutely buy a good ARTR to add my own electronics.

I love a good kit, I wish they came out before the RTR's instead of after. That being said, rather than an ARTR maybe FMS has it right with a pro version RTR. Upgrade all the electronics for the people that want that version.
When I was fairly new to the scene RTR. But after being burned by RTR's not using locktite and ungreased gears I prefer kits now. At least with a kit if a screw backs out I can only blame myself. Plus most of the time I replace over half the parts in a RTR, so it ends up being cheaper to do a kit. Additionally with a kit you know all the ins and outs for the model and can diagnose problems quicker.
I love building kits most rtrs electronics are sub par but my first vanquish rtr was the optic and I’m highly impressed the stock electronics do fine I haven’t changed anything besides tires and wheels and I switched my body panels to the Supra inspired panels
I would rather build the kit or have an ARTR or even bind and drive. I typically do not use the stock radios which requires me to pick up another spectrum receiver to pair with my rugged . I probably have 20 RTR radios sitting around and I never can find the right vehicle they go to so at some point, I will start having to label them.
I prefer kits unless a specific rig I’m interested in is RTR only. For the ARTR, if a higher quality motor or a 2in1 isn’t preinstalled, I personally don’t see the benefit as I would more than likely replace the stock motor anyway. Just my preference. Always appreciate the news 📰 dude! 🤘
A-RTR are good for the larger scale vehicles which compared to the RTR are a few hundred dollars less which represents great value if you have the required items already! And I know because I purchased a HOBAO 8SC A-RTR but it needed electronics, the body painted and wheels glued but it was great value!
I am pro kit. I just have the hardest time choosing a body for a new build. I think Vaterra Ascender was one of the last ARTR that you had to supply just the battery, receiver, and transmitter. I really liked that setup.
i would love to have some kind of odometer or something like that for my rc's just to see how far i've driven them. maybe that "game" could have something like that?

For the Associated RC10GT, the problem isn’t that the engine is not available, as you can find many options for the .12 and .15 nitro motor. The problem at least for me is that the majority of these engines cost the same or more then the truck kit costs.

I live in Germany and have a large Traxxas stable, and i couldn't care less about that little bit asbestos in the slipper pads. I will drive them as always and replace them with the new ones when worn down. Simple as that!
i live in germany too... and i´m glad i sold my all my "fast" traxxas cars years ago. but i changed alot of traxxas slipper in the past, and i wonder if traxxas was the only one who used asbestos.
I have enough projects atm so a RTR is more my style and I can enjoy it now and change stuff as it breaks or i get extra funds. If I had the funds it would be a full kit and pick everything I need. I enjoy the modifying a already built rig the most tho.
Wouldn't mind ARTR if they came with clear bodies. I always find myself purchasing a clear body to paint or tweaking the ARTR body by removing stickers or doing something with flat paint on it to make it unique.
I’m old school I always choose a kit over a RTR I only do an ARTR when there’s no kit option as it is when I’m forced into a RTR/ARTR my first step after unboxing is complete disassembly even if the only change I’m making is installing my own receiver or none at all Ive just encountered so much poor quality control things like almost empty oil shocks loose screws or worse over tightened and binding components etc etc
Kit, RTR, ARTR in that order. I like building and getting it the way I want from the start, but I’m also slow (methodical) so if I just want to drive a truck I’d get the RTR. I’d don’t mind using stock electronics for a time while I get to know a truck. The cost and environmental savings of an ARTR is appealing, but I’d be itching to get the truck rolling as soon as I got it out the box, so might as well be an RTR then.
I'm old. I started when building your own was the only way you didn't end up with something like a Clod Buster. I WAY prefer a kit. That's does me real well, cuz I really don't want 25 radios, receivers and power trains in my junk drawer. Got into the SCX24's for a while, amazing how quick junk parts accumulate. Be well all.
I’m more interested in kits. I love knowing all my stuff is greased and bolts properly tightened. I wish the kits would come out first before the rtrs though
I still like kits more but idk in some instances I wouldn't mind have an ARTR from team associated enduro ifs truck chassis kit for the build right I got
I bought a RC10DS when they first re released because I never could get one as a kid and it was a short run car. Now there is so many I want so fast I cant keep up buying the kits I want to collect lol. I think they are doing it for part availability so they can take back some of the after market replica parts that are keeping these old cars going at an affordable cost. It is annoying tho like you said there is no real new option for a .12 other than a company I never heard of or $700 and up race engines. That's probably why I wont get the GT and I really want one again!
On most of my RTR’s , the electronics were the first thing to go and I wished that the AR2R was an option because it always felt wasteful. Arrma offered this with their EXB line and I thought it was brilliant because you had all of the hop ups factory assembled and ready for the electronics of choice. The exception to this is Hobby Plus/furitek rigs that come equipped pretty decently equipped. P.S. Throttle Therapy livery is already SOLD OUT! That’s the one I really wanted 😢
The first thing I usually replace are Wheels/Tyres obv. Secondly are the electronics (including motor). I would love an option of an ARTR with no electronics or motor.
I like the artr without electronics. I keep a kit on deck to build (usually a Tamiya) but having a quick entry with preferred electronics is a nice option
I don't have the initial budget to build a kit into a drivable rig. I've had a donated parts built Phoenix without electronics for almost 2yrs. In that time, I won an RC4WD Marlin and was given a SSD Trail King; I drive them both weekly, until I burned out the Firma Rx/ESC in the SSD this weekend. Now I need 2 motor/ESCs, 2 steering servos, and a RadioLink RC4GS with 2+ receivers.
Speaking of kits I just put the throttle therapy kit together, and I don't really care for the colors but the kit was fun to build , and instructions don't show electronics so it makes the kit hard to build at first. I had to watch videos of other builds to get vinyl stickers on correctly as well lol no instructions on how to install vinyl was the worst of the build. 24:25
I'm usually good with RTR, I prefer driving something immediately and deciding if its worth upgrading, vs building a kit, finishing it and being like "eck. what a waste" kits are fun though.
I would much prefer kit over rtr or artr. That being said, if it was a vehicle only offered prebuilt, i would absolutely prefer artr. I’ve got over 100 rc vehicles and I’d say 90% have aftermarket electronics. The stock electronics are either trashed or shoved in a box never to be seen again.
I stick to RTRs because the bashers I love only come in that format, and I know I’ll end up upgrading everything anyway. Once I replace the stock electronics, I always find something else to put them in. It’s like throwing water on a gremlin-suddenly, there’s more! That’s the reality of my “custom” RTR life. 🫡❄️😎🤘🏽
I’m more of a kit guy than rtr. I think rtr’s are appealing in the crawling world because they come with a nice body and accessories such as lights. One thing I would like to see is a kit that contains the body and scale accessories.
I’d prefer the ARTR. I’ve started to accumulate RTR electronics that were quickly replaced and now have little to no purpose. If I had more time for the hobby, I’d take a kit first. But the ARTR seems like a reasonable cromlromise
ARTR would be excellent. I love the idea of saving the money on a radio that I don't want. A lot of rc planes are BNF which is Bind And Fly. So you get everything except the radio and battery (most often it's spektrum based). ARTF is a thing too but not as common these days.
New Morgan & Morgan commercial… “Have you or a loved one handled or adjusted a Traxxas slipper clutch or been exposed to a Traxxas slipper clutch?”😂

I would like to see all the electronics minus the radio and receiver, I never use the RTR radios, I always just add my receiver, bind and go.
I have piles of short crank nitro engines . Also I have put one of every TRX engine in gt's over the years including the 3.3 up crank one 🤣
The nicest carbon fiber h10 panels/parts will be available soon! Just be patient!
I enjoy building and personalizing but an assembled slider without a body is a nice idea
For Optic panels to be of any use it would be nice if the Optic were to be possible to get ones hands on in the first place.
Kit but rtr for getting into thw hobby is nice. Less overwhelming
I like my kit's, but I wouldn't mind the ARTR. I pull most if not all the electronics out before I run them anyway.
The only rtrs I've ever bought is Losi Trail Trekker and scx24. Dude thanks so much for SNU. Take care of yourself
I would buy the ARTR as I have two Flysky NB4 and NB4+ Pro radios. I do have a couple of kits on my list to buy as well.
I actually wished there were slider kits. Much like the Redcat Gen8 Pack was. All assembled slider. No wheels, body, or electronics
I lean more towards full kit, but those are somewhat rare these days. ARTR would be better than RTR because I’m swapping electronics regardless.
Kit are the best, but ARTR and RTR are good too.
Definitely prefer kits
Kit all the way everyday. I like building better then running.
Come on, Josh. Buy the aluminum bed for us! It would make a great unboxing on Livestream Takeover!
Kits are my first choice!
