To answer your question about those "babies," those are called Templates. They're basically cloned humans that are used for spare parts, so to speak. For example, if you have a cancerous organ that needs replacing, get one from your Template.

I remember when the Dead space horror was a thing in with my cousins.
Floating ragdoll corpses in space, or in the vents waiting to see one get chopped by that fan thing. that hand in the cover of the game, and those creatures that stabbed its victims in their brain, and they would roll their eyes up and agonize as they transform, especially that death animation when Issac gets killed by those spider body invading things, that would chop Issac's head off and implants itself and begins controlling Isaac's corpse.
