Very nice tool. In "Denmark" I spend hours watching your videos. I liked the "Mystery Slab Chert Flintknapping and Yapping" and many other videos very much, and not least your entertaining way of talking. There is a lot of flint in Denmark wich can be found on a trip along the coasts, but I do not know anyone who practices this art of making stonetools from it. On the contrary, many tools are found here.
I made blowgun darts when I was young. I sold many. My points were one eight inch thick one quarter wide one half long. Approximately. Yes my people did use stone points on the end of their darts
Over the years, I have developed a combination approach to slabs. Why? Because it shortens the process. Flipping the piece after each strike driving longer flakes with the billet and making platforms with the Ichi stick principly on the sides and then more Ichi stick on the ends with opportunistic billet strikes. Quicker, results. You are more experienced than me and a better Knapper, so you would catch on in no time. That piece you were working on looked like floor tile, dusted like floor tile but sounded exactly like chert. My curiosity was definitely perking like a boiling pot. Good job. 👍
I tend to watch the entire video whenever you are talking and sharing your thoughts. There are probably a hundred reasons why that is, but why over analyze it. For me, it's because you are entertaining to listen too. So I say, don't ever stop talking.
Does wood not soak up poison better without fire hardening? I found a big box of antique porcelain tiles and that knapps really good, it’s just twice as thick as modern stuff, thanks for another great video jack 🙏🏻
Depends on the poison, I guess. A lot of poisons are mixed with resins, so I think the "soaking in" thing wasn't that important. But it's an interesting question.
For blowgun tips I use flakes lightly ground into a triangle it’s too laborious for tips but it is good for experimentation sake besides that I fire harden the wooden tips of my darts
I had a blowgun made out of a cane stalk with darts with miniature stone points made and .given to me by a Cherokee Indian from East Tennessee. Lee Gibbs😊
I would also go as far to say the small arrow point may be used for small game like squirrel as not to damage the meat as much (side note it also means that they won’t have to waste a full size arrow head on something so small)
Great video! I appreciate and truly enjoy your content! You inspire me to keep trying to learn this skill. You make knapping look so easy! I get frustrated sometimes because just as I get a point developed enough to where I’m happy with it and think “I’ve done it” the point breaks and I get frustrated but I just watch a jack crafty video and I’ve got my motivation and inspiration back! I’ve been trying to find someone that is a somewhat experienced knapper in southern Ohio or northern KY or an event that I could see someone Knapp in person and be able to learn from but haven’t been able to find anyone or any event schedules that are up to date or relevant. A point in the right direction would be very appreciated!! What’s everyone’s opinion that has used aluminum knapping tools. What do think about aluminum compared to copper? I have just started knapping about a month ago and just made some aluminum tools to see if they make any difference. Just curious to see what people think and get some opinions.
Copper is better than aluminum in all categories. @@KnapperJackCrafty Thanks! I’m pretty sure both those knapp-ins are already past though unfortunately. I’m pretty sure they were this past spring and Labor Day weekend. Both were before I got into flintknapping.
Done a very good job on slab jack seems like the ishi stick with copper point is my nemesis but I’ll learn it lol I think it’s my body skills my knee don’t want to help lol I might have to fire that useless knee lol
I’ve found that putting a piece of fire wood or something under my foot to allow my leg to pinch the ishi stick without having to physically bend my leg to hold it. Different height chairs and stools or whatever you sit on make a difference as well. Just try to be as comfortable as possible as it is very distracting if your uncomfortable and in pain and your more likely to mess something up.
The velocity of a blowgun dart has to do with the dart fitting tightly inside the blow gun "barrel" how on earth woukd a mini arrowhead fit tightly inside such a barrel? You would blow in the gun, the arrow wouldnt even launch out of the blow gun.
Yes in my nation when you turn seven , you left your mother. You went to your uncles. They were responsible for education. Flint knapping was part of it
You said at the beginning that you couldn't knap a piece of slab with those dimensions and then you proceeded to do it anyway, absolutely amazing!
I normally don't start that thin, and I certainly don't recommend it, but it can be done if you're lucky.😊

I run a step fracture, hinge, dive and pop out manufacturing facility..... It's a controlled environment.
Too funny!

I think im running the same type of joint, less controlled, of course.
Setting on the dog got me. Lol

What a beautiful piece...
I'm amazed at your diligence.
With what you had to work with, Great job.
Thank you!
I have been watching and enjoying it much! My name is David. I think it is cool

Pretty good theory right there. That's how they thought. Practical and opportunistic
Watching you in Australia mate love your work never miss a video. Does floor tile improve with heat treat.?
No, floor tile is unaffected by heat.

@austinlong7700 They are annual knap-ins so now you have some advanced warning. 😁
What do you do with the artifacts you knap?
I sell the items I make. I have an auction every Monday on this channel.

True
Slab looks like low grade heat treated buffalo river
Thought experiment: Basking Turtle had to make twenty points before he had enough to trade for food and he was too busy doing that to hunt.
Basking Turtle should have collected 20 large gar scales for arrowheads. 😁
Looks like a really cooked slab of painted buffalo river.
