Firearms laws are super strict as you an imagine, can only really own guns for sporting purposes and self defence is out of the question despite the fact that the criminals can still access them. Would love to explore the states more it seems much more free in terms of outdoor spaces and gun rights.

Absolutely, unsafe for anything other than opening a letter maybe. The knife laws in the UK really are draconian unfortunately and just impractical.
