Not only did I learn about comic book layouts, I learned about movie direction as well! Awesome to see how you interpret the scene. Really great video!
Sometimes I think Spielberg works with his DPs as if they are penciler and inker - the cast shadows of those grates behind Grant on the shot where you identified him lined up with the raptor?!? Genius shot design.
Fascinating ... it is always wonderful to see how pages / panels are built up, the flow, the control of the timing etc. Perhaps a book on techniques at some point ?? (Scott McCloud / Will Eisner etc)
Yes totally agree you about the blocking on this specific scene, i would also add how he uses round shapes to make the scene more warm. How he does it with the help of circular shapes, the table, the lamp, the circle of people and the egg itself. The last one being the more important because it makes a reptile seem cute. He also refrains from showing the claw of the little critter as it would disrupt the warm feeeling we get as if watching a new born baby.
This was so wonderful. Thank you for making it. I have been thinking about this a lot so it was lovely to see you had already done some of that critical work so elegantly and shared it :)
Great video! I love this series, and how you interpret film techniques for comics. Your trick in the last panel to use dialogue balloons to direct the reader through Malcolm’s turn at the end of the sequence reminded me of Barry Windsor-Smith. I can’t wait to see what other scenes/techniques you translate for the uniqueness of comics! Thanks again for everything!!
Amazing video! These film to comic videos are immensely helpful for me because I always think of scenes first as if they were a film for some reason. Thanks so much I love them!
Hey Elsa, I asked Color with Kurt what channel he would recommend for me to learn more digital art from and he told me to come here. Your channel looks great so far! I'm glad he sent me!
Fascinating, as always! I'd be curious to know how you approach your pages and panels regarding the balloons. Working with other artists I'm always struggling with that part but here you just place them so casually, and I'm envious, haha! Maybe it would make for a great video! Thanks a lot for sharing your knowledge with us!
I don't know, I kind of wing it, and am by no means excellent at it. I sometimes compare my initial balloon placement with the final lettering and most of them they don't line up :)
I feel like if you asked the average comic artist to draw this page, from a script, you wouldn't have something as interesting, particularly that last tier of panels. Your channel has inspired me to keep an entire sketchbook where I can do break downs like this myself
I do go in really deep for these videos, and I might not have done it that way if I had just received a script for a comic, I'll be honest. The filmed sequence is very inspiring- something to build upon.

This is why comics are fascinating. They can combine the language of nearly every artistic medium.

So good. Like a super-condensed Master Class.

Thanks! I have a couple of art books that delve into that, if you're interested (link in the description box).
@@ElsaCharretierChannel Yes, they are on my 'to buy' list ... they look great books ! Love your tutorials, always fascinating

Holy moly, this video is so well produced! AND the content is excellent! Congrats to everyone involved!
This series of videos was amazing. You and the team deserve more views!
The intro, and "Hatching Baby Raptor" Playing in the background gave me goosebumps
This is great! I love this walkthrough of your process and comparing it with a familiar piece of work really helps reinforce the lesson :)

Goodness. Every single one of these videos is a FREE masterclass in comics. I ♡ this one so much.

Thanks! Yeah, BWS has been doing some pretty innovative things with his lettering in Monsters!
Great job! I really love the format you guys created here. Very original.
Thank you, Leonardo!

Brilliant as always Elsa. Love the thought and explanation. I'm always confused by pages that seem to have action without direction. Now I know why.

The special effects in this video...great work, Elsa!
Thanks! All the credit goes to Pierrick, who's handling the whole technical and directing side of the channel.

Where have you been all my life? This is how I think about comics but i never hear people speak about them this way.
As always this format is wonderful and very interesting
Colors: black vs. white, pink & blue together, gray suit near the end

So interesting! Makes me want to try this myself with some movie scenes!
Production value and analysis is insane, views are way too low for this level of quality
love your videos!
This is great! 🎉🎉🎉
Really great video.

Love your channel, are you planning on doing any more videos?
My first but certainly not last video by you. Absolutely fascinating. Cheers!
You must be really busy, but I just want you to know I miss seeing new videos!
haha, we're back with a new Case Study! We took a long summer break ;)
