  • Time is one of the most challenging aspect to render in comics, so today I dive into this head first by rendering slow motion in Blade Runner’s Deckard retiring Zhora scene.

    This is the first video of yours I've watched. My mind is blown, and I realize so many things I've never truly studied about comics. So many things that bored me about drawing sequential art. I knew nothing. So begins my watch of all your well-presented content that had me on edge this entire video, absorbing like a sponge. Thank you.

      When you start further digging into storytelling, you'll never get bored again! There are so many things to keep in mind and challenges to make a page work. Glad I could help some!

    BTW it drives me crazy that Scott broke the 180 rule with the last gunshot Deckard makes. Having Deckard shoot to the right and having the last shot where he shoots to the left, makes it look like Deckard ran around to the other side of the store to shoot Zora.

    • @Cornelius135
      @Cornelius135 3 года назад

      I never noticed that! It felt to me like the camera was moving around the scene - on Deckard’s right, on Zhora’s right, deckard’s right, then Zhora’s front, and then Deckard’s left/front. Plus because of the slow lotion We know he couldn’t have gotten around that quick, which gives more wiggle for the 180 imo

    On this Topic, Tom Scoli's Fantastic Four: Design is the fastest book I've ever read. all those panels seem like a bad idea in concept but the panel per page count heightens the galatic crazyness of Kirby's fantastic four in a way that makes it feel to me like the loving tribute it was designed to be. Great video, thank you for making me think more about books I like a lot

    Maybe blinking can also show time passing. Like the eyes getting more squinty in each panel, until they finally close.

      Absolutely! It's the same principle as what I did. You decompose a movement to the extreme.

    Merci pour cette excellente vidéo, claire et passionnante, comme d'habitude. Ce qui m'impressionne le plus est la façon dont tu es parvenue à réinventer la mise en scène de Scott (pourtant très bien pensée à la base) tant sur le plan séquentiel que purement graphique (l'idée de la neige est remarquable). Je trouve que c'est une incroyable démonstration de la force de la narration par l'image, trop souvent oubliée dans de nombreux comics. Vraiment impressionnant. Merci encore !

    Fantastic rendering of time crawling as her life fades. That you were able to get that done in a spread is great, showing you don't need 4 or more pages to handle that moment, and imagining reading it, opening it up to that would be impactful.

    I like your panel design for the story. I was thinking of small panels that lead up to a splash page of her crashing throw the glass plans. something like when the flash runs with the after images. with the shots breaking up the momentum but I like your idea better

  • @achimernest7656
    @achimernest7656 3 года назад

    Brillant, first, When you said you would put the gunshot in the middle of the double page, I thought it would serve as a spinning point for the both gun shots of the scenes. First page, she is running till the gun shot, and falling from the end of the page to the beginning of second page. Second page she's falling till the second shot (depicted in the same case as the former) then exactly have you have done with maybe a bigger case for the dead body.

    This Is really good.. but, IMHO there are too many panels , Id like something more sinthetic that better summarize the scene
