Excellent overview, Gill! People, who are intereinterested and familiar with the British history will understand the express method of observation for the purpose of the lesson, and those, who have never heard about Henry VIII or Elizabeth II, will have a general idea!
Thank you... Dear professor Gill mam... It was a Wonderfull experience for me, that actually took me back to years, at my graduations periods in my college.while watching you're videos on RUclips.. I felt i was sitting in the class rooms of Oxford University and you're the lecture in front of me.. Thank you once again for having such a Wonderfull experience and a detailed explanation of the origin of English language and its history. Remain Blessed... Dear
Dear Ma'am Gill, In this video,we learn a lot about the history of English literature ! Whenever we deal with history,we have to remember so many dates.l had mediaeval history as a subject way back during my graduation and my father's uncle had been a professor of history. Therefore, while under his tutelage and later in life too he was very proficient in remembering the dates and the sequences of history. I have the Canterbury tales by Geoffrey Chaucer with me.The whole book is in a form of long poetry which at times is difficult to understand. But being a professor of English literature, you can surely go through the book with an effortless ease ! The Merchant of Venice by William Shakespeare is one of the most fascinating plays which i still love to read ! Thank you so much,Ma'am ! 😃
Hello Gill, As a French English teacher, I just wanted to say thank you for your videos 😊 I enjoy watching them and I love your accent so much! 🤗 You are precious to us so thank you again. 🙏 Have a good day Gill.🙂🌻💐
Thank you very much, dear Gill! (You've become dear after having seen your wonderful lessons.) The topic about Catholics, Protestants and Puritans has become more clear, and the chapters of the english monarchy have become clearer too. Thanks a lot!!!
Thank you - old Brit here - and even now I'm still learning things I had forgotten or never knew ! It's a great way to introduce new people to a start on this subject, because we all know it's way more complicated, but generally you only get thrown into too much information & so much so that many people get bored & can't take it all in, and some never go back & learn more. I'm particularly interested in the immediate post Roman period tho - so little information on that era, i guess largely because so few people were literate at the time. But I believe it is slowly leaking out by listening to the tales of the period by later reporting from the early middle ages. We may never know it well enough, but I do think it was way more interesting than the history as chronicled by the Norman invaders - those who win the battles can write the story to suit themselves after all ! There are graves from the 500/600's that were obviously the leaders of the time, no grave goods to tell us much, but I am still hoping for more information of a King Arthur (2 of them actually ! ) that were the actual leaders of the Brits of the Western areas of the islands & more information of those indigenous peoples rather than the Normans who pushed them out, took over the lands & gradually intermarried with them & British history was then as they wished it to be told ! What a weonderful subject. Thnak you so much for your really great overview - very helpful & well done !
17 years ago, I learned some about English Constitutional Law History. This lesson remembered wasted years of my bachelor period. Thanks for you pedagogical work from South America and excuse me my bad english writting
Thanks you Gill from Russia, Yekaterinburg! So many items! Your brilliance pronunciation for listen and learn new wards!!! Learning English with your lessons happens so interesting!!! It is quite an irony that the English consider Victorian age as an age of industrialisation and social change while us Indians consider these years as one of the darkest period in our history, all thanks to the "glorious" Colonial rule.
