  • Rebecca Many Grey Horses explains the historical changes and adaptation of the Niitsitapi, Blackfoot, clothing. Learn about how the creation of clothing materials and styles changed from pre-colonization through the fur trade era into the reservation period. Niitsitapi were versatile in making their clothing from materials that were available, taking great pride in their artistic skills but also using spiritual symbols on their clothing. Today, those designs still exist and are passed from generation to generation. The styles impact the powwow regalia that Niitsitapi dancers wear to dance today, as they continue to adopt and adapt traditional and historical clothing and styles.

Thank you for the information. I was watching a documentary on predators on the reservation earlier. There are some young men that should be rewarded, honored and celebrated for standing up for themselves and others the way they did. And if they had been compensated for what they went through at least one of them wouldn't have needed to rob a bank. Yes, I said needed to rob bank. Another young man went to prison for assault, perhaps he was having a flash back. People knew what was happening, now we have who knows how many people walking around with that kind of pain. They need to heal, not get locked up so it can fester. I also saw a lot of places that could use some maintenance. There are a lot of home improvement shows, maybe something can be started on the reservations that need help. Prob want to do it from within the reservations, out side of all yall have pleanty of them.

Grandma had long black hair but she began to cut it gradually because she was getting old...she just put it in a ponytail wrapped so it wouldn't hang down.By the time I entered high school grandma had cut her hair to her shoulder.
