I’d go with heavy tank, since you’re Germany you can get your armor per div with a single heavy aa tank and produce it at around 9IC. This will give you about 8-10 extra armor per div and you’ll be unstoppable till 42. Also if you add a second aa tank and a support aa company the ai just stops using airforce
I always find air to be extremely annoying to build if your not a country with masses of rubber, also I swear you have to put like majority of your factories building it to make a difference.
I usually start production on a bunch of airplanes and let there be a lack of resources until I can bumrush synthetic rubber and build a shit ton of them. I find that air, especially CAS makes a huge difference
Honestly... tempted to do this next time I play. Air zones are so annoying to deal with and are possibly the part of the game most in need of an overhaul. Some map regions are next to impossible to effectively launch aircraft effectively from - and the AI never seems to have the same problem, making me wonder if there's some bodged coding going on in the background. And don't even get me started on the ridiculously broken way assigning CAS works. I had to remind myself why I don't do it recently - I assigned wings from an airport that was literally a province over from the front line and the air wing decided it should rebase on the other side of the enemy country in a NEUTRAL (but allied - they weren't involved in the war) nation out of range of the front line and thus did nothing until I realised what had happened, unassigned them and sent them back to the correct airbase to manually assign ground support. I want to love this game. Sometimes I genuinely do. But my god, Paradox, please fix these stupid 'features'. Until then I think I'm going to only have aircraft for interception and carriers and just spam AA (it breaks the AI too, they just stop flying in regions with too much AA).
I have heard of using a Soviet no airplane or minimalist airplane gameplay style, due to Soviet difficulty in obtaining rubber to put into airplanes. Germany has similar difficulty with obtaining rubber. Also, unlike the Soviets, Germany often suffers oil shortages, so it makes even more sense for Germany to make use of medium self-propelled anti-air battalions as a low-fuel substitute for fuel-hungry fighter airplanes, a substitute that unlike airplanes can also improve the division Armor statistic.
Support AA company or a single unit in a division is usually enough to pierce AI. You should only make planes if you have access to rubber and nothing better to do with mills

This Mediums SPAA strategy is really useful I went democratic Germany, formed the Central European Alliance and went to war with the USSR when they declared on Finland (and some days later on all of the Baltics and Poland), after ~a year of being on the defensive, sporadically taking some supply hubs and building my army up (120 Inf. Divisions, ~half being of the template with SPAA and 10/10 Tanks/Motorized) I began to go on the offensive, half a year later I capitulated the USSR with a ~1/8 losses ratio (~400k to ~3.000k Soviet casualties) At that time I also was at war with the British (they went fascist) and Italians; quickly capitulate them both, then saved China (Liberating all of the South, East, and Northeast of China + Manchukuo and Korea) and naval invade Japan (by this point it was mid 1942), which had ~20 divisions after I encircled their entire army in mainland Asia. - And all of that with less than ~900k casualties; As Nazi Germany I generally have those casualties during Barbaros alone All of this done by someone not very skillful and with ~100 Hours in the game (and a considerable % of those 100 hours is being AFK), so yes, very useful (and kind of OP if you ask me) strategy

Never used air force in SP. Maybe fighters 1, simply because I had too many factories so I made 1000's of planes and forgot about them. But thats pretty much it.

And well it works it takes very much equipment but when you get a army out with that template it destroys the allies and the soviets without air most of the time. I will never ever try to use 7 2 again.

another thing i tried which made little difference but still helps is selling all the planes you start with/capture after anschluss & fate of czechoslovakia at the international market instead of deleting them. it helps get your industry kickstarted even more.
