@Killikia Productions I am just commenting on what Tamar Kaprielian did by the way she was singing in Western Armenian sound system (Nubar not Nupar, boye not poye , ger u gamar e, not ker u kamar e, kisher no gisher etc.) that's all. About your condescending remarks that are totally uncalled for, what I meant by Arevmedahayeren and there IS such a thing called Arevmedahayeren whether you like it or not, Western Armenian term I used is a literal translation of the term Arevmedahayeren. (arevmoudk - West - Armenian hayeren). Just like we have the term arevelahayeren (Eastern Armenian). We are not talking about a geographical area called "Western Armenia" where that's true they spoke something vaguely closer to the Armenian spoken in the Caucasus, but even that's a generalization and not accurate. But for simplicity let's say it was. We in the diaspora are very sensitive when even the mere term Arevmedahayeren is being watered down in this way in a cunning and look down manner. As if you want to say our dialect should be called Istanbulaheyeren, and that Western Armenian was something else and it was something closer to what they speak in Armenia. A look down attitude on our language Arevmedahayeren which is already under threat doesn't help. Don't make it worse with such comments. Eastern Armenian was based on a dialect in Yerevan actually. So we call it Yerevanahayeren then or worse Hayasdanahayeren? You must realize there were many many Armenians even in the Caucasus and today's "Armenian" was also a selective dialect.We have historical terms called Arevelahayeren AND Arevmedahayeren. Let's use them without being sarcastic. Or else I can be sarcastic on your name Kilikia, which is actually a mspronunciation of what is actually pronounced Giligia, but you gave in to appease present sound systems in Armenia and shove it down our throats.
@Killikia Productions Let's not argue anymore for arguments sake. Let's just admit there are many Armenian "parpar"s (vernacular Armenians). I come from Marash for example, a city in Giligia or as you call Kilikia and there was a language called Marashi hayeren. It had its own grammar, vocabulary, sound system, its literature. So in fact there are many many many Armenian languages. Probably dozens, close to 100 dialects if not more. There is the Hamshen language surviving even today. That's Armenian as well. All are valid Armenian languages.
Its just that there were two literary movements in the 18th century who wanted to create a unified way of writing, grammar and pronunciation, one promoting what became known as Eastern Armenian, the other what became to be known as Western Armenian, separate grammar, separate vocabulary, separate sound systems, separate transliteration systems . These are not geographical terms. The Soviet Armenians made it worse by Reformed Armenian known as Apeghianagan (Abeghyanakan if you like) Armenian dumping very essential elements of traditional "Mesrobian ughakrutyun" and that is what created a bigger rift. So "Western Armenians", seeing this Communist atrocity that was done to our traditional and our solid Armenian spelling resisted and insisted to teach students in the diaspora traditional spelling and Istanbul-based pronunciations. Traditional Armenian diaspora was very proud of preserving their language. This went on until the new independence of Armenia.
But with the immense onslaught of Armenian immigrants from Armenia after the collapse of the Soviet Communist regime, some estimate as close to 1.5 million, posing a serious threat to the future of Armenia, now down from 4.5 million to just 2.9 million and the bleeding continues and we may have just 2 million left by the 2050s), Eastern Armenian pronunciations and spelling is taking over in our diaspora schools, literature, media, music. It is a veritable excuse the term "Eastern Armenian invasion" of the diaspora. This will further hasten the death of Arevmedayaren, now living its final demise. Anyway, thanks for your intervention and remarks. But we have serious issues and worse is coming. In Wikipedia, they just go in and distort the names of all Diaspora icons by changing their names and defacing them. I can feel it deep deep in my bones. But I can obviously do nothing about it. Thank God Kaprielian is just that Kaprielian and not Gabriyelyan But that's coming as well.
@Killikia Productions You are absolutely right. I am not a linguist but my knowledge is much deeper than you suppose. Turkish Armenians did lose the real sound values of the traditional Armenian alphabet and I endorse everything you say about the origin and etymology. That's why Eastern Armenian is phonetically correct and Western Armenian is deficient dare I say wrong in almost every instance. Our alphabet has these theoretical anomaly of b/p and dj/tch and k/g and t/d But a language is a living thing and it has its own logic and survival mode. It can be awfully incorrect going to the etymological sources and borrowed terminology, but all languages mispronounce. It's not just us? Arabs would say Baris not Paris, they will say Amreeka not Amerika, they will call me Qaaaro or Kaaaro, not Garo. It's not that we Western Armenians intentionally want to mispronounce. It's just the way it is. When we Kermania, Giligia, Lipanan, Yekibdos, Hayasdan, sure in their origins, we realize the true sound values are Germania, Kilikia, Libanan, Yegibtos, Hayastan. But it's the way we speak and nobody can come and make me pronounce them "accurately". Then you are teaching me a whole new language now, aren't you. Say azgayin NOT askayin, or else I'll punish you and ridicule you in public. Say Gabrielyan because that's the correct term. It comes from Gabriel. Kaprielian is wrong. No I will continue to say askayin even though I perfectly know azgayin is the correct term. And I will certainly continue naming her Kaprielian. That's her name. Everybody has a name. Don't deface them and impose something they are not. This is not what or how it works at all. We say Zvitseria, they say Shevetsaria, we say Fransa, they say Fransya, we say Sheved they say Shevetya, We say Bedros they say Petros, we say Garabed, they say Karapet. Suddenly I won't drop the Garabed and start saying Karapet ok? This is ludicrous. But what are you suggesting here? That we open schools to force us to "pronounce proper", a sort of mass indoctrination like they do in China? Is that it? My answer is very simple. We just pronounce them this way, it's our way of speaking it this way. We will take it to the grave with us this way. I will certainly not reform to your standards. Even to this day, I write "colour" and criticise" not the American atrocities "color" and "criticize". Nobody can impose and force changes on the way we actually speak. Languages are living entities, and defying logic. They may be wrong, but they are correct by existing as such. Let's say they have their own "peculiar" logic.
