Very sad news today. This was the first song of Nanci’s I heard. I had never really listened to any artists of her genre before, being more of a hard rock fan, but she opened a door for me that significantly expanded my musical boundaries. RIP Nanci, I love your work.
Same here: as a 20 something, country and folk held little interest to me until something made me buy little love affairs - and hearing Nanci's glorious voice for the first time blew me away. It was I wish it would rain that I loved the most, and 30 years later I often sang in to my baby daughter when rocking her to sleep. A unique and underappreciated talent, who made the most beautiful and timeless music.
When my daughter was almost 2 I was playing this song in my truck. She was in her car seat and though she could barely talk she would sing out "faaaace clean"....it was so cute!!! I will always love this woman's music. From Once in a Very Blue Moon ... and on out. 😪
I'm 44, I feel as if I was cheated out of this woman's music! I never saw her on anything or knew anything about her, I had heard that a woman of her name wrote Love at The Five and Dime, but they never played any of her songs or videos on anything I ever saw. I finally found a CD at the flea market a couple years ago, and bought it becuase I recognized her as 'that' songwriter.... then after enjoying it looked her up, and discovered she had just passed away! Now I find all of her videos on youtube, and it's like "why in the world did nobody ever tell me this woman existed?" She's fantastic! The record companies and the music industry sure knows how to screw up a good thing.
I saw Ms Nanci play twice in Louisville and if I ever invent a time machine, I will go back in time and help her and save her and help her outlive ms. Ms Nanci. My Louisville bows to your Austin. "Cause that Gulf Coast water tastes sweet as wine....."
"Exercise in contradiction" indeed! I want to describe her as a meek powerhouse, or a gentle forest fire or something. What a beautiful soul and a great loss.
Im a Townes fan and following his path also led to find Nancy. What a talent. She has felt v much part of my music family for years. We will miss this drlightful woman
I’m so heartbroken that Nanci has passed. Her songs brought me thru some rough times. Godspeed, Nanci. Teach the Angels to sing! They’ve never heard such a voice!! and we, unfortunately, will never hear one like it again. 💔💔
I feel in love with Nancy at first sight many years ago at a concert in Austin. We are the same age but she is gone - it's so sad to lose this beautiful talent so young. RIP
Used to cover this song and several other of Nanci's tunes in a band i was in, she was a shining light back in the 80's when good music was at a premium , in the following decades her standards never dropped and the world is a sadder place without her in it . RIP Nanci
From the first time i heard you Nancy i fell in love with your Voice. whata a beautiful ❤️ woman as well The first time I saw you was in the Late late show in Ireland you sang From a Distance and i was hooked straight away ❤. R .I P Nancy .
Nice, I never heard this song until today. She is doing the two step here and I don't recall ever seeing her do that either. "When the diamonds fall they burn like tears". I can't bring her back but I can still play her music.
She wasn’t just a part of the tapestry of music life when I lived in Austin in the 80s, she was a star of it, which is saying something, Angela Strehli, Albert Collins, the Vaughn bros. The very best of a landscape of endless talent. Funny, you don’t see it that way at the Time, Seeing Nanci pass the guitar around at a singer songwriter circle at the Chicago house, seeing The Iceman dancing with his wife at Antones on his night off. You don’t miss it Til it’s gone, Nanci is missed already, what a miracle she is
I wonder if she still looks like she's 12. What a voice. I learned of her - looking at different John Prine videos - and this angel popped up. ( Actually - the first song I heard from her was the Woolworth song )
She looks so ... " Petite " but tall some how. She has such a beautiful voice and smile... you automatically feel relaxed watching her perform... and what a song writer! Very talented woman! 👍👍😎
Woke up thinking of this song today. Can’t believe it is nearly a year since she’s been gone. Lovely to see a video where she is looking happy and healthy and young. It was late eighties when I first heard her, thanks to Terry Wogan or Radio 2. ❤️
I miss Nanci so much! My late husband and I loved her concerts in Seattle in the 80s. When I hear one of her songs, it transports me back to those wonderful days.
Thank you Lord for Nanci and everything she was! I so enjoyed her music, first seeing her in Telluride with a dreadnought guitar, a sun dress and just a wonderful ability to draw the crowd into her world, all alone on that big stage. Lord, may she rest in your everlasting arms!!
One of my all time faves, and this version in particular is such a force of solace and salvation. Many hearts will have mended listening to this, and so it'll never grow old.
Nancy is just so cute in this performance. Sparkling eyes, beautiful hair, and fun-filled expression on her face while she tells her story. Her voice is so pure except when she throws in a little growl for emphasis. The little dance step at 1:55 is adorable. This is my favorite of all her performances on RUclips. My next favorite is "Love at the Five and Dime" as she tells the story about Woolworth's elevator chime.
0:01 Oh, I wish it would rain And wash my face clean I want to find some dark cloud to hide in here Love in a memory Sparkled like diamonds When the diamonds fall they burn like tears 0:32 Once I had a love from the Georgia pines Who only cared for me I wanna find that love of twenty-two Here at thirty-three I've got a heart on my right One on my left neither suits my needs No, the one I love lives a-way out West And he never will need me 0:55 Oh, I wish it would rain And wash my face clean I want to find some dark cloud to hide in here Love in a memory Sparkled like diamonds When the diamonds fall they burn like tears 1:26 I'm gonna pack up my two step shoes And head for the Gulf Coast plains I wanna walk the streets of my own hometown Where everybody knows my name I wanna ride the waves down in Galveston When the hurricane blow in 'cause that Gulf Coast water tastes sweet as wine When your heart's rollin' home in the wind 1:49 Oh, I wish it would rain And wash my face clean I want to find some dark cloud to hide in here Love in a memory Sparkled like diamonds When the diamonds fall they burn like tears 2:18 When the diamonds fall, darlin' They burn like tears
I thought I met her in Tallahassee, florida in late 1970's.....I must be wrong according to the biography....oh well we were all young then.....I must be mistaken
I Love this Song to play along with my Mandolyn . . . . as with ALL her Songs ! Discovered & fell in-Love with her 95 when I first heard "Other Voices . . . Other Rooms " & have not turned back ! Saw her in Albuquerque in 98 & handed her a Poem I wrote about her & how she made me fall in Love with Music all over again . . . I Hoped it moved her as much as her Music has moved me !
I wish it would rain wash my face clean I want a dark cloud to hide in me love in a memory sparkles like diamonds when the diamonds fall it burns like tears
I'll never forget the way I felt on the first listen to "Other Voices, Other Rooms." ( I owned 3 or 4 of her CD's by then )"Across the Great Divide," "Turn Around," "and especially "Comin' Down in the Rain" had a beautiful, melancholy mood ( if that makes sense ), which matched the blue mood I was in the day I bought the CD. It's been years since I've listened, but I bet I'll still feel nostalgic, and maybe a little blue.
Very sad news today. This was the first song of Nanci’s I heard. I had never really listened to any artists of her genre before, being more of a hard rock fan, but she opened a door for me that significantly expanded my musical boundaries. RIP Nanci, I love your work.
I had the exact same experience, then spent years exploring everything she did.
Same here: as a 20 something, country and folk held little interest to me until something made me buy little love affairs - and hearing Nanci's glorious voice for the first time blew me away. Yes, saw her for the first time on Austin City Limits in the 80's singing this song, and that was IT for me.....
I have to say,Tim, I'm in the same boat, I came to hear her music in 2017,..been a fan ever since.
Rest in peace Nancy, It feels like I have just lost one of my best friends tonight!
one of the few musicians I've cried when I heard the news. I feel like I've lost a friend.
I feel the same 😭
her and John Prine...@@sarahgilchrist7673
For me, Nanci will be forever frozen just like this.
I don’t think I realized it until I read your comment, but that is exactly what I’ve been feeling these past couple of years.
Aw it's so sad 😢💔 that Nanci Griffith is no longer with us 😢 R.I.P Nanci 🙏🌹
I'm still singing these songs with my brother and sister.. Love Nancy... X
When my daughter was almost 2 I was playing this song in my truck. She was in her car seat and though she could barely talk she would sing out "faaaace clean"....it was so cute!!! I will always love this woman's music. From Once in a Very Blue Moon ... and on out. 😪
RIP Nancy, you were one of the greatest, a national treasure to be sure and a fixture in my musical life.
Nanci Griffith, John Prine, Iris DeMent, Tish Hinojosa some of my all time favorites.
Tish Hinojosa! I love music, saw her live on Martha’s Vineyard, learned to sing and play a whole bunch of her songs
Man alive,..this lady is a musical treasure,....
An angel is singing.

So true. She was overlooked by millions who now revere her.
Rest In Peace Nanci.. A bright light gone from our sight but you will forever shine in our hearts and in our souls.. 🙏
A true tragedy
A talented, dignified and understated lady has died and I for one will miss her presence, even though we never met. Thank you Nanci
I saw Ms Nanci play twice in Louisville and if I ever invent a time machine, I will go back in time and help her and save her and help her outlive ms. Ms Nanci. My Louisville bows to your Austin. "Cause that Gulf Coast water tastes sweet as wine....."
Such a soft spoken powerhouse voice! She’s an exercise in contradiction and I thank God for her. Her music has comforted and healed me over the years!
This girl is an angel in disguise 💖
John Ager she certainly sounds like one.
"Exercise in contradiction" indeed! I want to describe her as a meek powerhouse, or a gentle forest fire or something. What a beautiful soul and a great loss.
@@markw4206 I hadn’t heard of her passing!! That’s just awful 😢 I’m sitting here with tears😭
@@faithcampbell1632 Yes, it's crushing - no other way to put it! Been a fan since the late 80s here.
I remember exactly where I was when I heard her voice for the first time....hooked!...Love her voice, always will xxx
Me too, not many I can say that about.
Andy Kershaw played tracks from the newly released Lone Star State Of Mind LP on his radio show, blew me away.
Me too. In a Woolworths store. Stocking up on unnecessary plastic items. I was also hooked. RIP Nancy x
My first voice crush, don't git much better ...it's rainin in my world rest easy Nanci ,,,harmonies and angels
Im a Townes fan and following his path also led to find Nancy. What a talent. She has felt v much part of my music family for years. We will miss this drlightful woman

Nanci 'sparkles like diamonds'....she will be sorely missed. RIP, Angel, your music will live on 'til the end of time.
Proud to say I knew her back in the Houston, Rockefellers, Lyle Lovett days. RIP.
Rockefellers
Wow.
A lot of singers got their start there.
Used to cover this song and several other of Nanci's tunes in a band i was in, she was a shining light back in the 80's when good music was at a premium , in the following decades her standards never dropped and the world is a sadder place without her in it . RIP Nanci

Helluva a performer. Her charisma dominates the stage.

Nanci Griffith was so talented and she always had great musicians play with her. Such a great musical treasure!

Little Love Affairs is my all time favorite Nanci Griffith album.
Health is like the weather - you don't control it; it controls you. Such a pleasure to have heard this wonder of country girl singing !
Oh Oh Oh this is lovely. Thank you for posting.
She was great. Listened to her since the 80's.
God bless her, RIP Nanci... we'll keep on listening. Thank you for all of the great music.
One of the Prettiest Ladies to grace the stage She could melt my heart with her smile any time

Ffs. spare us sane people all your religious crap.
She had a Dorothy from the Wizard of Oz innocence. No matter what, she just could not be sunk. Loving her spirit - but I wish it would rain.
Nancy what a talent...greatly missed x
Singers like this bring more joy to the world than the whole bunch of politicians
love in a memory...sparkles like diamonds indeed...and it doesn't have to be romantic love. The past is sooooo seductive.
This is wonderful! What a musical soul… that 3rd verse 🥰
That deserved a standing ovation and roses thrown at her feet : )
Rest in peace, beautiful Nanci. Tonight is a blue moon and I am sending up a prayer for you.

She is so amazing and talented but also.....so beautiful.

Love when she just lets herself enjoy the music !
What brilliant writing, what a great performance.
I love her cuteness and quirky voice. She never would marry me tho, and HELL YES I hold it against her! 🤭
i have all of her albums on 33 vinyl records

A true Texas treasure.
0:01 Oh, I wish it would rain
And wash my face clean
I want to find some dark cloud to hide in here
Love in a memory
Sparkled like diamonds
When the diamonds fall they burn like tears
0:32 Once I had a love from the Georgia pines
Who only cared for me
I wanna find that love of twenty-two
Here at thirty-three
I've got a heart on my right
One on my left neither suits my needs
No, the one I love lives a-way out West
And he never will need me
0:55 Oh, I wish it would rain
And wash my face clean
I want to find some dark cloud to hide in here
Love in a memory
Sparkled like diamonds
When the diamonds fall they burn like tears
1:26 I'm gonna pack up my two step shoes
And head for the Gulf Coast plains
I wanna walk the streets of my own hometown
Where everybody knows my name
I wanna ride the waves down in Galveston
When the hurricane blow in
'cause that Gulf Coast water tastes sweet as wine
When your heart's rollin' home in the wind
1:49 Oh, I wish it would rain
And wash my face clean
I want to find some dark cloud to hide in here
Love in a memory
Sparkled like diamonds
When the diamonds fall they burn like tears
2:18 When the diamonds fall, darlin'
They burn like tears
