    Two friends of mine, Cyril Grandet and Dominique Bardini, won Le Mans in 1974 in a private entry 365GTB4 when the works Ferraris all had to retire with various problems, at which point the Ferrari mechanics all came to help the private team that was still on the track.. Dominique, who did the last two hours, confirmed to me that the car was a real handful to drive, as mentioned here, but he got there in the end..

      Le Mans '74 was won by Pescarolo and Larrousse in a Matra. The Grandet/Bardini Daytona finished 5th - which is still pretty creditable for a road-going GT car. With a top speed of only 186, the Daytona was never going to be in contention for an outright win,

    Hi Coleen. This car looks like the one that won 1st in class (2nd overall) at the 1979 24 hours of Daytona. My father prepared the engine for the race over at Modena Sport Cars (on Ardmore and Santa Monica Blvd). I remember the engine roaring so loudly that the windows of the building rattled and my dad laughing because he knew the car was a winner. They loaded up this and another car like it to transport to Florida. My dad brought the trophy home that year. Circa 2005, he had the trophy restored and shipped to be with the car. This car represents so much for so many people. I feel fortunate to have found your video. Thank you.

I saw one of them two years running at the Tour Auto in France, belonging to an english team (husband and wife). Absolutely awesome. The diabolical man himself, that being - Evel Knievel - Owned a slightly modded Daytona and stated that whilst he had big cube V8 power in the garage across quite a few cars. Nothing was like emptying a tank of gas in the Daytona across the desert heading into Las Vegas at well beyond 200km/h+ most of the way. Possibly one of Enzo's finest achievements - race or road -...

      @matthewlange8616 Год назад +1

      There may be some truth in this as an Italianised word Daitona has been found imprinted on parts on very early examples. However it could also have been that Ferrari did not own the copyright to the Daytona name - there was a Dodge Charger Daytona in 69 and Shelby had already used Daytona on the coupe versions of the Cobra, plus there was the Triumph Daytona motorcycle. I'm not sure if there is a definitive answer that the name was ever to be used at all (beyond maybe an internal project name) or was dropped at the last minute?
