As a heavy equipment tech, I can attest that many people do put diesel fuel in the water tanks, and vice-verse...….just the reality of renting machines to people who are often untrained or ignorant of proper machine use.
BTW, I love Jay's knowledge and appreciation of cars, but its fun to see him out of his element once in a while!
A friend of mine borrowed his mini crane to a local business. When he got it back, he found they put oil in the diesel tank. :D Never underestimate the power of stupid. It's the driving force behind evolution. Or in the case of some of these jacks, involution...

I am a licenced operator of a Ride on roller and It was refreshing to see Jay covering construction equipment - hope we get to see some more amazing TONKA type vehicles.
Mr. Leno is proving he can ask very logical and intelligent questions even for unusual vehicles.

It’s so funny how even I at 58 years young still see one of these and refer to it as a steamroller.
I'm 38, use to work site prep construction for a few years in my early - mid 20's, and call it a steamroller, as that's just what we did.
i'm 26 and i'd call it a steamroller. no idea why.
It's what everyone knows, and it's an easy reference.

in the late 80s i worked for a new home builder and in order to get roads put in around the weather and seasons i got roped into driving the vibrating rollers for several weekends in a row to compact the dirt you would think that driving up and down a soon to be paved street would be a easy job but a combination of the summer hat the sun and the constant vibration and noise of the machine you would be exhausted at the end of a day almost as bad as doing physical labor all day long as well as being a filthy mess from all the dust and wearing almost every cup of coffee any one would hand you during the day as there wasn’t any good way to drink or store a cup of it while still trying to compact the areas i can relate to what Jay was talking about on how amazingly easy it is to maneuver a machine that heavy thanks to all the hydraulic assistance i understand the concept and how hydraulics do operate yet it still seams to be a little mystical and magic when you are on top of something that heavy and large turning it with one finger and very little force

I know, right? Jay just happens to be one hell of an interviewer. It was kind of cool watching him ask all the right questions - a real pro!
I think part of the reason for Jay's channel being such a success is that he can laugh at himself occasionally. He just doesn't take everything seriously. This is entertaining even if he can't roll this thing up on stage!!
He did it fellas, he reviewed every car ever made and now has to move on to industrial equipment
Jay if you like this you are going to love railway laying machines. Once they railway has been levelled and ballast laid there is machinery that automatically lay sleepers, tamp tracks to them and roll along on the newly built tracks as they go and all they need is people to keep feeding them.

I’m a vintage tractor collector and would love to see you do a couple videos on farm tractors from the 20s, 30s or 40s. I think you would find it very interesting.

He's done at least one with a steam tractor. I have always loved those things. Spent a lot of time at a steam museum where they had trains, tractors, boats. Love watching those monstrosities run.
Skeeter McBeater yea I know. But that’s like comparing a T model the a mustang. Completely different era. That Lambo is late 60s which is essentially very similar to tractors used today. Where as stuff from the 20s and 30s was before 3 point linkage and also PTOs we’re not particularly common.
Thor yea I’ve seen that and it’s great. That’s why I think he should do one on what essentially replace the steam traction engine.
A Minneapolis-Moline UDLX would be a good tractor for him to review.
I've ran one and they will beat your spine out of your back! I had it at my place paving roads on my property and my mother in law came to visit and said she always wanted to run one! So guess what? She got one checked off her bucket list! And I got to be her favorite son in law, even though I'm her only son in law, lol!
I’m waiting for jay to add a decommissioned tatra 8x8 Soviet missile carrier to his collection! He already has a tatra car now he needs a truck to go into the “Tatra section of his garage” LOL!

I really enjoyed the Case IH Quadtrac you did- you’re basically the reason why my parents got me one to use on the ranch instead of a regular wheeled unit.
The tracks help me because I don’t bog down in the lower pastures by the river. And it’s a long trek from the shop I park it in to the river bottom-23 miles.

I worked on heavy equipment back in the seventies and eighties and the biggest problem I had with rollers was people putting to much oil in the vibratory/eccentric cavity in each roller wheel. It needs just enough to lube the roller bearings but folks thought it needed to be filled, which just caused so much friction it would heat the drum to the point of making it so hot it would burn you if you touched it. Taking apart one of those wheels by yourself in the field and the first thing you did when called out for overheating problems and you drained the oil before you did anything else.
Made in my old hometown in Sweden and I used to work extra after school in my fathers printingfactory packing manuals for them to ship worldwide

The Nurburgring lap time for this must be out of this world.
I drove one of those, as heavy as this. Very exciting when I was working on a walkway on the outside of the ordinary road, before the safety fence was build. Usually not that exciting, but here it was a 300 foot drop straight down, vibrating loose mass there. Had to have chains tied to a truck, which followed me slavishly.
That water tank question reminded me of the time I put PS fluid in my Snowblower crankcase in..the dark didn't realize it until the next day and saw the bottle. In my defense, the O'Reilly oil & PS fluid bottles are identical labels other than the text of course

I'd like to see more heavy equipment on here. I didn't know they incorporated a vibratory system with the rollers I wonder how long they've been doing that, and why that idea took them so long to come up with. they used to have to use a vibrator type compactor separately before and after they rolled it with the old water filled "steam" rollers. I don't care if it's not steam hell it hasn't been steam driven since ... I don't know when for sure but probably in the early part of the 20'th centrury or maybe the late part of the 19th century. Still we called them steam rollers, just sounds cooler than just roller.
Would love to see Jay cover some more older heavy equipment. Like some ww2 and prior equipment. Company i worked at a few years ago had a crane from the 20s that they'd paid to have restored N we all took turns running it once finished a memory ill cherrish forever. Sitting here at work waiting for my 930k front end loader to warm up and start the day, thanks Jay for the entertainment as usual.

I love the idea that Wichitaw used to have hills until these guys started doing road tests around the factory!
Now I realize why they are so noisy. I learned something today!
The people that built the bypasses out here in the Midwest traded some money into pockets to avoid having to properly compact the roads down and you can already tell it; less than two years later and they're cracking/falling apart where as the ones from 10 years ago that were properly put down still are fairly fine with minor wear here and there but nothing that cause problems like the "new" roads.
Awesome video man I love it. I started on one of these couple years ago.

I remember the old hand pushed rollers where you filled the drum with water to weigh it down.
In short and simple words: Dynapack is a Swedish company and this guy is allowed to put the different components (all made in Sweden) together for the american market.
Cool machine there I used to operate an older one they were yellow and taller too
