Hot Landings in the Mi-8 Hip

This was an awesome sortie on Enigma's Cold War Server. We take the Mi-8 Hip out for some hot landings as we drop troops within very close proximity to an enemy airfield. I hope this will be an informative look at how I do my landings and pick ups when they need to be relatively quick. really wish the Hip had the transmission overspeed condition and fault modelled, so you can see your rotor exiting stage left when we pull those super steep attitudes with almost no blade pitch. I find it useful if I need to protect my tail rotor when hard breaking to just kick the pedals for out of trim, turn sideways and cyclic flare left or right instead of aft, at least this way you also slow down super fast bc of the drag. Nice flying btw, a bit impatient on the pullup from the ground, you can see/hear the rotor speed droop as you pull steep pitch too fast, manual says 1deg/s max, lol.
Oh yeah you could get away with a lot in this lol You're supposed to have at least 2-2.5 deg of pitch in at minimum but yeah like you said they don't really model any overspeed damage. Sometimes I fly with those limitations in mind but that night I didn't particularly care because I wanted to take that airfield down lol

I don't do PvP in DCS but I always wondered if it isn't a catch 22 with helicopters. If you fly high every radar will pick you up but if you fly low DCS will make sure you leave a massive dust / snow cloud behind you giving your position away. So either way you should be done for when an enemy jet passes by.
Oh yeah it can be rough. The way DCS is working, AWACS will see a helicopter about 5 feet off the ground from out to 250nm. With EWR stations it generally more realistic with LOS and intermittent detection. PVP servers like ECW here will have player reports to tell them what the EWR/AWACS is seeing so you're usually screwed if you aren't right on the deck.
Good thing most players are so task saturated on the frontline a helicopter zipping around at 270kph on the deck against some trees as background clutter is easy fairly to miss. The challenge of surviving in a PVP environment makes the troop landings really rewarding when you're successful.

Hmm you may not have the latest version. Do you see a relatively small amount of servers in the MP list?
Latest version is: DCS 2.9.4.53990 Is that what it says for you when you load the game up?

@@HaVoC117X Can you see the servers? There is only one that you would be able to join the other that says ECW DEV is not for public use but a testing one. If you can see the regular ECW server and cannot join then you may be banned for some reason? You'd have to hop on their discord if that is the case. If you cannot see their server at all and you are up to date then try and direct connect to their IP address 176.9.116.10:10308 The name of the public server is Enigma's Dynamic Cold War Campaign PVP/PVE
Another thing is the server sometimes is on the Syria map so you will not be able to join if it is on the Syria map and you do not own it.
