Wish I could give more than 1 like! I think I will make a 3 nozzle sprayer. I already have a few things on the list such as battery and battery tender along with a plethora of hardware.
It is pretty heavy. 12 gallons of water makes it pretty heavy. It is totally doable. 4 wheel would be out unless it was gas powered self propel. I need maneuverability.
Conner is a guy on the ball. Conner saves us all time by just getting to the POINT on things. He is a very good demonstrator on how to build things correctly. And his videos are effective. Not alot of time consuming yapping to get to the point. Conner is RIGHT-ON. His pace is the pace our country is moving. We have alot in our buckets list to get done. Conner's videos are direct and to the point. ***** Thanks Conner.
I like the looks of that quick disconnect for the boom. What brand/part is that? I didn't see it listed on the parts list, unless I'm totally looking over. Great video/solid work!
The parts list and detailed instructions you give are excellent. It really helps other DIY folks like me learn what exactly has to happen. Excellent material. Thank you.
So let me get this right, 12 gallon tank and that pump runs at 5.5 gallons per minute, so in about 2 minutes you are almost empty? Seems like maybe you need a Bigger tank and a Smaller output pump!
Nice spayer! Just built one for my zero turn. Bought the 10 gal tank and pump from norther too. I only have two nozzles but it sprays just outside my rear tires making it easy to see where I sprayed. I cover 25k sqft in two loads in about 45 minutes.
If you live in a rural area you can try the farmers co-op or a local at supply house. Otherwise tractor supply may have thwm. We always get our tips from our local co-op, they're brass and fairly cheap.
Good information except for when soldering electrical connections. NEVER use acid flux it will lead to problems. ALWAYS use a resin flux core solder made for electrical work.
why not just buy a boom sprayer for an ATV for $150 bucks and slap it on top of your spreader or wheelbarrow or whatever? I heard 600 bucks and was like...damn!
What height from the ground is the boom? And what’s the difference in the two spray nozzles? Great video. Gonna follow this for a build for my zero turn.
Hi I'm curious about the spray tips. On the spray smarter website, there are the options for just the spray tip, and then also for the spray tip and cap, but the pictures look the same. Is the Cap literally just a Cap to cover the tip when not in use? Or is it something that affects function? Thanks!
Let's see you try to maneuver into tight corners with a sprayer in a wagon. Remember... You can not over apply the product. You need to get an even distribution of product even in the hard to reach spots like corners, curves, and edges. The spreader with the 2 wheel pivoting capability is the best option. The 80 lb spreader is also a spreader for my granulars. I had the spreader already. Why would I want another piece of equipment when I already have the best option for the job?
Hi Connor, Thank you for this great DIY video on sprayer. I would like to make a DIY battery powered backpack sprayer. I already have suitable nozzles, the pipe, a 12v Dc 80Psi 1.1 GPM diaphragm Pump, and I can source a suitable 20 liter plastic container. On watching your illustration, you quickly mentioned a “pressure relief valve with drain back”. I didn’t quite digest or see how the “drain back” feature works. I would like you to explain the details of that pressure relief valve with special emphasis on the drain back feature, if you don’t mind Sir. Is the valve modified to have drain back, or does it have that feature directly on purchase ? Thank you in advance for your consideration and I hope to apply this technology in my 2 acre garden. Regards, Jesse.
I’m in the process of building a broadcast spray set up for my zero turn but Correct me if I’m wrong....based off your nozzle selection the teejet red xrc has an output of .54 gallons per 1,000 sqft at 15 psi all the way up to 1.1 gallons per 1000 sqft at 60 psi at 3 mph which is the average human walking speed...... 5 nozzle boom defiantly exceeds the normal 1 gallon per 1000 sqft....just trying to wrap my head around this
Ouch, $600 for just the sprayer part? and the spreader you put it on cost $500. That's a lot for a sprayer. I have a lesco spreader and I like it I have a pull behind sprayer on my garden tractor. Thinking of converting it to 3 point so I can get closer and back up easier.
I have a LESCO wheeled sprayer which I think they only made for like one year now turf ex makes them It’s a single nozzle in the front sprays about 7 to 9 feet I just got it would you know what would be the best nozzle to put on there for West end enough GPM
Do you have any recommend on what nozzles to use if I only wanted 3 nozzles to still cover 10 ft? My pump is only 2.2 GPM and think 3 is the max. Would I just space them out further and raise the height? Different nozzles too? Thanks for your help.
This I would not be able to assist you in. I am not very well versed in the nozzles. Here is a good resource for you to read. thelawnforum.com/viewtopic.php?f=4&t=33
Never understood why they put such big front lawns on houses. No one ever spends time in their front yard unless they are working on their lawns or flowers. Big back yards are where it's at.
You said earlier in the video, the battery lasts about an hour... how do I recharge it? or would it be easier to just use a larger car battery or marine battery. plz help. total noob
Connor, I am in the middle planning a similar sprayer to tow behind my lawn tractor. I was thinking of going 6 nozzles. I have so many questions for you. Love to know what nozzles you ended up going with, and wondered if you are happy with the pump. You got a 5.5gpm 60psi pump. I was thinking more in terms of a 1.8gpm 100psi pump. I would love your thoughts. [Edit] I downloaded your parts list. Very nice. Are you happy with your nozzle/pump setup? After calibration, are you getting the flow and coverage you expected?
You should try Sketchup. It's a FREE modeling CAD program that you can design anything with. For instance, I've modeled everything from a little Arduion board, to my entire property here (including all the underground pipes, wire, and drains. Even the septic tank). The trick is to get as exact a measurements as possible. Then you can test new ideas, move furniture around, or just use the model to check a measurement without having to go out and check it again... On your sprayer there. I think I would have used a couple pieces of 2x4 to set the tank on. But with your althread rods, you should think about adding some rubber tubing on them to keep them from wearing through the plastic tank.
That rubber tubing is in the plan. Just have not got around to it. Someone else suggested that. That's a must for sure. I did not want added weight with something bigger like a 2x4. With the 12 gallon tank it's flipping heavy
Nice, I would probably pull this instead pushing (or mount to yard cart) to avoid having the product blown back on me or walking through it. You have an high end spreader and I wouldn't want to mess that up.
Great idea!! Definitely building me one of these!!! Need it for my gravel driveway(I hate seeing grass growing in my gravel driveway) and my ditch with granite rocks. Thank you for these detailed video and parts video!!
I got the exact same pump. Yours has two red wires going to the head on the end of the pump. My pump only came with one red wire. Also there are 3 spade connectors on the end of the pump. Can you tell me which two you used and if your pump came with the two red wires?
I was wondering why you had the "TEEJET XRC EXTENDED RANGE FLAT SPRAY TIPS Color Red" (XRC11004-VS) and the "TEEJET AIC AIR INDUCTION FLAT SPRAY TIP & CAP Color Red" (AIC11004-VS). Are they both needed or just choose one or the other?
The air induction tips are for products that are soil applied like a pre emergent or a pesticide bug control product. These tips spray a coarse droplet. The other fan tips spray a fine mist and are for foliar applied products like plant growth regulator, liquid iron or some micros.
I'm concerned about the cost of the spreader itself. It was over $500 on Amazon last time I checked. Could you possibly recommend a more budget friendly spreader that is sturdy enough to handle the 110+ pounds of weight you have there? I wonder if a little Radio Flyer pull wagon, or something along those lines, could handle the weight? It doesn't necessarily HAVE to be a spreader, does it? My spreader is too flimsy to handle the weight and yours is too expensive for me.
I've built almost the same setup as what you've got, but I'm finding that I'm blowing the 7.5A fuses in-line between the battery and pump when it turns on. Did you have to bump up the size of the fuses? The pump has a max amps of 17A but the cables that came with the battery tender only have a 7.5A fuse in-line...
Very nice work but poor design in that you are spraying ahead of the path you walk. Best if spray is behind you. Whether fertilizer or herbicide, you certainly don't want to walk over what you just sprayed.
Great video. 600 dollars is a bit much for this DIY project that I would think a commercially manufactured unit might be available if you look on the internet. That said, I commend you for your inventiveness. Changes I would make would be to use a wheel barrow to mount the tank or a hand truck that might be less cost than the spreader you used.
Linesman splice check that wire connection out. It's the best and it makes you feeling like a boss. You've inspired me to be a better lawn keeper which equals a better man.
Very nice and I like how you make it look professionally done as opposed to just slapdash throwing it together with baling wire and duct tape. One possible upgrade I can think of...for a winter project you could remove the push handles and add a tongue to the spreader so that you could pull it behind your zero turn or lawn tractor. The on/off switch would have to be moved, but that would be no big deal.
Nicely done. Suggestion, maybe rotate the tank 180 so the pump is on the backside of the axle also maybe move the battery behind the tank. This should help with the balance and tipping forward. Nice touch with the quick release to remove the boom.
Nicely done. I assume you have a constant, repeatable ground (walk) speed? It would certainly easier to use on flat turf as opposed to some hills. Also, with all day long usage, does your walking speed may change due to tiredness.
Connor, you inspired me to build a smaller, 3 nozzle version of this boom sprayer to sit in my Earthway spreader. I have a question on the battery..... How did you decide on the amp hours of the battery? I see your pump pulls a max of 17 amps, so are you thinking you should get an hour of spraying before you need to recharge? Also, after using your sprayer, are you satisfied with your battery choice?
yes I am satisfied with the battery choice. I really did not put a whole lot of thought into the battery. It was only like 30$ so I figured that if it works for a few years then I would be good and then I could get a new one. I just wanted to get a batter with the most amp hours without spending too much money. I have never run out of battery when using it. I have 20 sq ft of lawn and it has not failed me yet. This could be because it is new and on its first season. I do however keep it on the batter tender when I am not using it so it is always at full charge when not in use.
Wow... your subsriber numbers have jumped up a lot lately. You are putting out great content
Got me thinking of making a quadcopter sprayer.
You are now required to put out at least 5 videos per day for my personal entertainment!!!! Great video, I really hope you keep them coming!!!!!
Wish I could give more than 1 like! I think I will make a 3 nozzle sprayer. I already have a few things on the list such as battery and battery tender along with a plethora of hardware.
Connor- are you putting the NEXT products through this? Have you had any issues?
Yes I'm using them. No issues. Only done like one or 2 apps so far. Good stuff
Nice work, really impressive. What's your background in tinkering/engineering/putting-shit-together that gave you the skillset to do this?
ryeguy01 lol....”tinkering ....and.... putting shit together” hahaha! 😂
No real back ground. It was easy. Anyone could do this. I have been tinkering my whole life. Been around tools my whole life.
Just a small amount on the tip? You’ve been watching too much LCN.
Yeah probably so. Been watching every week for years now.
Haha that would cover my whole lawn in one pass!
Very very nice. Would you ever consider a 4 wheel spreader and maybe a larger tank? How is the current weight when full?
It is pretty heavy. 12 gallons of water makes it pretty heavy. It is totally doable. 4 wheel would be out unless it was gas powered self propel. I need maneuverability.
Midnight Monoculture
I was think of using an old lawn mower as a 4 wheel base Maybe put on some larger tires.

How high are nozzles mounted off ground? Going to build but not use spreader to mount on.
20" off ground. 20" spacing

Thanks for posting this Connor. I got some great ideas from your plans. Best looking lawn on RUclips!

Sweet build. Kudos to the attention to detail and quality of the build.
Or you could order one from gregson-clark that's already assembled
Just waiting on my tank and I'll have me a Connor sprayer. Thanks again for the parts list.

Very impressive bit of engineering.
I patterned it after the Clarkson Greg.
Heard your name dropped on another channel. Glad I came to check it out. Great content, keep up the nice work! Your lawn is beautiful.
Oh yeah? Who's channel?
I noticed on your parts list there are 2 different TeeJet models. Do you change jets based on what you are applying?
I’m in the process of building a broadcast spray set up for my zero turn but Correct me if I’m wrong....based off your nozzle selection the teejet red xrc has an output of .54 gallons per 1,000 sqft at 15 psi all the way up to 1.1 gallons per 1000 sqft at 60 psi at 3 mph which is the average human walking speed...... 5 nozzle boom defiantly exceeds the normal 1 gallon per 1000 sqft....just trying to wrap my head around this
seems like one could just buy a tow behind spayer with a boom for ~$5-600 vs this one at $1000+ and you're doing all the work and no warranty.
Money you spend it almost buy a pull behind sprayer
Ouch, $600 for just the sprayer part? and the spreader you put it on cost $500. That's a lot for a sprayer. I have a lesco spreader and I like it I have a pull behind sprayer on my garden tractor. Thinking of converting it to 3 point so I can get closer and back up easier.
I was first a yr ago remember
I'm starting to build one of these to use commercially. How long do you think the battery would last and still run the pump effectively?

Connor Ward thanks. That’s a great post and I’m starting to learn. It looks like all the tips are recommended at 20” apart though.
I'd pay you great money to build me one of these
Muy chingona amigo
Never understood why they put such big front lawns on houses. No one ever spends time in their front yard unless they are working on their lawns or flowers. Big back yards are where it's at.
Add a foamer?

Search deltran battery tender junior
4 nozzle boom sprayer. RUclips Kenneth Houk. Thanks again!
I am so glad I stumbled on this "how to". Just what I was looking for. Thanks so much Connor!
This is amazing, but what i dont like you are always walking into your Pesticide you are spraying.
I built same sprayer but my output is 2 gal to 1000sqft do I need to open regulator to let some product back into tank to get the 1 gal per 1000
Thanks Conner and by the way, GREAT LAWN BROTHER !

Check out Chapin 12 Gallon Battery Operated Push Sprayer .
Thanks for measurements! Have 23,000 sq of yard. Going to build a unit! Thanks
Thanks a lot, that build is amazing!!
Very clever and cost-effective solution to lugging around a backpack sprayer with a boom fitted onto it.
Cost effective? Over $1000 you're a ball licker.
Please, send me the part list
have you tried to use this setup to spray out a compost extract? Im curious if the sprayers would get clogged with particulate matter.

Does liquid fertilizer need to absorb into the soil and get taken up by the roots or is it absorbed directly into the blades?
Nice, I would probably pull this instead pushing (or mount to yard cart) to avoid having the product blown back on me or walking through it. You have an high end spreader and I wouldn't want to mess that up.
thank you, a great project for next year as it is a pain having to use a backpack sprayer for 1/2 acre lawn. This will really make things easier.
May have already been mentioned by someone else but Teflon tape is not for preventing leaks. It is a lubricant for threads to glide together easier.
Great video. Great tutorial. But a similar sprayer has been available for many yrs.
This is awesome. So nice to see a lawn care guy that can build something!
Great idea!! Definitely building me one of these!!! Need it for my gravel driveway(I hate seeing grass growing in my gravel driveway) and my ditch with granite rocks. Thank you for these detailed video and parts video!!
Hi Connor, where can I get the bulkhead fittings you used to install the pressure valve on the tank?
I got the exact same pump. Yours has two red wires going to the head on the end of the pump. My pump only came with one red wire. Also there are 3 spade connectors on the end of the pump. Can you tell me which two you used and if your pump came with the two red wires?
Never mind I figured it out.

I absolutely love this, what you think about about an air pump pressurizing the tank instead of the material having to go through a water pump?
I'm concerned about the cost of the spreader itself. It was over $500 on Amazon last time I checked. Could you possibly recommend a more budget friendly spreader that is sturdy enough to handle the 110+ pounds of weight you have there?

My spreader is too flimsy to handle the weight and yours is too expensive for me.
Building one now. I'm at about $250 in parts.
Thank you thank you thank you for this. But why why why would you use your 430 dollar spreader!?
I've built almost the same setup as what you've got, but I'm finding that I'm blowing the 7.5A fuses in-line between the battery and pump when it turns on. Did you have to bump up the size of the fuses? The pump has a max amps of 17A but the cables that came with the battery tender only have a 7.5A fuse in-line...
yeah same here. I use the 15a or 20 a fuses
do somthing like that maybe pull it on the back of a lawn tractor. can you seed with it?
Very nice work but poor design in that you are spraying ahead of the path you walk. Best if spray is behind you. Whether fertilizer or herbicide, you certainly don't want to walk over what you just sprayed.
Thank you sir. Just walk backwards if that's your thing. I prefer to walk forward although I have used it several times to spray and walk backwards.
9:36 most important tip :)
I can buy this for less than $200 ...
www.northerntool.com/shop/tools/product_200727337_200727337
I really wanted to build this...until I checked the parts lol. Might still do it but going to scale it down to suite my yard.
Linesman splice check that wire connection out. It's the best and it makes you feeling like a boss. You've inspired me to be a better lawn keeper which equals a better man.
Can some one help me please? I can’t find this guys email, I’d like to have the parts list and can’t find his email
Connor@lawnrebel.com
Thanks for the response and email!!
Cant get the doc to load . What’s expected total cost ? Thanks
LOOK AT THAT FUCK'N YARD!!!!! I SAY GOD DAMN!
If you use a lithium battery would you get more time out of it
Very nice and I like how you make it look professionally done as opposed to just slapdash throwing it together with baling wire and duct tape. One possible upgrade I can think of...for a winter project you could remove the push handles and add a tongue to the spreader so that you could pull it behind your zero turn or lawn tractor. The on/off switch would have to be moved, but that would be no big deal.
Did u say 600$$ northern has the for 300 or less u could pull with lawn mower. JS. Nice attention to detail
Those are junk. I just bought one. Junk parts. Also no battery
Looking for a sprayer wand/tip that won’t leak! Having a hard time finding it. Any help?
Search "teejet dripless nozzle body" you'll find one. Also search "cf vavle"
What Tee Jet nozzles did you use for this build
I think I remember another video you said you change the hose size on something to help with the pressure fluctuations ?
Great Idea! Why did you leave the hopper on?
How's the spreader handling the additional weight from the sprayer, despite being rated for 80#?
Great question. It is handling it quite well actually.
want to build something like this specifically for liquid weed and feed, except im worried about walking in the wet chemicals
Knee high chemical resistant rubber boots. Rinse them off when you're done.
Great video. Thank you!
Hmm I only have 7k lawn and may build a smaller one. Love the consistent pattern over a backpack sprayer.
I tried downloading your parts list, but it says it has been put in the trash by its owner. Do you have an updated version?
That's weird. Email me wardconnor@hotmail.com
Badass !!!!
That lawn looks fake. Wow
