II. Andante [9:52]
III. Rondo (Allegro) [17:57]
The concerto for two pianos by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart (1756-1791), performed by pianists Alfred Brendel and Imogen Cooper, with conductor Neville Marriner and the Academy of St. Martin-in-the-Fields. Видеоклипы
The spectacular momentum of Mozart's music is unparalleled.
Those classic Mozart moments where just for a short while everything makes sense and what it truly means to be alive is revealed to you.
Beautifully put. I have never read it more profoundly stated.
That phrase from 3rd movement is just musical perfection. Mozart connected a few notes into one of the best melodies of all times here.
Agreed 💛 Mozart from my childhood always my fave composer ... The sweetest yet also most powerful pieces of music my heart has had the pleasure to hear
I'd been collecting classical LP's since I was 10 years old, and had amassed up to 500+ records, reflecting hundreds of composers' works. And then I ultimately replaced them all with CD's in the following years (often the actual recordings/labels/artists from the LP, even) -- and then I divorced my wife & moved away, intending to return for all of my records and tapes... which she had since sold at a yard sale right after I left.
Well, this is one of those beloved and special lost recordings, and I believe it is the absolute best in quality & musicianship. I believe (on my original LP) it was on the Philips label, and also included the K242 Concerto for 2 pianos. These two play like conjoined twins, their phrasing well articulated, dovetailing perfectly.
So - THANK YOU for posting this! Made my day!
I have this on a Soviet Melodiya CD from 1990 which is together with the concerto for 3 pianos, F major, KV242. It is one of my favourite discs. Luckily, I didn't make mistake to leave it with my ex wife. ;-)
1. Leave your LP collection to your ex-wife
2. She sells it all for nothing at a stupid yard sale
3. Profit???
Such is the life of an average american
Sue her for theft and criminal damage.
There are many musical masters who create profound, powerful music - but there is only one composer that I have ever heard who created PERFECT music, Flawless. Every note and nuance, superb. Amadeus was accurate in one regard, and perhaps only one. Salieri described Mozart's music as the voice of God. He was right.
Mozart is perfect, but you need to listen more to Bach!
@@fmiyaramusic2462Bach is great of course but doesn't really catch me deep inside.
Beethoven does most of the time.
Mozart does every single moment.
How Brendel (or Cooper, although I believe its Brendel) balances those two chords at 18:56 blows my mind.
I remember fondly when Brendel, Badura and Demus decided to donate the income of the Masterclasses to Imogen as a Scholarship recognition to her great talent: they were so right!!
THAT TRILL AT 4:14 WITH TWO PIANOS SOUNDS AMAZING
Here you are: the best of all possible moments are these ones.
Mozart should have written more of these double concertos for pianos (and sonatas as well). This is some of the best stuff he ever wrote!
Agreed. A lot of his early works have a certain character to them that was lost later in his artistic development. Happened to a lot of great composers.
"I never understand why the so called 'experts' would always want to dismiss them"
Same. There are a lot of 'experts' in the classical music world who really don't seem to know what they're talking about. Honestly at this point I have a hard time taking anyone with a degree in composition or musicology seriously, because the truth is just because have studied scores does not make their aesthetic taste better than yours or mine.
I'm guessing that, as a practical matter, opportunities to have two pianos together for performances were rare in Mozart's time, so demand for double piano concertos wasn't huge. Just a guess.
Totally
No... absolutely not. He has written only what was necessary to write.
The second movement is so hearth warming that it brings tears to my eyes every time...
Mozart + Marriner + St. Martin in the Fields = PERFECTION
This is how Mozart intended - play this concerto by sister and brother.
I guess that if he had lived nowadays, MTV would have done poor old Amadeus look like that.
Nah pardon me: MTV would have not noticed that Mozart existed: he made MUSIC.
Thank you for this wonderful performance. I really needed it today xXXX
This piece conveyed the deepest love imaginable!
Originally composed for the Mozart brother and sister and published later.I played this concerto on both piano parts numerous time and never get tired of it.Brendal and Cooper are just fabulous in their interpretation of this work by the 20 year old Mozart.
Lar M cool, but there is not any sister work published? Mozart said that she compose better than him... I would like to know how it sounds like. Maybe Mozart copied something of her sis... ¿no?
This is something all of us never know about.Fanny Mendelssohn asked his well known brother Felix to include some of her composition in the collections of songs without words.I wonder how many of the 62 songs without words are by Fanny Mendelssohn. But Fanny did published some of her works. The most brilliant one is her 4 movements piano trio.A absolutely outstanding composition.
Yeah. His sister may have written something like Brahms we never know about !
I am in love with Mozart !
The musical genius of Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart is without equal in history, as far as I am concerned. Johann Sebastian Bach and Ludwig Van Beethoven are his only serious rivals. There is something so uniquely alive about Mozart's music. It has all the freshness and beauty of a beautiful meadow in spring.
bayreuth79 Ok you sso right, but... Chopin is a so serious rival. For me, Bach, Mozart, Beethoven and Chopin are the best. There is no discussion that Mozart is so much better than them, because he composed at earliest age, a lot of more works than them(counting the time he lived), he staied more time with music than others, so much dedication, so much memory, so less errors... I could keep saying more things that make him better. For exemple, Beethoven and Chopin, copied, over all Beethoven, various melodies of Wolfgang... Also Haydn, that lived and composed before him, copy some of his melodies and style in some pieces... Bach... Bach was a genius, but didn't take risks. Here music presents a similarity that reveals the coward soul of Bach. Then... Mozart Over. And in second place maybe there is Beethoven, for his deaf, and his warrior spirit, that won all his problems with his music... Chopin for creativity and constance win the third place. Schumann Liszt and others copied her style. So Bach is fourth. Others artists stay lower.
bayreuth79 Postdata: Love Tolstoi Haha
Mozart is Mozart but chopin is jesus.
sry but in yuor speciality classific, Gioachino Rossini , Verdi e the best Aria of Puccini are 5-6-7?
y so serious?
Why rivals? Why everything has to be a competition? True music isn't like that... Bach, Mozart, Beethoven, and so many others have been paving together the route to the soul. Fortunately all composers are without equal. Each have their own personality and style!
Just simply...no words can describe the beauty of Mozart's music...Period.
Nobody knows how Mozart invented these melodies. Only with the grace of God one can compose so perfect music.

Wonderful Mozart: None Better.
How relaxing, just lovely and stopped what I was doing to let the music have a beneficial calming presence.
That is one sexy Mozart.
looks like he's had some work done!

Superb! Undoubtedly, this is the definitive performance of this concerto.
I love Mozart!
I cannot tell you how grateful I am! Thank you for uploading this masterpiece. It's on repeat! :)
Highly romanticised portrait of Mozart (Ha!), none the less, great upload. Thank you
AHHHHHHHH TOOK ME 3 HOURS TO FIND THIS SONG! :') So glad I found it.

Two excellent artists in great sync.
Mozart and his sister Nannerl played this at its first peformance. Brendel and Cooper will have to suffice in the absence of a time machine!
Excellent version. Magnificent piece of work. Mozart at his best. Although...Mozart was not Val Kilmer...I mean...from the pic...
Wonderful ! Thank you for posting !
Beautiful. Thank you for posting.
What a marvellous concert this is! Bravo Mozart!
fabulous. thanks for this precious gift.
Miraculous piece, marvellous rendition - absolute master players! Mozart was the greatest musical genius!
I beg to differ. I thought Mozart had all the best tunes and then I realised it was Beethoven who had them all. No tinkly tinkly arpeggios. Just fabulous story telling by music.
@@rehaylock5199 Hello friend.
No worries, you may differ, and I'll not disagree. I like to think I also have my Beethoven days as well (the piano concerto no. 5 - Emperor, his symphonies and the sonatas more than justify your choice). Just as I have my Rimsky-Korsakov summer days, my Tchaikovsky winter afternoons, my Chopin nights rsrrsrs, my Haendel wee hours.... And eventually I'll go back to Mozart at daybreak.
In truth, EVERYONE knows (just as the aforementioned all did) that the REAL MASTER of ALL MELODIES was Herr Johann Sebastian :D and sooner or later, one fine morning we're all going to realize that HE had them all rsrsrsrsr
I also like to think the tinkly tinkly arpeggios were not really Mozart's choice as much as they were ornaments in demand in those Viennese days, and like everyone else in the Holy Roman Empire , Herr Mozart had to bow and play by the rules so as to be able to make a living.
If I may, do check out this one though: ruclips.net/video/D4VV3fPl8eA/видео.html
And many thanx for your comment!
@@rodrigogarciagaray3709 Beethoven's 4th Piano does it for me every time. I was brought up on the Emperor!
@@rehaylock5199 Definitely YES.
I was brought up on three piano concertos: Mozart's K466, Beethoven's Emperor and Tchaikovsky's First Piano Concerto:

Mozart: ruclips.net/video/DqX8X6z34iw/видео.html
Beethoven: ruclips.net/video/hDXWK3W477w/видео.html
@@rehaylock5199 Beethoven's music is full of arpeggios, "tinkly" or otherwise. A lot of his most famous tunes he borrowed from Mozart anyways. The slow movement melody of his Pathetique sonata, for example, was lifted right out of Mozart's c minor piano sonata k.457 second movement, for example and the Ode to Joy theme? One need look no further than Mozart's early sacred work Misericordias Domini, K. 222.

Mark Lee but no video here?😷😷
In my humble opinion, the musical buildup and spiral unwinding at 21:50 is one of the finest moments in all of Mozart for piquant tension and release. The climbing in the minor and falling in the major is thrilling. That said, I am not a fan of the rubato adopted on the falling here. I have always heard the descent in tempo, and it's more fun at a brisk tempo, whereas it loses its force (and point) when slowed for inspection. (Try comparing this same moment in other versions.) That said, probably the whole third movement is too slow. But otherwise, great playing, a crystalline performance.
20:51 They showed no corrections of any kind. - Salieri
Saleri is Mozart Italian opera consultant in real life !
lol whenever I want to find that part I just go down to the comments and search for this. Is usually around 20:30-20:50
@@xzzx4664 20:20 precisely
Well. Let me tell you the reason why it took me three hours to search for this.
It started with me, humming to the tune for the 3rd movement. Then I wondered to myself, where did I heard this from? I remember playing this on repeat as a child. I haven't listened to it for quite a long time.
So I decided to remember, search for the song high and low with only Mozart and the tune as hints to lead me to success.
After 3 hours of a long search and enjoying other different concertos, I found it.
Absolutely fantastic, the best arrangement there is.
Thank you for understanding my journey to searching for the song! Cheers
That's exactly how I rediscover my childhood music.. Love to just browse around taking every possible sidetrack on the way to that one composition I'm actually looking for =]
Lol for this handsome Mozart
Thank you for being there.
Most underrated concerto imo
10:23 is similar to Beethoven's 6th Symphony 2nd movement but I prefer this!
beautiful and .....beautiful

Brilliant. What a blessing Alfred stopped being the wolrd's best accompniest.
wow what a great description, I'd have to agree.
Mozart's music is indescribable. Wouldn't that be a paradox?
This performance/recording was one of the choices on BBC record review 'Building a Library' along with the jusson brothers version, it would be my choice as well!
É uma bela obra. A finura e a graça são evidentes nas transições do finale, mas ao longo de toda a obra há encantadoras réplicas de adornos e ecos deliciosos, principalmente no segundo movimento, que amo em especial.
the 3rd movement is my most favorite!

I believe that this is Mozart's first truly mature concerto. It is a masterwork throughout. I particularly like the horn call that is imitated by the piano left hand. Excellent performance.
Robert Royce i beg to differ. The one right before this is considered his first masterpiece. Concerto 9
Piano concerto for 3 pianos is mature too!! (No 7)

Brendel is forever.
Let me guess:
Alfred Brendel's graduation picture is on the left, Imogen Cooper is in the middle after a not too successful ice bucket challenge, and the impish Mozart is on the right after a Spin The Bottle party with Salieri and friends.
+MrMickeyMouth Have had a good long laugh at that, thanks!
I'm Mozart's reincarnation, and I am upset about being called impish despite the fact that I look somewhat impish. Baha!

Does anyone recognize the melody between 19:36 - 19:43 ? I just can't remember where it reappears.
It's the melody of the finale of the 21st piano concerto.
Mozart talking with himself in his most important concertos is one of the most amazing things there is in Music.
@@2905sidit's pretty similar but not the same.
That picture of Mozart is so unrealistic XD
+Giovanni Battista Vivaldi There are portraits of him made while he was alive and are very different from that aboveXD
+Giovanni Battista Vivaldi The point is that we shouldn't really care about how he looked like, he didn't need to be handsome with that kind of talent.
Yes, if Mozart actually looked that seductive (bedroom eyes) he would never have had time to write any music. He would have been sidetracked by amorous pursuits.
The usual Mozart picture after two bottles of wine
Noe Berengena I completely disagree with all due respect. Methods in detailing faces have improved drastically since those classic portraits of him were done live. Mozart was well known to be very handsome despite what the painters could capture.
es very bueno
Mozart is making me suddenly happy and laughing when I enter into my Weltschmerz consciousness. So we all experience some kind of ecstasy through him. But what is the origin of music ? From where did he get it ? There is no answer from our so great wizards. You have to dive into the Indian spirituality and there you get the answer. Just as the wireless does not produce its music all composers just transmit the music they hear inside. And inside they have the unique capacity to enter the world of music and report from it by writing what their intuition got hold of. Ask any Indian about the origin of music and he will smile and answer. What a question ? All of us were told from our spiritual gurus that music and art and science originate from our Divine Mother, called Mahashakti.
In this way Mozart had a rare opening to the world of happy making music.
Thank you for that comment. It brightens my day whenever someone writes something that reflects a comprehensive grasp of the aesthetic realm. I always turn to Mozart, especially the concertos to get back on track with my program to be the best person I can possibly be.
