I will never forget the first time I finally beat Lance after who knows how many tries. On my last attempt we were both on our last pokemon, Lance of course was a Dragonite. Both HP were red and it was Lance's turn and he fired a Hyper Beam...only for the attack to miss. I hit him with an Ice Beam and won! Single most satisfying victory in a pokemon game I've ever had!

Like as a kid in your head you just fucking screamed "Go" whoever your favorite pokemon is and everything has been for this exact moment and at the height of the music that's whenever everything fucking pops off
This is nostalgia AT ITS BEST! I would stay up so fucking late every night as a kid replaying the Pokémon league champs to level up high enough to wreck lance. And the music was amazing

I played heartgold and I can say that it is not an easy battle.I played through all generations up until generation 6 and that was the hardest battle I had just before red.Everything is easy to beat on his team except for dragonites which are REALLY powerful.Not only it is a sudo legendary with 600 BST,there were no other dragon type pokemon other than dratini line and kingdra back then which kingdra was a trade evolution and you couldn't get dragonite until level 55.Fairies weren't a thing either.So your best bet would be Ice type which is the rarest type up until this day.Other than legendaries and pokemon that came out later,you don't have many options and let me tell ya,lance covered most of them.Lapras?Thunder.Jynx?because of its poor defenses,outrage.Steel types resist dragon but both scizor and steelix are trade evolutions.in short,he is a tough opponent because of the lack of counters to his team.
Lance, while having pokemon that are around 20 levels lower than the last champion, is actually a fairly hard fight, he has 3 fairly strong and tanky dragonites and a charizard that knows flamethrower. Not to mention every single pokemon in his team knows the dreaded hyper beam, so if you don't take each one of them down in one hit, he could use the move at any time. I had to use many revives and hyper potions just to take him down. You may think he's a breeze due to the horrendously low leveled pokemon he has compared to gen 1, but exp is even more scarce in the second gen.
My first team was Noctowl, Lanturn, Hypno, Gyarados(Red) , Ampharos & Typhlosion But as I went to kanto The greatest team I had was Steelix, Dewgong, Hypno, Dragonite, Lugia & Typhlosion

Lol. I tried making these videos interesting by dragging out the battle a bit. Unfortunately, everytime I used Sleep Talk it used Rest, which became a never ending cycle dragging the battle too long. I almost re-recorded it, but then I would have had to start from my last saving point which was the Elite Four 1.
@@SupaBilly It works as a tanking strategy though, so I really appreciate you doing that. I just know that you can use Rest while in sleep, since sleep-inducing move won't affect an already asleep target.
