Shadows are easy. Their core open up incredibly quickly to devil trigger + ebony and Ivory shots (even on Dante must die). Then you just stinger them 3 times while they're vulnerable. Taunt them if you don't have devil trigger, takes way less time than peppering
Phantom is a boss you can potentially fight 6 times, it's insane. 1st being his mandatory encounter. 2nd The hallway chase 3rd The hallway chase in the sewers 4th The fountain room on hard difficulty during the intermission stage 5th his mandatory second encounter and the 6th time in Nightmares Dimension.
That GODDAMN spider-scorpion RESPAWNS in that room even after you killed him for good in-story! Literally f****ing just comes back to life the second you enter that room. I straight up quit DMC1 forever after that bastard -called me dead weight- You Are Dead'd me. NEVER going back. I will gleefully suffer DMC2 over ever dealing with Phantom agai-- _Oh wait._
@@Slyfrik i got stuck on the first encounter for 2 hours, almost quit entirely after the second, and the third was the most annoying thing i had ever sat through
You can really tell the resident evil origins from the first two games, especially with the writing and atmosphere, DMC 1 was a lot like RE1 because you were exploring an old and abandoned island, which is similar to the mansion in RE1. Then in DMC2, you explore and island with a huge urban city area, RE2 and 3 were mainly exploring urban areas
I disagree, as a newcomer to the series, this was slog to go through. I'm not saying it's bad, but the damn fandom saying "one of the best games" or "it still holds up" gave me way to high of expectations for a janky game
Indeed it does! A true masterpiece, I still remember getting this on release in 2001. I never have seen such an action packed game before, blew my mind.
As someone who completed all DMC games to, well, completion... Let me tell ya, getting thought Hell and Hell with all Sranks and a still intact controller was probably easier than fighting Nightmare 3 on DMD Hell, sinking 2 hours into DMC 4's bloody palace, only to get chip damage from that mf dark Dante and having to do that shit all over again was probably more fun than Nightmare 3 Hell x2, having to complete DmC and Vergil's downfall was probably more fun than having to sit through Nightmare 3 on DMD
I remember taking a break of over a week to beat nightmare in dmd. And then i came back and took another week. I dont even know what i did diferent to beat it, i just remember that mundus was a joke after all that.
One thing I loved about this game (despite having to farm Phantom for hours to get enough orbs to level up and make the game less stressful) is the setting. The island you visit has a clear story behind it and the castle has a minimally logical design. They put detail into making sense of things and the ride feels incredibly immersive because of it. You read the history of the Castilians and their peculiar appreciations of the strangeness of the place long before Dante's arrival, the trip to the coliseum, the arrival on the ship and the trip to another reality, the underwater sections (despite being very archaic mechanically) are incredibly immersive, the return to the castle with the darkness upon you, the space-time changes of scenery, it really feels like you're entering the gates of hell. The icing on the cake is the mirror world and hell, two aberrant and horrifying places that contrast dramatically with Mundus' throne room, fully lit and angelic. I don't know, all the other games have impressive environments and much deeper combat but none tried to replicate that sense of place that the first game had, a place that became distorted the further Dante advanced on his way to hell. It's a shame the franchise chose to ignore this. The closest thing we got was the DMC 3 tower, which was remembered for its design and Leviathan flying around it but it still wasn't enough.
Played through the series, loved it. Replayed DMC 5 countless times and still playing it. But something about DMC 1 makes me say it’s probably my favorite in the series
Same so much, man. While I think that DMC3 is objectively, indisputably one of the greatest games of all time, 1 is still my favorite and to this day I still can't really put my finger on why that is.
Oh boy, one of my favourites, The first DMC is certainly pretty bizarre compared to the other games in the series, I think the main reason is because the game didn't really know what it was
Despite edginess, Dante acts that way to challenge the player, He proves being above the enemy, then makes the player take control with some handicaps. That is the most metagame I've seen in 2004
It can be a soul crushingly hard game, but then you remember that you're playing as Dante and immediately steel your resolve. Ninja Gaiden is like this, too. While the game itself is incredibly hard (esp on Master Ninja), Ryu is shown as a once in an epoch warrior who can slay all manner of god like demons with ease in cutscenes so it inspires you to be like that, too. Same with Bayonetta (at least in 1, which is the only one I've played).
When it came out there was nothing like this game, i got goosebumps when the first marionette appeared the music kicked in and i started hack n slashing for the first time. Best gaming experience of all time!

I can beat every single boss without getting touched once in DMC1. I’ve beaten the game at least 50 times (I’m not even exaggerating). Even enemies that people complain about like Shadow and Nightmare. The real hardest boss is Mundus in the air because of how many cheap shots he can make. Pro tip: the dodge roll is completely invulnerable. You are legitimately invincible when you dodge roll (lock on + left or right + jump). Alastor’s air raid, Ifrit’s kick 13 and Inferno are all incredibly OP. Using the grenade launcher refills your DT gauge immensely and so if you know how to move, when to shoot, when to taunt (yes taunting refills DT gauge too) you can basically abuse DT attacks all the time.
I never got to play DMC 1 back in the PS2 days but I remember playing DMC 3 and being blown away by how amazing that game was especially for a PS2 game. Thanks for subscribing!
Just completed my yearly Christmas Eve replay of DMC1. Still so much fun! Funnily enough, I didn’t die once to any of the bosses since I’ve learned how to cheese them pretty well over the years (and Devil Trigger is amazing). Meanwhile, the Frost and Shadow enemies each killed me once 😅
I recently played through dmc without playing any of the sequels and i can say that Nero Angel (just go full agro) and Griffon (use gun) are very easy bosses, the nightmare is also quite easy once you discover you can jump on top of him while his core is out, the phantom is actually a hard boss but only if you're a beginer to the series since they can be easily doged, the shadow is very easy to avoid and just shooting it until it stalemates works (yes i know it's a dmc5 term), now whit mundus were the inverted controls during flight but once down it abismaly easy, now with the sccisor guy... yeah he is a fucking war crime

Man, DMC1 feels like an action game and a horror game combined and the hardest game in the entire series. To anyone thinking DMC3 Is the hardest: You still haven't experienced the torturous, monstrous and nightmarish inferno that is Devil May Cry 1.
You sound like the kind of guy who would still struggle against the bosses on easy mode. Also, you don't have to fight Phantom in the hallway and in the sewer hallway. The same goes for Griffon's first encounter. You can bash an unlit torch and open the door to escape him.
I started DMC1 today and now I mostly play Turn-based rpgs so I'm not very well adept when it comes to action games and as of I'm typing this I'm currently on the 4th mission still and am having trouble completing it because of the boss at the end and I KEEP DYING, this game really won't accept weakness lmfao. dmc1 is as “devil cry evil” as possible without being bad imo
