Jason Williams… never forget just how good he was
for a duke blue devil fan like me that is LEGENDARY and that game laid the foundations ofr a national title winning season
bruh yall got lucky as fuck lmao....... bro we were up 30 at half in the final four and gary williams gacked it away. Be thankful gary was a better coach or we have back to back natl titles...... Loved beating yall during this era. Yall went onto drop them duffle bags off and maryland did things the right way,
@@nicholasbondurantsounds like y'all just found a way to lose.....just like this game.....shoulda woulda coulda
Btw how did this loaded MD team lose 11 times? nvm
lk you are just going to blame the coach.
because college basketball was actually good back then? LMAO today is a joke @@aloominknottyheadtap900
@@nicholasbondurant30 at halftime, what final 4 game was that? Maryland was up 22 around halfway in the 1st half and up 11 at half time.
As a Duke fan, I hate that Maryland left the ACC. This game is a prime example why Maryland had no fear of Duke or UNC and there are so many memorable games.
+Jake Stilley I don't know... after a relatively small window inspired by Gary Williams' recruiting and coaching, Maryland had a lot of down/off years. They were supposed to be legit top 2 team this past season but weren't even close, and that one-season window is now closed. I think the current version of the ACC is much stronger, although Louisville and Cuse sanctions are hurting it, as those are normally some powerhouse teams (syracuse making the final four was a big surprise in a year where there were no great teams, so yeah). The Duke/UNC/Virginia/ND/Louisville/Miami/Syracuse rivalries will carry the conference for a long time.
Maryland fan here and it made me sick when they went to the Big 10. There was nothing I would look forward to every year more than the Md - Duke/UNC games. Then the road trips for football games once or twice a year. Now what? Penn State every other year? Everything else is too far. I miss the ACC big time.
@@burns1210 Either at Cole Field house or Comcast arena in college park Maryland I was really steamed when they moved to the Big ten cause I miss their matchups with Duke or UNC their matchups would be on Raycom-JP or shown on ESPN
My fondest sports memories are big-time Maryland ACC hoops game at Cole! The atmosphere was always incredible!! For a big game Cole was as electric as any arena in the country!!
@@burns1210 from that 99-03 stretch, Duke vs Maryland was the must watch game in the ACC. As a Duke fan, I wish Maryland was still in the ACC!! Maryland was the one team that I wanted to see Duke beat more than anyone, besides UNC
This never gets old! The best rivalry in the ACC at the time.
@kabramble ehhhh from 1999-2004 Duke was 14-2 vs UNC. So I tend to agree, Maryland was, Duke temporary rival...
@kabramble you can look at it anyway you want, but even the Duke players looked forward to the Maryland games over UNC back then. Facts UNC was just not that good. I take it you probably weren't old enough to enjoy those few years from, 1999-2004
@@nowhereman4319 Um no. Maryland was never a rival.
@@christschool mmmm yes they were. I guess you are to young to remember those times. Even the Duke players from then said, the game the most looked forward to was, Maryland.
@@christschool for a short stretch, the Duke/Maryland was the game you couldn't wait to see. So ya, Duke vs Maryland was a rivalry. Oh and it continued until they left the ACC.
Mike Patrick: "I don't think the possession arrow is gonna make much of a difference in the last 1:01". Talk about jinxing Maryland lol.
At one point DUKE vs Maryland was better than DUKE vs UNC.
For about a 5 year window Duke-Maryland was as intense as any college hoops rivalry in the USA.
110%
Drew Nicholas shittin bricks.
we had our hearts ripped out twice that year
+kern39743 I can't remember another time where two teams from the same conference played each other 4 times in a single season. It was a pretty crazy year... but man a lot of NBA talent was on the floor that night. The most promising one turned out to be the most tragic (Jason Williams could have been an NBA star right at the cusp of the PG-dominant era in the NBA). RIding motorcycles is usually banned by pro sports contracts, but apparently he had to ride one anyway. Ruined his playing career.
EdudLufetips "I can't remember the last time conference opponents met four times in a single season."
Uh, you must be one of those people who don't get around much when it comes to college basketball. There's been multiple occasions where conference foes who met at least twice (three times if there is a conference tournament) and then met again in both the men's *AND* women's NCAA Tournament. In fact, there's been two occasions where teams defeated the same conference opponent four times in a single season; Kentucky over Alabama [SEC] in 1985-86 (Beat them in Sweet 16; Ironically, they had a chance to do that twice in the Elite 8 vs LSU, but the Tigers upset them to go to the Final Four), & Cincinnati over Memphis State [Great Midwest] in 1991-92 (Defeated in Elite 8).
It sure did!!!!! This (and Carlos Boozer's injury later in the season) was the key components of their title run that year.
No, he wasn't....He was a floor leader and contributed very well to the team. End of story.
jason williams best game was against maryland at home in 2002.maryland went on a losing streak i think after this game it really affected them, took them a while to get over this.
They hit a depression that was sad to see. They even lost at home to the last place team in the ACC after this game. A few weeks later they broke out of the funk, regained their greatness, and looked like a National Championship Team. Won at Duke and then went all the way to the Final Four. Catapulted them to 2002 National Championship.
Watching the final minute and half, Maryland committed fouls when Williams was driving to the basket and it allowed Duke to score from the free throw line while stopping the clock.
It didn't help that Maryland missed critical free throws and turned the ball over.
You got the fab five vs Norte dame game from 1992
10 POINTS IN 30 SECONDS, INSANE....Duke...any questions
Player of game was spoken to soon!
I was thinking that too, lol. 🤣
one of the most disgusting games as far as refs go
I was at this game and just watched for the first time in years. Baxter and Morris were in foul trouble within the first 6 minutes and Blake fouled out. It took a lot of creativity and imagination to make over half of those calls.
Awesome!!! I had to subscribe!
My favorite is.......... Maryland fans still blaming the refs lol
I was glad to see Maryland leave. Biggest loser fanbase in the NCAA. Whenever they lost a game, it was a conspiracy of refs against the school. Every single time!
Miraculous
I don't have that game.
This is when ACC officiating was at an all-time low.
they cheated. The foul on Blake...completely missed, by WIlliams. They call the foul on the wrong guy.
Cheated? Can't hold a 12 point lead with 1:15 to go is called choking not cheating, but you haters never seem to surprise me with the excuses.
Duke and Maryland have not played each other since they left ACC..I guess Maryland is Scared..😂😅😂
1:41:13 J Will most assuredly steps out of bounds
Hard to tell
Ya even as a Duke fan I would have to agree with you
1:36. Already counting duke out
Nicolas really messed up
non touch fouls..I swear..this game so disgusted me in the calls, non call....you need to TOUCH a player to call a fould...so many no touch fouls called in this game, tio get duke back in the game
LOL Maryland fans throwing trash onto the Duke team/fan area after the game! Stay classy Twerps!!!
*****
Yep. Duke fans got no room to yap on this point
It's not the whole Maryland fan base, it's mostly the student section doing all the trouble.
LuvJoAnnaG we’re still waiting for a reply loser
Again, a charge with 1:20 lwft in OT...these refs were completely Tobacco Road refs.
Oh just shut up, you idiot. He was a very good point guard on that great Maryland team and was a PIVOTAL role in their National Championship the next year. Get away from me, you internet gangster.
man what choke jobs Maryland put up that year against duke. 10 point lead with a minute to go in this game..the acc championship game they had a double digit lead and lost and then in the final four they were up 22! and lost! hahahha
It was actually ACC Semis but for all intensive purposes may as well been the ACC Championship because Duke smoked UNC in the ACC Championship Game.
For all INTENTS AND PURPOSES
Lol for all Intents and purposes that's what I met lol.
duke outscored them them 25-12 after blake fouled out
I agree with a lot of the comments. Wish Maryland never left the ACC.... But I don't miss Gary Williams crying and whining AND sweating.
This was one of the worst officiated games I have ever seen. Maryland completely dominated duke and should have been up by about 20 points with a minute to go. Refs kept duke close all game. Getting revenge down in durham was nice though.
A week late, but I disagree...I think Blake was a very good defender and was essential to their National Championship team the very next season.
absolutely loved this as a Duke fan
Maryland Fan here this was disappointing. But I Miss the rivalry and the way ACC was back then... Wish all could be changed back way it was Team Wise...
this wa such crap and obvious Carolina refs decided who was to win.
all he can think of saying is incredible.or that's incredible.that's that great unc learning there haha.
Icing on the cake that the comeback was completed with a Shane Battier defensive stand
Good god this Duke team was FUCKING STACKED! Every sub that came in I was like “ HE was on this team TOO?!?!” 😳🔥😂 Shit just wasn’t fair man... wow
On the last shot of the video Johnny Dawkins is trying so hard not to laugh before he shakes hands with Gary Williams. Hilarious.
I was at that game. My seat was in the first row facing the center of the court behind the TV broadcasters.
This Team Right here, would be UNDEFEATED RIGHT NOW!!!!
Who was #1 at the time of this game? If I had to guess, probably Stanford or Arizona.
+Chris Kreager It was Stanford. If I remember correctly, Duke lost to Stanford a month or so prior to this game by 1 point in a #1 vs. #3 matchup, and Stanford only lost like 2 or 3 games the entire year, so I'm assuming they were no. 1 at that point in time. Arizona had like 7 or 8 losses through the season and only ended up in the top 2 when they made it all the way to the title game, losing to Duke.
Arizona and Maryland dealt with tragedy and depression that whole season which caused both to go through bad play a good portion of the season. By the end of the regular season they both regained themselves and looked very scary like Maryland or Arizona would win it all.
Who's here after Duke's win vs UCF lol
Brad Daugherty face going into overtime says it all!!!! Duke All Day
That timing call at the conclusion of the first half was probably due to a clock error or something. You're welcome, man and I will most definitely keep them coming.
Ummmm...no he wasn't...At least he has a better basketball career than you do. How many National Champions do you have? Oh wait...You don't and you're irrelevant.
Thanks for posting these games my guy, you’re a goat 💙😈
Going to duke apparently = fountain of youth. Jason Williams and Shane Battier look exactly the same 15+ years later...
@ benny robinson. Yes because you say he is must mean he was terrible (rolls eyes). Also very classy going with name calling. Just to give you a tip if you want to get in name calling wars on the internet then find someone else to do that with. Bye Bye now.
EXACTLY!!!!! Took the words right out of my mouth. Don't worry, I blocked his ass.
lot of ebbs and flows in this.......nice to see it uploaded in full. What an ending too with the block in the final seconds to seal the win, a fitting way to close it.
Sidenote what was with that timing call at the end of the 1st half? 1.4 seconds? They deserved half that at most! There was quite a few bad calls favoring Duke around that point in the game seemingly trying to keep them close, but that was the worst I think.
Thanks for the game dude, keep em coming!
Better Point Guard than you will ever be! Better player as well. National Championship and long NBA career. Maryland wins this game if Blake doesn't foul out hence he was an excellent college player.
Where is the collison duhon has where he hits the floor??
That was in the FINAL FOUR game against Maryland later in that yr.
this game was absolutely insane. jay williams was cold blooded that season. definition why having a great pg is important to winning championships.
This game happened right after my 18th birthday. As a Duke fan it was a amazing gift
Thanks man!!!! I appreciate it!!!!
And Steve Blake over there pouting!! 😂😂 I love it!! The game that made Maryland leave the ACC
yeah... next year they were NCAA Champs idiot
@@BigPoppaPump69 what have they done since?!?! Maryland was the team to go up the biggest choke job in final 4 history lol..
@@nowhereman4319 Well, they were BIG 10 champs last year so...
