Yeah, tried this on Roulette when I was 21. Was chugging right along until red came up 6 times in a row and suddenly betting $320 to win $5 seemed like the dumbest idea I ever had. So I lost the $95 I was up, another $65 and learned a valuable lesson.
im at the point where winning is a relief and not celebration...but ive lost enough locks that i know bankroll management is the most important whether on a great run or the worst one
If your betting -250 games in mlb to win $100 your chances of losing 6 games in a row is 1 and 800 ish and in 162 games this system should only lose once every 5ish years. One year i bet the nats all year. I started my martingale with max scherzer starts and went thru the whole rotation and back to max. it didn't lose all year. it was max, strausburg, corbin, sanchez, fedde, max. Starting the martingale with max and ending with max it didn't lose. Just my case study.
Martingale for sports betting should work a bit better than on table games for various reasons since we're working with singular real world outcomes that we can potentially attempt to predict and not just subject to pure randomness/RNG, you are right that our losing streak should be less, however having to consistently find a 2.00 odds payout means you'll still be at risk unless you are multiplying your stake even higher to cover if betting on a favorite at 1.50 to 1 70 (something that could be quite interesting but potentially get out of control)
I don't think this works for most people. Why bet 100? When you can bet 25 on odds 4.0+. If you lose you have 4 chances to win 1/4 and get 100 back. I always play accumulated 2-4 games odds 4-20+ lower stakes
Betting less at longer odds doesn't change the probability or even make it any less risky. You're betting 1/4 at 4x longer odds. The end result will be the same if you Martingale starting smaller at longer odds.
Problem with Martingale is people don't know when to quit. Like you said, if you flipped that coin 1,000 times and it only went over 12 times, that leaves 928 other flips you could have made money on. If the highest is was 11 and that happened once then you have plenty more chances. Take Roulette, I wait for 4-5 in a row of one 50/50 event (high/low/red/black) and bet the opposite for 6 spins - do I understand that a streak of 11-12 can happen, sure, but the chances are lower than if I started at the start. Same with Baccarat, wait for two in a row then bet the opposite hoping it doesn't go 8.
What you're describing here is known as Gamblers Fallacy. It's the belief that just because some random event happened immediately before makes it more/less likely to happen immediately again. In reality, the probability hasn't changed. The roulette ball doesn't remember it just landed red 5 times and needs to balance out the universe - no more than it purposely sought out red each time before right now.
@@Unabated yeah I agree and understand that but what I'm taking advantage of is 'strings' in the theoretical RTP. Any 50/50 event happening 10 times in a row is roughly a 1% chance. The roulette ball spins thousands of times a day so whilst 1% is low, it's actually a few times you'll see it happen, maybe once or twice an hour. Same with Baccarat, I've known the game for awhile and studied every shoe I've played from start to end and found that 6 hands in a row happens, so does 10. However the probability of it happening twice or three times in one shoe, I've never seen.....yet.
@@SamSam-df8qd There are no "strings" to take advantage of. Just because something happened doesn't make it any less probable to happen again. Even if that event was 0.1% to happen (which is what ten 50/50 results would be), it's still the same probability to happen again. If it should happen 9 straight times, the probability it'll hit for the 10th straight time is still 50/50. Look at this way, you weren't able to predict when it would happen the first time, how can you predict when it won't happen the next time?
Sports betting using martingale does not work as the odd for each matches for a team At home is diff so you will need bet diff from Double amount and usually if odds below 2 mean the house already make from the diff of odd of 2
I understand this doesn't work on something like a coin flip, since every flip is independent from the other. But if you talk about sports teams, these losing streaks do have affect on the next game. A team will probably be more motivated after their 3rd loss in a row infront of their fans.
I don't mind the occasion martingale if it's an outcome that's likely to happen say in the next few games.. no team in the nfl - and I'm pretty sure this goes for any sport - has ever lost every game ATS.. so once the wins rack up I'll bet the bad team to cover

Two sports i thought Martingale would work on is an evenly matched last set in darts where one player must break the throw of their opponent to win the set, and in tennis, also where breaking an opponent's serve will pay over +100. Particularly for women's tennis where breaking serve is more common. I don't have the resources (or inclination to watch darts or tennis) to try but all the best to anyone who's game

Even 50% coin flips always lose. In the video, 11x streak of heads in just 1000 tries. To beat this, starting with a 10$ bet, you'd need a bankroll of 20480$. Oh boy betting 20k$ to win 10$ mustn't feel good. Now make this a sport's bet with 10% vig. You bet 11$, to win 10, to beat a 11x loss streak you'd have to bet 38530$.

And that's assuming you're getting +100 odds
