The Mysterious Gorge-Tête-Noire

Shortly after the Valais village of Trient, on the road to Chamonix, a loop will take you to the mysterious gorges of Tête-Noire. Created in 1884, the path leads down into the forest via steep stone steps. 120 meters of walkways and bridges take you to the bottom of the gorge. Once you’ve arrived, you’ll encounter the first of the gorge’s secrets: a series of idyllic waterfalls cascading down a flat rocky outcrop. Then another set of steps - invisible at first glance - lead to the second secret: the Grotte aux Nymphes, or fairy grotto, an authentic natural cathedral hidden under gigantic slabs of rock that lean one against the other. This is a natural phenomenon of enormous beauty.
