    Reasons why I play MD and not TCG.
    1. Money, I enjoy being able to play pretty much any deck I want.
    2. The automated system makes everything easier and makes cheating almost imposible.
    3. I'm too antisocial for tournaments and or simulators that require more human interaction.
    4. I do like the difference in format quite a lot.
    5. Being able to play whenever I want. I could wake up in the middle of the night, say "Oh boy, 3am, time for some Yugioh!" and be playing in less than two minutes.

    At least for me. #2 is the main reason I don’t play TCG, it’s beyond cheaper to build a deck on MD.
    If I wanna make a Labyrnth deck for example with actual staples, I’m probably spending $400+

      And that's for one deck only...Try to build a kashtira, branded, tearlaments and spright, all of them meta in the last year..and its beyond anyone's possibilities (unless you live in a place with a huge market like the USA, but even then, its still beyond what anyone but a grown man can afford)

    It's nice playing in MD when I know that the effects of cards will only activate or play out as intended by the game and not my interpretation. It's nice not having to second guess or debate conditions, only try to consider them before you actually make a play. Also nice being largely able to test card interactions in Solo Mode. Hopefully the gap in cards available in MD shortens.

    I think price is the biggest factor. Konami should have cheap copies of all cards, and also high rarity copies that are collectable and shiny. There will always be people who want their preferred deck in the highest rarity they can get, and the price will still be accessible to all for the common rarity versions.

    I think I'm on the same page as you regarding literally everything you mentioned here. The main reason why I love MD so much is that it actually enables me to play YuGiOh. I've never been able to attend any local event, I'm not even sure there are more than maybe 2 or 3 places that host events like that in my half of the country.

    The problem about some other content creators, and to an extent I can even include Hex here, is that there is a bias, and not one that it's only about them. Anyone on Twitter, Reddit or Discord can be considered an enfranchised player, someone more interested and invested than most in the game. And from some other TCGs discussion, this can be like the 10% or 5% of the population at most.
    Hex very likely hits a truer point when talking about the economic hurdles of playing the game. Honestly, the thing about format doesn't hold. MtG has not just "formats" as labeled in YGO, but different ways to play. MtG players aren't exactly coming to a shop and saying, oh, this isn't Alchemy/Historic from Arena (formats that have only-digital cards, making it the most wild example) but rather checking then how much it costs to play certain things. It can be expensive, but also some EDH and even Burn decks are fine.
    Speaking of getting into a shop, there's the complexity mentioned. MtG navigates better through paradigms than YGO. YGO you gotta know what you are doing, including the convo about missing triggers, but also choke points and match ups. There is also a more punishing, smaller window to do things. In MtG if you screw up a turn, sometimes you are okay. But when so many game actions have to be condensed and perfectly played in a turn or 2, it makes new casual players feel worse when they fail.
    But you know what, all in all, this is something people should go to the stored or speak to only-MD players and review their answers, though I'm afraid if this is made on Twitter, you will still be catching more enfranchised players than what you may think. I think a Twitter poll would need to explicitly ask for only people who play 1 time or 2 a day, but trust me, that they are on Twitter is very different from random kid of 13 or 15yo who is about to try MD and see if they like it.
    A first attempt could be: Ask only for casual and define casual (less than 1 hour daily prob), people who have played for some months now, and people who have not tried paper yet. Then ask them why have they not even tried playing in paper. For me, it's not the complexity, but the money and simply how easy it is to boot up MD for a game I don't see as my primary source of entertainment.

  • @twi058

    The biggest difference on why I play Master Duel more then on Paper is because I don't have any friends that live nearby me anymore and they were afraid of the prices, I have one YGO Deck in case someone wants to duel me. And when I told them about Master Duel being Free, they immediately jumped on it.

  • @grantbailey4205
    @grantbailey4205 Год назад +6

    Also a huge factor in favor of Master Duel as opposed to the TCG that I don't often see discussed is because of the way it makes money and its environment; decks are very easy to switch out/get a return on your investment when decks become worse and cards get banned. This makes Archetypes/decks just more resilient in MD unlike in the TCG which compounds the TCG's cost problem. Take for example: Lets say your the biggest Tearlament Fan in the world you love Tear and everything about it. The Tear 0 meta was your heaven. If you invested the tons of money need to get a Tear deck in the TCG you would be hurting as that entire archetype was gutted all that money and/or time taken to make your deck is just in the garbage and recouping your losses is nearly impossible. While on MD first Konami is a lot less likely to gut archetypes so your investment (what relatively little there is compared to TCG) is a solid one. Second even if they did you can basically get a full refund on banned cards allowing you to get a lot more value out of your loss.

I come from playing MTG and one of the most kind and welcoming communities. Yugioh players are not only bad and rude, they're terrible to the new players and just made me feel bad even for my deck choice. I will never touch another Yu GI oh cardboard card. This is the truly best take and the reason I'm also playing MD instead of wanting to play TCG its way too expensive for me to afford in the country I live. Therefore MD made my life easier to play Yugioh and also have fun without spending a single cent even on the game also the game is less grindier and less pay to win than Duel Links where you need to spend money on the selection boxes for the strongest cards or else you need to wait for 6 months or a year to get them on a box but the format is fun though to play.

    Prices and convenience are definitely two things that factor into why I don’t and won’t play TCG. I don’t care to search for each individual card and play more for them than I do on MD. I also don’t care go through finding others to play against either.
    I will admit that another reason I won’t play TCG is because of what Hex said. That being keep track of ever condition and potential play. I’m seasoned enough to keep track of most game states, but something always slips my mind and that’s why I like MD to keep track of those things for me. I have no shame in that. I also, don’t like having to leave any potential rule up to anyone’s interpretation. MD settles that!
    The biggest reason why I prefer MD is simply because it brings the game to life! The music, presentation, and animations make it feel larger than life which makes a duel more exciting. IRL dueling is much more mundane/boring in my opinion.

    I returned to YGO when MD first came out an i looked into getting a real physical deck but that idea quickly got shot down when i looked at the prices of competitive decks, on top of that i would have to travel for any locals to play plus the issue of other people not taking care of their BO was another mounting issue. all that combined MD is just easy accessibility i can play it on my phone, tablet, computer, an console if i want an dont have to deal with other people and dont have to spend money buying a deck or traveling to go somewhere.

  • @Takanuvaa
    @Takanuvaa Год назад

    For me the main problem, apart from the prices of course, is the accessibility. Where I live there is only 1 local that hosts yugioh tournaments (and still, there is only 1 day that they host yugioh while magic and flesh and blood occupy all the other days), even buying cheap cards is hard cuz where i live (it's like, the capital of Brazil) apparently there are very few people who play yugioh (either that or they simply hide and don't interact on any yugioh related groups in social media), even buying from the rest of the country is difficult because of the shipping, I refuse to pay the price of 1 (decent) card to have just 3 or 6 cards delivered to my house.
    I got into yugioh online simulators a long time ago and was always interested in playing it in paper, what made me head into buying yugioh products was master duel (and because i started to earn some money at uni).
    I think you managed to say the main points of it, most people don't care about the current format being late/repetitive or anything like that, the biggest problem is needing to dedicate the little free time (and money) we have between studies, work and other hobbies just to play fewer games and with fewer options of cards and decks.

  • @MarioLopez-xs3vc
    @MarioLopez-xs3vc Год назад +1

    I already discussed on the highlighted video that price is my main issue. If we had OCG level pricing I might be interested in meta decks in the TCG. I also don't like that there aren't always lower rarity versions of important cards, since that means you're forced to play with collectible cards, risking getting them damaged or stolen.
    The card differences are interesting, while for the most part this game is in an older format, there are times where certain cards come out in MD right when or before they come out in the TCG, and TCG exclusives at times come out in it before they're even added to the OCG. The different banlist on top of that keeps it an interesting format, though also tricky to translate to the other two. Could they add in rulesets for TCG and OCG Formats as well? Sure, but I don't feel that it's necessary at this time(I'm honestly more interested in their exclusive cards than their rulesets).
    The other main thing holding me back from wanting to play on paper(or "manual sims" like Dueling Book) is having to "babysit" my opponent to make sure they aren't doing things that shouldn't be, intentional or otherwise. And in a high stakes game it's also easy to slip up yourself on something and get sharked, costing a game that I might otherwise have a chance in. I've been meaning to try out YGO Omega to try out new TCG and OCG cards, but the interest in setting it up hasn't been there. Stuff like the Solo Modes, random missions and Duel Live end up motivate me to boot up MD daily even if I don' t spend a whole lot of time on it most days.

    I've already made the comment in the MBT video, but the release schedule in MD is good for the health of the game. It makes the formats similar, but diffrent. A lot of cards came out in TCG and OCG already power crept and irrelevant. In MD, it lets some decks shine for a while, they won't be T1 or T0, but they'll have a moment under the sun with people playing them and winning without being immediately blown out by cards released in the same set. Gothi was playable, the wierd ishizu piles, Runick pre spright, the assault synchron stuff.
    A deck like mathmech was fringe and rogue in TCG, but was T1 at some point in MD and it translated to IRL play and not the other way around.
    Imagine if we had fenrir/tear kash in MD, it would invalidate so many decks and strategies.

    This is just a thought I had when I started playing the pokemon tcg live. Why doesn't yu gi oh have codes for players to use when they buy a pack from a retail store?
    In the pokemon tgc, when you purchase booster packs and boxes you get a code to obtain booster packs in game as well as any accessories that came with them. You don't need to buy things irl to have playable decks in game, so these are really just a nice bonus.
    I don't think this would ever happen, since the game's economy isn't built around it, but it would be a cool incentive to spend money buying cards for players who were introduced to the game through master duel.
    I find it difficult to want to get into the game becasue of how expensive the cards are, but I'd think having an incentive to start building a collection could help just a little tiny bit

    The only single thing I will admit is yes the card game is expensive but that's mainly how Konami makes money to stay alive over 2 decades and what Yu-Gi-Oh is most iconic for and the variety is much larger in paper cards.
    Same with MTG, Weiss Schwartz or Cardfight Vanguard, nothing beats a in person game like cards or board games or games like Minecraft or console games with friends imo.
    No hours, days/weeks/months or a year or more of grinding gameplay TCG all have more freedom than competitive Master Duel, MGT Arena, TFT and League Of Legends, Fortnite, and in a interaction TCG card game you can tell exactly what's going on in a duel it's so much easier to understand the effects and situation you're in and read in person.
    Plus the cards are works of art in person way cooler, and honestly you would be surprised how much money people waste on unhealthy junk food and drinks, cigarettes or drugs, gambling/lottery tickets, bad or greedy people that took advantage of you, all in less than a year over a once in a lifetime investment like TCG paper cards.
    The only good easy come easy go things that cost money that are worth it to me are great restaurants, Comic Con and card tournaments, movie theaters/concerts, amusement parks/carnivals/arcades, fireworks, all with family or friends or even by yourself.

    Pokemon is like dirt cheap to play. I think the BEST deck averages around $150

    "decks become cheaper once you get the staples" is a lie because of them rarity bumping things to ultra and secret so even rouge decks cost a lot of money due to main boss monster/key pieces being high rarity. plus this logic means putting all your decks in the same sleeves so you can transfer your staples from deck to deck which will also cost a lot depending on the sleeves you use. rarity collection should fix this as long as it stays how the set was in the ocg

    Yu-Gi-Oh is way too unbalanced of a card game and the cards are way too expensive for me to even think of playing the TCG anymore. I'd rather use that money on Steam or GOG.
    Or food. Food is good.
    Mills happen instantly. Card effects don't need to be explained by a person. Solitaire is awful in MD, it's worse in the TCG. And BO3. No thanks.
